Shalom Chaverim by Lisa Baydush Shalom chaverim, shalom! (4x) It's so nice to see you all my special friends, I'm so glad that you're here today! Are you ready to sing lots of songs with me? If you are, let me hear you say... When we sing "shalom, can you wave your hands? What a great way to start the day! Shalom chaverim means Hello my friends! C mon, let me hear you say Yom Kippur is a quiet day; we come to services to think and pray. We think about the year that s passed; did we always do our best? We think about the year to come, and how to make it a happy one! Will you try and do your part to make it a sweet year from the start? L Shanah Tovah L Shanah Tovah, a happy new year! L Shanah Tovah, a healthy new year! L Shanah Tovah, a sweet new year for you and you and me! We dip our apples in honey, a sweet beginning to a sweet new year; We eat the challah so round, we hear the shofar sound; yes, we hear it loud and clear! (chorus) Teshuvah, we change for the better; Tefillah, we pray for the best; Tzedakah, we help other people in need, and God will take care of the rest. (chorus) Yom Kippur is a time for saying, I m sorry, and really meaning it. Let s think about some of the things we did that we are sorry about. I know there were times that I was impatient, and times when I didn t listen. What are some things that you are sorry for? I m Really Really Sorry by Lisa Baydush I m sorry, I m sorry, I m really, really sorry, I didn t mean to do that, and I won t do that again! I m sorry, I m sorry, I m really, really sorry, I didn t mean to hurt you, and I won t do that again! No, I won t do that again! If we make a mistake or say something hurtful, we do what we can to make amends; We make amends by saying I m sorry, we say I m sorry and we hug our friends! (chorus) On Yom Kippur, we look at the past year, we look at the past year and we make amends; On Yom Kippur, we think about the new year, we think about the new year and we hug our friends! (chorus) 1
Today we will say many kinds of prayers. Prayer is a way for us to connect with God. Some people think of God being up in the sky. Some people think of God being all around us. Some people think of God being inside of each of us. Prayer is Reaching to God to the tune of Frere Jacques Prayer is reaching (echo), UP/Out/In to God (echo). Saying what we're thinking, saying what we're feeling, Reaching UP/Out/In, up/out/in to God. Bar chu Sh ma Bar chu et Adonai ha-m vo rach. Baruch Adonai ham-vo-rach, l olam va-ed. Sh ma Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad. Hear O Israel, Adonai is our God, Adonai is one. Baruch sheim k vod mal chuto l olam vaed. Blessed is God s glorious name forever and ever. One is a very important number There is one God. There is one me, and there is one you. One may seem like a small number, but when one you and one me care for one another and work together, we can make a BIG difference in our world. One you, one me, one God! God is Everywhere and God is One God is everywhere and God is one, God is one! God is everywhere and God is one, God is one! God is everywhere and God is one, In the moon and the stars and the shining sun; God is everywhere and God is one, God is one! The V ahavta prayer is a commandment to love God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our might. We show our love for God with all our heart when we love other people. We show our love for God with all our soul when we do good deeds. We show our love for God with all our might when we stand up for what is right. 2
V ahavta V ahavta et Adonai Elohecha, Love Adonai your God! (repeat) With all your heart! With all your soul! And with all your might! (repeat) Let s show our love for God right now by singing and dancing and playing our instruments, as our ancestors did at the shore of the Sea of Reeds after having been freed from slavery: Mi Chamocha Ba-eylim Adonai Who is like You, O God?! You are mighty and awesome! You perform miracles! Mi Chamocha by Debbie Friedman Yai lai s Mi chamochah ba-eilim Adonai? Mi-kamochah, ne dar bakodesh, Nora t hilot, oseh feleh? Yai lai s Great, Mighty and Awesome, lyrics adapted by Lisa Baydush Great, mighty and awesome, yeah! (3x) God Supreme! (repeat) God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah (chorus) We sing love, we sing praise, we sing joy all our days (chorus) This Day and Every Day Shehecheyanu, v'kiamanu v'higianu lazman hazeh (2x) Thank you God for giving us this day and every day! Thank you God for giving us Your love in every way! THANK YOU GOD! (chorus) At Yom Kippur, we ask for God to help us do our best in the new year! Avinu Malkeinu English lyrics by Lisa Ashery A-vi-nu mal-kei-nu, cha-ne-nu v a-ne-nu (2x); ki eyn ba-nu ma-sim A-seh i-ma-nu, tz da-kah va-che-sed (2x); v ho-shi-ei-nu Oh, God, please hear my prayer, I want you to know that I care; I m sorry for mean words and fighting, not sharing; I ll try to do better this year. I know I didn t do the best that I could do, I ll try, I ll try, with all of my might to do what I know is right. Oh, God, please hear my prayer, I want you to know that I care; I m thinking about all the things I can do to make this a really good year! (2x) 3
We say that our deeds are written in the Book of Life on Rosh Hashanah, and that we have until the final blast of the shofar on Yom Kippur to edit it before it is sealed. If you could edit that book, what would you want it to say? G mar Chatimah Tovah by Julie Auerbach Open the book and write my name, Open the book and write my name, Open the book and write my name, G mar cha-ti-mah tovah! Look at all of things that YOU can do to make this a really good year! Together, we can build a better world! Building A Better World We're building a better world (3x), one person at a time. And the world goes round and round, the world goes round and round and round! (repeat) We're building a world with love/friends/peace (3x), one person at a time. (chorus) Ki mitziyon teitzei Torah. ud var Adonai mi rushalayim Baruch shenatan torah (torah) l amo Yisrael bik dushato For from Zion shall Torah go forth, the word of God from Jerusalem. Blessed is the One Who in holiness gave Torah to the people Israel. Torah Torah Torah Torah Torah, Torah Torah Torah, Torah tziva lanu Moshe (repeat) Torah Torah, Torah Torah, Torah tziva lanu Moshe (repeat) Torah tziva lanu Moshe (4x) ~ Story~ 4
On Yom Kippur by Lisa Baydush On Yom Kippur, I say to you, I m so sorry, and you do too. On Yom Kippur, I say to you, Please forgive me, and you do. On Yom Kippur, we make amends, we make a promise to be good friends. Shana Tovah! As we come to the end of our service, we think about how grateful we are for the blessings in our lives! We thank God for the world around us. (echo) We thank God for the sun and stars. (echo) We thank God for giving us the Torah. (echo) We thank God for our family and friends. (echo) In All Things Be Thankful, lyrics adapted by Lisa Baydush Everything you do, everything you say, Everything you think, and in every single way In all things be thankful! (3x) Whoa whoa whoa I m thankful for my mom, I m thankful for my dad, I m thankful for my friends, and everything I have (chorus) May You Be Sealed May you be sealed for a good year, for a sweet year, for a healthy year. May you be written in the book of life, G mar Chatima Tovah! Shana Tova! 5
