SONS OF GOD is a translation of the Hebrew bene elohim נ י א ל חים).(ב This phrase is used several times in the Old Testament and indicates that God is not alone in heaven. Other English Bibles translate the words as divine beings (Common English Bible), heavenly beings (New Revised Standard Version), or angels (New International Version). However the phrase is translated, the purpose of the sons of God was and is to praise Him and His creation. wondrous: glorious; amazing; marvelous incorporeal: not made of matter; having no material existence; non-physical universal: worldwide; ever-present; part of absolutely everything; the same for everyone self-existence: existence possessed by virtue of one s own nature, independent of any other being or cause inclusive: including something in the whole; bringing into a space or group; accepting of another simulating: imitating; counterfeiting deific: divine; of God or referring to God... consider carefully the many wonders of God. ABRAHAM was considered the father, or originator, of the Jewish faith, and many Jewish people took great pride in that heritage. By calling this woman a daughter of Abraham, Jesus was showing his love by obviously including her in a type of religious family circle with himself and those who questioned his acts, thus quieting the criticism. Jehovah is one of the names for God used in the Old Testament. Mary Baker Eddy gives a clearer understanding of the word in the Glossary of Science and Health (see p. 590:20). Remember the healing of the woman with the spirit of infirmity? :7 Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of 9 Spirit over the flesh, to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin :10 Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he 12 refuted all opponents with his healing power :29 Jesus not understood Jesus proved 30 the Principle, which heals the sick and casts out error, to be divine. Few, however, except his students understood in the least his teachings and their glorious 1 proofs, namely, that Life, Truth, and Love (the Principle of this unacknowledged Science) destroy all error, 3 evil, disease, and death : Mind s control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science :26 Instead of God sending 27 sickness and death, He destroys them, and brings to light immortality. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes 30 and subsequently correct them. God does not cause man to sin, to be sick, or to die :16 God, good, can no more produce sickness than goodness can 18 cause evil and health occasion disease :26 Christianity as Jesus taught it was not 27 a creed, nor a system of ceremonies, nor a special gift from a ritualistic Jehovah; but it was the demonstration of divine Love casting out error and healing the sick, 30 not merely in the name of Christ, or Truth, but in demonstration of Truth, as must be the case in the cycles of divine light. The same law of Truth that governed her, governs me. accredited: authorized; officially recognized; verified creeds: the official beliefs of a religious community; tenets; denominational rules demonstrable: provable; apparent; logically shown subsequently: afterward; in due course ritualistic: formulaic; ceremonial 4

Knowing this, Jesus Divine providence once said, Take no thought for your life, 9 what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, presuming not on the prerogative of his creator, but recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe 12 man as He doth the lilies :15 15 In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes, Spirit, not matter, being the 18 source of supply :32 If seed is necessary to produce wheat, and wheat to 1 produce flour, or if one animal can originate another, how then can we account for their primal origin? How 3 were the loaves and fishes multiplied on the shores of Galilee, and that, too, without meal or monad from which loaf or fish could come? :5 6 The only intelligence or substance of a thought, 6 a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it :18 21, 24 25, Divine propagation 18 The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagating power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind 21 which includes all. 24 Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source. 27 The creative Principle Life, Truth, and Love is God :27 28 (to 1 st.) Ideas and identities righteousness: the state of being morally right or justified; virtuousness; fairness; uprightness victuals: food; food supplies or provisions sustained: supported; supplied; provided with staying power; prolonged providence: protective care; provision Do you know any songs from the radio or the web that sing praise to God? Israel has great variety in its geography. There are a lot of desert areas that would be too dry and barren for keeping sheep, but in the high mountains, there is lush grass, fresh water, and the safety of good sheepfolds (shelters). monad: single-celled organism; fish egg propagating: multiplying; reproducing molecule: a part of a compound made of two or more atoms inexhaustible: incapable of being used up; limitless; endless :10 Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demon- 12 strated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good. Examine your thought. Are you accepting limitation for yourself or the world? The law of God creates abundance, and everyone is included in that law. Stay aware of this fact, and you ll see evidence of it everywhere. 5

Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being. 7 COMPANY Perfectly placed BY MALVIN I ve been attending Christian Science Sunday School since I was four years old, and I m grateful to say that Christian Science has brought all kinds of healing in my life. I currently attend a boarding high school in the United States, but I live with my mother and my two cats near Frankfurt, Germany. About a year and a half ago, when I was in the ninth grade at another school, all my classmates and I were required to participate in a three-week internship with a company or a business. I applied to several companies, but they all turned my applications down. I was feeling really disappointed because I worked hard at school and thought I had strong applications. All my friends had already been accepted to positions within their first or second application. By autumn break, every student was supposed to have found a position. I was the only student in my class without one. If you couldn t find a position, our school would provide alternative positions, but those positions mostly seemed inappropriate for students they were in bakeries, butchers shops, and places like that. All my friends had gotten internships that related to our studies in math, science, and writing. The situation seemed really unfair to me, and I was kind of upset. I had almost given up. One day in class, my teacher asked who had already found a position, and everybody except for me raised their hands. I told her that I had written about 20 applications, but I don t think she really believed me. When I visited my grandma during the holidays, she suggested that we pray and ask a Christian Science practitioner for help. So I wrote an to a practitioner explaining the situation. A few hours later, he answered my and promised to pray with me. My grandma and I also prayed on our own. She told me that in God s eyes, we are all equal and no one is privileged. As Mary Baker Eddy wrote in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals (p. 13). Together, we read a lot from the Bible and Science and Health about how all God s children are created equally, given unlimited access to God s love and care. Thinking about that idea encouraged me. I especially liked a few of the quotes that we read together. This one from Isaiah stood out to me: I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways (45:13). I was really looking forward to my internship, because I hoped to spend those three weeks with an interesting company, learning a lot about working life. This quote assured me that I could listen for God s direction, since He was directing my path. A few days before, I had asked the father of a friend if he could try to find a position for me in the company he works in. He had said that it most likely wouldn t work, but he promised to try to find something for me. Just a few hours after I started praying with my grandmother, this man called and said that he had found a position in his company for me! The internship was in a laboratory in the quality check department of the company. We did a lot of interesting experiments, and I learned a lot about biology, which gave me an advantage in my biology lessons in school. The company wasn t far from where we live, and I loved riding my bike there every morning. Many of my friends came home late at night, sometimes feeling tired, but I came home in the early afternoon and had some free time. After a few days, I was treated like an assistant in the company, and I was actually able to help the employees, not only observe. All of my co-workers were really nice, and I had a great time there. At the end of the internship, I had to write a ten-page report on the experience, and I got an A on the paper. This awesome experience showed me that with God nothing is impossible. He provides the right position for all of His children. As the Bible says, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee (Job 42:2). It was wonderful to see that I can apply Christian Science to heal any problem in my life, even academic situations like this. I m also grateful for the support of my grandma because she has such a great background in Christian Science prayer and is always willing to help me, to answer my questions, and to teach me more about Christian Science. This experience definitely strengthened my trust in God s love and protection! Helga Janesch I am Malvin s grandmother. When I heard that he was the only pupil in his class who had not found a traineeship, I was first shocked and angry. I felt the situation was quite unjust because Malvin is a very good student. But I soon realized that anger doesn t heal anything and turned to God in prayer. I remembered that Mary Baker Eddy wrote in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. I should mention here that all the pupils had to send a photo together with their application. My grandson looked a bit different from all his classmates: he is half African and, at the time, had a rather unusual hair style. I wondered if people were exhibiting prejudice when they were seeing his photo. But this statement that Love is impartial and universal makes it so clear that God loves all His children equally, no matter what color their skin is or what their hair looks like. I shared these ideas with Malvin, and we rejoiced in the fact that we are all loved and cared for by our heavenly Father-Mother God. And I was most grateful to hear of the interesting internship that he received after our prayers together. We are most grateful that Christian Science can be applied to any problem.
