Great things indeed has God done for us; and so we rejoiced. Bring us back, O Everpresent, as streams rush back to wadis in the Negev. Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy. The one who plants in sadness, bearing his few sacks of seeds, will come back home in gladness, bearing ample sheaves of grain. 8 Psalm 126

13 Kiddush Blessing Shabbat Morning The traditional introduction begins with the following: Ve shamru v nei Yisroel et hashabat, la-asot et hashabbat l dorotam brit olam. Beini u vein b nei Yisroel ot hee l olam, ki sheshet yamim asah Adonai et hashama im ve et ha-aretz, uva-yom hashishi shavat vayinafash. Zachor et hayom hashabbat l kadsho. Sheshet yamim ta avod v asita kol melachtecha, v yom hashishi shabat l Adonai Eloheinu. Lo ta aseh kol melacha, ata u bincha u bitecha, avadecha v amat cha u beheimecha v gehrcha asher bish areicha. Ki sheshet yamim asah Adonai et hashama im v et ha-aretz. vayanach b yom hashishi. Al keyn beirach Adonai et yom hashabat v kadshei hu. The people Israel shall observe Shabbat, to maintain it as an everlasting covenant through all generations. It is a sign between Me and the people Israel for all time, that in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased from work and rested. Remember to make the day of Shabbat holy. Six days shall you labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Shabbat of the Lord your God; on it you shall not do any work you, your son or your daughter, your male or female servant, your cattle, or the stranger who is among you for in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth and the sea, and all that they contain, and on the seventh day He rested. 13
14 Havdalah End of Shabbat 14 The Havdalah service marks the end of Shabbat. It is performed no earlier than nightfall on Saturday night. You will need three things for this ritual: a glass of wine or grape juice; a container for fragrant spices (this can be a box, a cloth, anything that could hold spices such as cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves); a Havdalah candle. Havdalah candles are multi-wicked candles, but you can use two separate candles that you hold close together so their flames intertwine. The first of four blessings is said over wine or grape juice: fy2y hft-a ;VrfB 2 Baruch ata Adonai,flOifh 2 ;elem Vny11holEa Elohenu Melech ha-olam.]epfg-h yr12p a1 rob borei pri hagafen. Praised are you, Eternal One our God, Sovereign of all time and space, who creates the fruit of the vine. The second blessing is said over the spices which represent a compensation for the loss of the special Shabbat spirit. Each person is offered the spices to smell. fy2y hft-a ;VrfB 2,flOifh 2 ;elem Vny11holEa.,y1mfs2b y1ny1m arob 1 Baruch ata Adonai Elohenu Melech ha-olam borei minei b samim. Praised are you, Eternal One our God, Sovereign of all time and space, who creates fragrant spices. The third blessing is said over fire lighting the candle marks the distinction between Shabbat and the weekday because we don t traditionally light candles (or fire) on the Sabbath. After the blessing is recited, hold your hand to the flame with curved fingers to get a shadow on your palms. We do this because saying a blessing without doing so is regarded as improper. fy2y hft-a ;VrfB 2 Baruch ata Adonai,flOifh 2 ;elem Vny11holEa Elohenu Melech ha-olam.w 1afh yroa2m 1 a1 rob borei m orei ha aish. Praised are you, Eternal One our God, Sovereign of all time and space, who creates the lights of fire.
15 Havdalah End of Shabbat The final blessing is the Havdalah blessing itself, marking the separation of different things. After the blessing is completed you can drink the wine, and put out the candle using a few drops of wine. fy2y hft-a 2 ;VrfB,,flOifh 2 ;elem Vny11holEa lox2l wed0q ]y11b ly1d2b-m-h, 2 ;ew0x2l roa ]y11b,,y 1M-ifl l11a fr 2w1y ]y11b y1iy1b2w-h,oy ]y11b.hew-2i-m-h y11m2y tew11w2l fy2y hft-a ;VrfB 2.lOx2l wed0q ]y11b ly 1D2b-M-h Baruch ata Adonai, Elohenu Melech ha-olam, hamavdil bein kodesh l chol, bein or l choshek, bein yisrael la amim, bein yom ha shvi i, l shayshet y mei hama aseh. Baruch ata Adonai, hamavdil bein kodesh l chol. Praised are you, Lord our God, King of the universe who has endowed all creation with distinctive qualities, distinguishing between sacred and secular time, between light and darkness, between the people Israel and other people, between the seventh day and the six working days of the week. Praised are you, Lord who distinguishes between sacred and secular time. When this is done we traditionally put our arms around each other and sing to hasten the arrival of Elijah, foreshadowing the coming of the messianic age. ay1bfn-h VhY1l11a y1b2w1t-h VhY1l11a.y 1dfi2lIG-h VhY1l11a Vny11mfy2B hfr 11h2m1B Vn11l11 a aobfy.d1v fd -]eb -xy1wfm,1i Eliyahu hanavi Eliyahu hatishbi Eliyahu hagiladi.
