2 Pastor s Page June is just Bustin' Out All Over as the old song goes. We have the annual conference at Lakeside, where the business of the church gets done and we learn what is new around the conference. This is held June 4-7 with the theme Do Not Be Afraid, Facing the Future. Vacation Bible School (VBS) is next in fellowship with Zion Lutheran Church and Esperanza Viva. This year s theme is Hero Central running June The past two years of joint VBS has allowed Bible learning to our young folks and the added cross-cultural learning we and our children need to better understand each other. The Unity picnic on the 17th is a time of fun and music for the whole family. This will be our sixth year of joining in the fun atmosphere the picnic creates. Things are happening at First. Tell your friends and neighbors about the good things we are able to experience and learn. While you are at it, tell a stranger about what your church is doing in the community and with each other. See you Sunday. God Bless Pastor Mark Join us for a great time of fellowship and food. Please RSVP by Wednesday prior to the lunch to Ruth Stanton at , if you plan to attend. The schedule for the rest of 2017 is as follows (3rd Thursday at noon): June Spinning Fork September Olive Garden December Perkins July Walt s BBQ October Golden Corral August Richard s Pizza on Nilles November Houston Inn Thank You! Naomi Circle extends sincere gratitude to those who went above and beyond in assisting with our district's mission presentation May 11th. Kay, Vicki, and Karen--women of the Lord! And thanks to those who attended and donated to mission provisions and needs. We are a church family interested and engaged in the welfare of our local and global neighbors! Thank you all for your prayers, cards, visits, weeding, and support through phone calls and text during John's illness. He is improving daily and we hope will be home soon from the rehab center. 5 Successful Family Promise Host Week We hosted 4 families, a total of 11 people, from Family Promise the week of May 21-28th. The ages of the children ranged from 10 months to 18 years! The young mother with the 10 month old and 2 year old appreciated staying in the nursery with the attached play room. The portable air conditioners that our trustees found and installed worked great and provided comfortable sleeping on the third floor. One family, a mother and her 16 year old daughter, had stayed with us the last time we hosted and they were able to move out into their own housing part way through the week. Praise God! A huge thanks to all our volunteers from First UMC, Cornerstone, Bethany and First Baptist. Whether you donated supplies, made beds, stayed overnight, cooked dinner, played games, did laundry, carried mattresses, or kept us in prayer - you made it possible for us to provide safe, welcoming housing and share God's love. Family Promise Club 180 For the month of June the congregations of the Family Promise of Butler County network are taking part in a Club180 challenge. Homeless Facts: It is estimated that 40% of the homeless are families. 60% of the above total are children. 50% of the children are 5 and under. There are projected 775 homeless students served by the Butler County School system in For every $180 contributed, a family of four is able to receive four days of shelter and support services through Family Promise of Butler County. A safe place to sleep Good nutritious meals Transportation Intensive Case Management To become a Club180 Member, pick up a Club180 card at church on the bulletin board, or contact Teri Trent at or Lakme Kodros at or Jennifer Withrow at Any gift amount is welcome and please keep this ministry in your prayers. On June 29th, the 180th day of the year, the winning congregation will be announced. Bakers Needed! The Saturday community lunch has been fortunate in the past to get most of our desserts donated by Kroger. However, recently those donations are down and we are in need of desserts. If you would be able to help provide dessert items, please contact Dee Harper at Volume 11, Issue 6 Page 5
