1 February January 18, 16, DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. Tomorrow is the birthday observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I know that there is still hostility directed at him in our day and time, but the truth is that there were some terrible and despicable things done to African Americans, particularly in the South, that Martin Luther King helped to shine the light of justice and truth on. The older I get the more I admire the way Dr. King faced these demons of racism with non-violence and perseverance. Many of his own race turned against him and his way of non-violent, peaceful resistance in favor of violence and retaliation. Who cannot resonate with and affirm the powerful image in his famous I Have a Dream speech given in August of 1963, when he said, I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Join me in praying that we as followers of Jesus Christ will help bring about peace, harmony, and respect between all the races of people who make up our community. Jim THE CHURCH STAFF Rev. James W.
