In place of their Presidents Message, I asked Zelda and Nadine if I could have the opportunity to address you all. As you opened the attachent to this eail you ay have noticed the title of this Bulletin: Swan Song. Yes, after 7 years I a retiring fro the role of Editor and disseinator of flyers, notices and reinders. It has been both a joy and a privilege to send these out to you. For e it was not only a creative outlet, but also a chance to get to know any of you via nuerous eails. I enjoyed y tie doing this, but now it s tie to ove on to other adventures. I a very happy to announce that Suze Weinberg will be taking over y job. Suze has enorous talent, tons of creativity and her Bulletins and flyers are sure to dazzle you. She has big plans for bringing our chapter into the digital age! Beginning July 1 please be sure to open any eails that coe fro her (Suze.weinberg@aol.co). 2 MISSION STATEMENT Brandeis National Coittee is dedicated to providing philanthropic support to Brandeis University, a distinguished liberal arts and research university founded by the Aerican Jewish Counity. Its ebership is connected to the University through fund raising and through activities that reflect he values on which the University was founded: acadeic excellence, social justice, non-sectarianis and service to the counity. Brandeis, Supree Court Justice, and yet we support his naesake, Brandeis University. We have invited Steven Schuh and John McNicholas, two historians, to reveal the life and ties of Louis D. Brandeis in a ost unique and entertaining way. You don t want to iss the presentation.

7 #5 FORGIVENESS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 Contact: Joan Davis Facilitator: Lawrence Herstik Tie: 10:30a - 12 Noon Mebers: 40 Cost: $7 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) The Sunflower by Sion Wiesenthal is the story of a Nazi hunter that focuses on his experiences in a cap. A dying Nazi soldier asks for forgiveness. Sion asks us to respond to the request as if we were in his shoes and asks What would you have done? Soe feel that forgiveness is one of the ajor lessons to apply in our lives. There will be a read aloud for 10 inutes and afterwards there will be a full open-ended discussion. Larry Herstik was an educator for 40 years in NYC: teacher, principal and supervisor. He loves teaching and one of the ais of this session will be to explore our own forgiveness levels. #6 DOCUMENTARY FILM: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 WHITE HELMETS Facilitator: Arlene Goldan Linda Lafer Tie: 10:00a -12 Noon Mebers: 40 Cost: $7 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) As daily airstrikes pound civilian targets in Syria, a group of indoitable first responders risk their lives to rescue victis fro the rubble. We will discuss foratting, file anageent (saving and opening files), table creation and (try to) answer questions that you ay have. Lots of us have ipads and are using Pages. I have it, I use it, but I don t know very uch about it. #8 REFLEXOLOGY MONDAY, OCTOBER 16 Contact: Lynn Schneideran Facilitator: Shelly Botwinick Tie: 11:00a 12:30p Mebers: 25 Cost: $15 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) Shelly Botwinick, a certified reflexologist, will give a power point presentation covering the feet, hand and ear reflexology points and how they correspond to other parts of our body. During the presentation, we will have the opportunity to practice pressure points and other self-care techniques on ourselves for stress anageent and general well-being. Be sure to dress cofortably and wear shoes that are easy to reove. #9 THE ETHICIST MONDAY, OCTOBER 30 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 Facilitator: Linda Lafer Tie: 10:00a -12 Noon Mebers: 30 Cost: $9 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) Looking for ebers who enjoy a lively discussion with a little huor ixed in. This group uses the New York Ties colun The Ethicist to launch the discussion. This session will have different topics. Please note that the first session is on a Monday and the second is on a Wednesday. #10 EXCEL BASICS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2 Contact: Joan Davis Facilitator: Gary Moliver Tie: 10:30a -12 Noon Mebers: 30 Cost: $7 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) Excel is part of the Microsoft Office Suite for the coputer. This will be an introductory class on the basic level. Excel is a progra that allows you to anipulate nubers and ask the question, What if?. It allows for the logical arrangeent of nubers along with text, be it a list of people s birthdays, household budgets, tax calculations, stock recording and analysis or a host of other scenarios. #11 FILM: FRIDA KAHLO WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8 Facilitator: Joan Davis Tie: 1:30p - 3:30p Mebers: 40 Cost: $7 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) Frida was a Mexican painter who ostly painted self-portraits. She eployed a naive folk style that explored questions of identity, gender, class and race in Mexican society. Frida and Diego Rivera are portrayed by Sala Hayek and Alfred Molina in this true story of their tuultuous lives. They becae the ost acclaied artists in Mexican history and whose strange love affair, landark journeys to Aerica and outrageous personalities ade the legendary.

