1 Is It Kosher? revised March 8, 2017 Please note that kashrut is to be observed at all official school functions regardless of actual time and place. This includes everything from the simplest classroom party to the annual dinner dance. Following is an outline of the school s policy. 1. Only kosher dairy and pareve products may be brought into the building. This includes lunches and snacks brought in by students, parents, staff, and volunteers. Pareve and dairy processed food items served at the school, other than fresh fruit and vegetables, must have a recognized hechsher (kashrut symbol of endorsement) on the label. Please note that a plain K is NOT acceptable for use in the school or for school functions. To help you with identifying kosher products, shown below are the most common kosher symbols found in our area, all of which would be accepted for use in the school. This is in no way a complete list, nor is it an endorsement of any supervising agency for use outside of the school. Questions about the acceptability of product for use in the school should be referred to the Director of Operations. You should check with your own rabbi for the acceptability of any symbol for use outside of the school (ie. in your home or synagogue). 2. Please note that meat is generally not served in the school building. Any meat served at a GRTWA function must be Glatt Kosher 3. Please check that an establishment is kosher before bringing in their prepared food. A list is of approved establishments is found further on in this document. Questions about the acceptability of an establishment or product should be referred to the Director of Operations who will then refer them to the Rabbinical Advisory Council for further clarification, if necessary. 4. In accordance with the school s kashrut policy, no homemade food, cakes, cupcakes, etc. will be accepted for in-school activities, even if you keep a kosher home; all items to be shared in the school must have a recognized hechsher (symbol of kosher supervison) as outlined above. If you will be preparing food in the school, you must use the school's kitchen, utensils, and serving pieces for washing, cutting, and cooking as needed. This includes cut fruit and vegetables. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our facility kosher.
