Life and being are of 1 103: Isaiah 44:2 4 Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: 4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. 3 Psalms 27:1 2 nd the Lord (to 2 nd ;) the Lord is the strength of my life; Often in the poetry and prophecies of the Old Testament, like in this verse from Isaiah, Jacob and Israel are used to refer to the Israelites as a whole, not just the man Jacob, their ancestor. Both names are used for the person and the people :11 12 God is infinite, the only Life, substance, Spirit, or 12 Soul, the only intelligence of the universe, including man. 3 2:8 11, 26 Shall God is not moved by the breath of praise to do more 9 than He has already done, nor can the infinite do less than bestow all good, since He is unchanging wisdom and Love. God s standard 4 487:27 27 The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality :8 Renewed selfhood Let us re- 9 joice that we are subject to the divine powers that be. Such is the true Science of being. Any other theory of Life, or God, is delusive and mythological. I will pour out water on the thirsty land. I will make streams flow on the dry ground. How can you apply that same sense of dominion to each of your daily activities? As a deer gets thirsty for streams of water, I truly am thirsty for you, my God. Gladness to leave the false landmarks 3 and joy to see them disappear, this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. Blessed are the 6 pure in heart: for they shall see God :4 The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; 6 and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere :21 21 All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality infinite Life, Truth, and Love. How is the action of Truth, Life, and Love related to the baptism of Spirit? The same way God nurtured Naaman s spiritual growth, he s nurturing ours. deliverance: freedom valour: (valor) courage, especially that shown in battle varied: various; diverse; different Life 4

Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 25 I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. 12 Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 6 with crumbs of comfort from Christ s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty. Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and 3 bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters : :14 18, Millions of unprejudiced minds simple seekers for 15 Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ s name, 18 and never fear the consequences. Those ready for the blessing 24 you impart will give thanks. Crumbs of comfort Receptive hearts :10 In Colossians (iii. 4) Paul writes: When Christ, who is our life, shall appear [be manifested], then shall ye also 12 appear [be manifested] with him in glory. Indestructible being When spiritual being is understood in all its perfection, continuity, and might, then shall man be found 15 in God s image. The absolute meaning of the apostolic words is this: Then shall man be found, in His likeness, perfect as the Father, indestructible in Life, hid with 18 Christ in God, with Truth in divine Love, where human sense hath not seen man. Think about Love being impartial and universal. How can your interactions be more in line with divine Love? The site that is thought to be Jacob s well is in a crypt of a Greek Orthodox church in Nablus, West Bank, Israel. For centuries, Jewish, Christian, Samaritan, and Muslim traditions have all agreed on its location. impartial: unbiased; just; fair adaptation: act of adapting or fitting; state of being adapted, fitted, or suitable bestowals: gifts apostolic: having to do with one or more of the apostles Life 5

6 5 13 Luke 8:41 there, 42, t :30 here came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: 42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a-dying. But as he went the people thronged him. 49 While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. 50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. 51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. 52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. 55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. 14 James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 15 Matthew 18:14 it it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. 16 John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. What is the perfect model? How is it present in your thoughts right now? 30 Sickness, sin, and death are not the fruits of Life. They are inharmonies which Truth destroys. Perfection does not animate imperfection. Inasmuch as God is 1 good and the fount of all being, He does not produce moral or physical deformity; therefore such deformity is 3 not real, but is illusion, the mirage of error. Divine Science reveals these grand facts. On their basis Jesus demonstrated Life, never 6 fearing nor obeying error in any form. Deformity and perfection : The author has healed hopeless organic disease, and raised the dying to life and health through the understanding of God as the only Life. It is a sin to believe 1 that aught can overpower omnipotent and eternal Life, and this Life must be brought to light by the understand- 3 ing that there is no death, as well as by other graces of Spirit. Careful guidance : Not death, but the understanding of Life, makes man immortal :24 Immortal memory 24 Let the perfect model be present in your thoughts instead of its demoralized opposite. This spiritualization of thought lets in the light, 27 and brings the divine Mind, Life not death, into your consciousness :16 Let neither Steadfast and fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust 18 calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious as Life eternally is can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, 21 instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence dis- 24 cord with harmony. He is like a tree growing near a stream and sending out roots to the water. It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit. Jeremiah 17:8 Good News Translation Standpoints changed 6 sense, and we shall perceive Christianity, or Truth, in its divine Principle. This must be the climax before harmonious and immortal man is obtained and his 9 capabilities revealed. It is highly important in view of the immense work to be accomplished before this recognition of divine Science can come to turn our thoughts 12 towards divine Principle, that finite belief may be prepared to relinquish its error :17 18 The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour 18 in truth through flood-tides of Love :8 As a material, theoretical life-basis is found to be a 9 misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine Principle of man dawns upon human thought, The immortal and leads it to where the young child was, birth 12 even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes. Thus the whole earth will be transformed by Truth on its pinions of light, 15 chasing away the darkness of error. sense: a material, mortal perspective; what the five physical senses report climax: high point; ultimate; pinnacle immense: vast; enormous relinquish: give something up; let it go extract: remove; separate theoretical: based on theory; hypothetical; untested; unproven : We all must learn that Life is God. Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Condition 12 Truth and Love? If so, then the way will of progress grow brighter unto the perfect day. Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man. I really like asking how I can be a better example of God s care. Me too! Just asking myself that question helps me be more alert to God s qualities in myself and others. Agreed. I m looking forward to seeing good results from our efforts. Life 7

