1 May 6, th Sunday of Easter GOD'S PEOPLE PREPARE FOR THE WORD As we gather, some of our number have found it helpful to begin worship with a time of group singing and praise a few moments prior to worship each week. If you choose not to participate in the singing and would prefer to visit or make personal connections at this time, please use the Assembly Room for these purposes. We hope that this extended time brings an opportunity to embrace the Lord in worship. Gathering Music: (see screen) Indescribable Words of Welcome and Announcements Our Friendship in Christ *Call to Worship: (Responsive) Again, today we come together to worship. This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. We worship the God of creation, of salvation, of time and eternity; the God of all peoples, of all nations, of all conditions of people everywhere. Praise the Lord. All that is within me, praise God s holy name. Praise the Lord and remember all his kindnesses: in forgiving our sins; in curing our diseases; in saving us from destruction; in surrounding us with love. The Lord is full of mercy and compassion. The Lord is slow to anger and willing to give us gifts of love. Praise the Lord! Oh, all that is within me, praise the Lord. based on Psalm 103:1-8; 118:24 *Hymn of Praise: (see screen) Cornerstone The Prayer of Confession: (Responsive) Merciful God, for the things we have done that we regret, For the things we have failed to do that we regret, For all the times we have acted without love, For all the times we have reacted without thought, For all the times we have withdrawn care, For all the times we have failed to forgive, (a time of silent prayer and confession) For hurtful words said and helpful words unsaid, for unfinished tasks and unfulfilled hopes, 1
2 God of all time, forgive us and help us to lay down our burden of regret. Amen. The Assurance of Pardon: (Responsive) God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our sin, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved! He raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 4 ANNOUNCEMENTS Printed copies of previous sermons are available on the shelves in the back of the sanctuary and on the web at: Each worship service is also recorded on audio CD. In addition to being on the church website, all of Pastor Dave s sermons are posted on his blog at 1. The Open Door is incredibly grateful to the many people who are representing us this weekend at the Kids of Steel race and the Pittsburgh Marathon. A whopping 42 people, including 14 youth, have worked together as volunteers, participants, and sometimes, both! We are thankful for the even larger circle of people who have supported The Open Door with their financial gifts--our participants were able to raise nearly $6000 so far through this weekend of events. Half of the money that we receive will be put toward Cross Trainers and the other half will be put toward making improvements to our building. Thank you!!! 2. The International Partnership Team of Pittsburgh Presbytery will meet tomorrow, Amy 7, to begin making plans to receive African missionaries in October If you would like to know more about how to participate in this journey, please join us at the Presbytery Center for a 7 pm meeting. Check with Pastor Dave if you d like to carpool. 3. Spring Cleaning. We need a few groups of people to help freshen up the inside and outside of our buildings. May 9 from 1-4 pm and May 19 from 8:30-12:30. Volunteers are needed to touch up paint, throw away junk, clean the kitchen, organize the storerooms and spread mulch. You can make a difference! Dani and Cheri will be looking for your help! 4. Putt for Preschool! Please join us on Sunday, May 20 from 2-5 pm at Scally s in Moon Township. Tickets are $10 in advance or $13 at the door and include mini golf and a buffet lunch. A family of four is only $35. Proceeds benefit the Crafton Heights Community Preschool. Please see Cheri Mack or Linda Piper for tickets. 4