9 #12 FILM: HAVEN THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9 Contact: Joan Davis Facilitator: Lenny Weinberg Tie: 1:30p - 3:30p Mebers: 40 Cost: $7 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) HAVEN is a story about 980 Jewish and Non-Jewish refugees that were brought to Oswego, New York to escape the concentration caps. They were allowed to be brought into this country by President Roosevelt and then by President Truan. This ovie depicts their voyage to the U.S. and their life in the encapent at Fort Ontario in Oswego. There is a follow-up book: Token Refuge that continues the story of each refugee after Haven. #13 DOCUMENTARY FILM: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16 THE POWDER AND THE GLORY (AND DESSERT TOO!) Enjoy the fascinating story of the lives of Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubenstein fro their huble beginnings to their product developent, advertising and arketing skills, and their 50-year copetition. These two woen were two of the first feale entrepreneurs to break the glass ceiling. Their copeting copanies defined the $100 billion global cosetic industry and how we look today. #14 FILM: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30 BIRTH OF A NATION / D.W. Griffith, in 1915, directed an epic 3.25 hour, black and white, subtitled fil Birth of a Nation. It is a raw and thought-provoking expose of a sad episode in Aerican history: the Civil War, reconstruction and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. Please bring lunch with you. We will break half-way through the fil to eat and then resue watching the second half.

View local wildlife including turtles, egrets, herons, ospreys and aybe a bald eagle. Please dress for the weather. Since we will be in an open boat you ay want to bring sunglasses, sun screen, a hat and cofortable shoes. Life jackets will be provided. Don t i ss the bo at! Please be on tie for a 3:50 departure. After the boat ride, join us for an optional picnic dinner in the park. Bring the food, drinks and picnic supplies. Car pools can be arranged. #16 NORTHLANDZ TRAIN MUSEUM MONDAY, AUGUST 28 Facilitator: Joan Davis Tie: 11:00a Place: 495 US 202, Fleington, NJ Mebers: 50 Fee: $17.50 (portion of fee that is donation: $5) Northlandz is a 16 acre coplex that has up to 100 trains traveling ore than 8 iles of track. The coplex has 40 foot bridges, cities and villages with thousands of buildings. Also on display are 200+

11 dolls and a 94 roo dollhouse. After the useu (self-guided) tour, you can ride on the outside train for an extra $2.75. Bring your grandchildren to see this fantastic useu. We will get to saple an array of teas which will be personally brewed to your selection. Tea is served in individual teapots covered with decorative tea cozies as well as the beautiful china for delectable tea sandwiches and for desserts that will be served. Optional: Dress-up in hats indicative to a High Tea as we witnessed in the popular TV show Downton Abbey. Hats are also available in the Tea Shoppe for those so inclined to wear one. 13 The Roebling Museu, built in 1907, houses five galleries which include objects fro the original steel ill, village eorabilia and Roebling faily ites. Tour the useu and, if weather perits, join a local docent for a walking tour of the historic copany Village of Roebling for an additional $5. (Payable in cash at the tie of the tour). Place a check ark next to the study groups you wish to attend. 4. Write a separate check for each study group. For exaple, if you chose to attend 3 study groups, you should have 3 checks! 5. On the front of the check write the nae and nuber of the study group on the eo line. 7. Be sure that you filled in your nae, eail and phone/cell phone on the botto of the registration sheet. 8. 19 REFUND POLICY: When a eber cancels, there will be NO refund. The eber can offer/sell her place to another eber if applicable. When the chapter cancels the progra, onies will be refunded to all ebers registered for that progra. As Always: If a Study Group is oversubscribed, a lottery for that group will be held.
