1 Shabbat Shalom A warm welcome to our guests We welcome you and are pleased that you have joined us to worship. We hope you will feel welcome whenever you are in town. If you are a new resident to our area, please introduce yourself so we can properly welcome you and tell you more about our wonderful congregation and community. 3 Kislev 5777 December 3, 2016 Toldot Torah Page 93 Haftorah - Page 103 Service Schedule Candle Lighting 12/2 Shabbat Morning Service Shabbat Ends 11/26 Candle Lighting 12/9 4:26 P.M. 9:30 A.M. 5:27 P.M. 4:26 P.M. Parsha Toldot In this Torah portion, Rebecca and Isaac have twins, the smooth skinned Jacob, who Rebecca favors, and the hairy Esau, who Isaac favors. After coming home from a hunting trip, Esau asks his brother for some lentil soup, but Jacob tells him he must trade his birthright. Years later, when Isaac is old and blind, Jacob tricks his father into giving him the first born blessing. Jacob leaves his home, out of fear of his brother, to find a wife at his uncle Leban s house. Refuah Sh leima Speedy Recovery Nancy Cohen, Earl Diamond, Sylvia Katcef, Roz and Harold Singerman, Gail Snyder, Natalie Tham, Fred Weinfeld May the Holy One, Blessed is He, be filled with compassion for them, to restore their health, to heal them, to strengthen and revivify them. 2 Daily Minyanim If you are in need of a Minyan for a Yahrtzeit for a loved one please contact Paul Walsky at or him at paulwalsky@yahoo.com or call Jody Goldsmith at or him at jody_goldsmith@hotmail.com. Dear Congregants and Friends, Here is our long awaited Shabbat Newsletter. As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, Kneseth Israel is entering a new era. With all of what s occurred over the last couple of years, our Shabbat page and our monthly newsletter, the Kolenu, have culminated into not being able to be produced for many months. It s not been for a lack of wanting to produce them. We just haven t had the personnel/volunteers and the funds to do so. Until we are on more firm ground, for the time being, we have decided to produce a very simple newsletter in order to keep you apprised of what s happening at KI. We are combining attributes of both the Shabbat page and the Kolenu into one product, and hope to grow and enhance it from here. This first issue is more pages than the following issues might be. In order to keep our costs down, we will be sending future issues via and it will also be put on the KI web site. For those of you who do not have , we need your help. We need to make sure we have your correct address. Please contact the If you get the answering machine, please leave your name and your complete address and most of all, please speak slowly and clearly. We want to make every effort to make sure you get the newsletter. We have some great things planned over the next several months. We have a Shabbat dinner planned for mid- December, a weekly Judaic Arts program beginning in January, and an opera concert and lecture in March. Please let us know what else YOU would like to have. We have begun working with an organization in New York that provides Rabbis for Shabbat. We will know more about this in the next couple of weeks. I want to thank all of you for your support of Kneseth Israel. As we stand together, we will survive and thrive. Shabbat Shalom, Michael
3 Dear Congregants and Friends of Kneseth Israel, I wanted to express my utmost joy in our celebration of this past High Holidays. I truly felt that this was one of the best yet, led by the wonderful Rabbi Micah Halpern. The services were spiritual and involving. The choir was yet again a joy to lead. We look forward to seeing you all at future concerts and events. I send you all much love. Yours, Shouvik Mondle Dear Congregants and Friends of Kneseth Israel, It has been a remarkable first few months of the school year. It has gone by so so fast. The children have all settled into their routines and have been forming lasting bonds and relationships. It is a joy to see them each day excited and having fun enjoying preschool. We have the greatest group of teachers that care for the children each and every day. They are so devoted to their passion of teaching and providing a wonderful, fun and nurturing environment. I feel so blessed to be a part of it all. During our first few months we have had amazing projects, art work, and celebrations. If you have a chance please visit our school wing and you will see all of our young artist work and pictures of fun times adorning the hallway. The children are always are on the go whether it be with their class work, learning centers, or special occasions. We have been able to enjoy all of the high holy days together and we come together each Friday to celebrate Shabbat. We welcome all to come and celebrate with us! October and November we also celebrated the change of seasons and welcomed Fall. The children have been doing projects and special events regarding autumn and we continued our annual tradition of going to the pumpkin patch. The children picked pumpkins, played games, and enjoyed a lovely warm day together with friends and family. Thanksgiving is now upon us, and from the KIPS family to yours...we wish you blessing and thanks to all.