8 summer at another tournament would be there. I couldn t wait to play! The news was extremely exciting, but got better when the summer camp staff, who organized the tournament, told us where it would be: at the best polocrosse field in the world. When we realized what field it was, we were so excited. A polocrosse movie had been filmed on that field, and now we were going to be playing on it! When the day of the game finally arrived, though, I wasn t feeling well. I was having a hard time breathing, and the Colorado heat seemed to be making things worse. I had also had a lot of trouble sleeping the last few nights before the tournament. Polocrosse prayers Playing on the nicest field in the world was one of the best things that ever happened to me. You might think I m talking about playing soccer, but I m actually referring to a sport called polocrosse. If you have ever seen or played lacrosse, imagine doing it on horseback on a football-sized field, at high speed (and with a few different rules added) and you have polocrosse. And Sopris Ranch in Aspen, Colorado, is considered to have the best polocrosse field people come from all around the world to play on it, and I got to be one of them. My sister and I had the opportunity to learn to play polocrosse last summer, while we attended a summer camp for Christian Scientists. We practiced and worked at learning the sport every day for about three weeks and then discovered that we would have the chance to play an exhibition tournament of polocrosse against the Habañeros, a team from New Mexico, and a New South Wales team from Australia. I was also super excited because a lot of my new friends that I d met earlier that we have hidden an image of a pearl [ ] somewhere in the pages of mybiblelesson. happy pearl hunting! But I didn t want to give in to any thoughts that I couldn t achieve my full potential, so I didn t back down from playing in the game. My mom, a Christian Science practitioner, I didn t want to give in to any thoughts that I couldn t achieve my full potential. happened to be with us on the trip, and she and I prayed together before the tournament began. One of the thoughts we worked with was that I lived, and moved, and had my being in a totally spiritual environment (see Acts 17:28), which was always filled, inspired, and motived by divine Love. I knew that God, Love, was always causing me to be my best. My sister was also a big support. Pearl Hint: God pours out life to all. which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). Since I felt a little bit weak and disoriented at first, it was really helpful to realize that I already had the strength, through God, to express Him freely and completely, and to do all the things I needed to do. During the course of the day, I had to thrust a 30-pound saddle on and off the back of my horse several times as part of tacking up for the different matches, but as I clung to these spiritual ideas, the weakness and breathing trouble began to disappear. At one point later in the day, when I really felt like giving up, I thought about how much good my horse expressed. In a way she and I had the same sassy attitude, and I knew that she loves polocrosse as much as I do. My mom reminded me that God is All-in-all, and that God s ideas are always fully aware of His presence. So just as my horse couldn t BY CLARA express less than all of God s goodness, neither could I. This concept was really comforting, and I found I was able to breathe freely and feel strong during the afternoon. We had many great chuckkas (or matches, in soccer terms), together that weekend. I was grateful to be at summer camp, and for the nonstop love and inspiration I felt there. Thanks to prayer, I was able not only to keep going throughout the day, but to persistently express freedom and joy and my passion for polocrosse. At the end of the tournament s awards ceremony, I was awarded a beautiful silver belt buckle for my determination and enthusiasm for polocrosse. It was the best award I ve ever gotten not only because it was a recognition of how much polocrosse really matters to me in my life, but because it was also a celebration of the healing I experienced.
