4 Praying Together for Peace, Safety and Strength for Israel We are fortunate to be celebrating Global Shabbat joyously as communities across the BBYO International Order. However, there are communities in the world that are not as privileged as we are today including areas within our Jewish Homeland who have recently experienced violence and instability. Let us take a moment to think about the peaceful existence of people of all faiths and backgrounds in Israel, and pray for their strength and safety. Prayer for the State of Israel א ב ינ ו ש ב ש מ י ם צ ור י ש ר א ל ו ג וא ל ו ב רכ א ת מ ד ינ ת י ש ר א ל ר אש ית צ מ יח ת ג א ל ת נו... Avinu Shebashamayim tzur yisrael v goalo bareich et m dinat Yisrael reishit tzmi chat g ulateinu Our Father in heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the beginning of the sprouting of our redemption, protect it with Your kind wing, and spread over it Your shelter of peace; send Your light and truth to its leaders, officers and advisers, and set them aright with good counsel from before You. Strengthen the hands of the protectors of our holy land, and grant them, our God, salvation, and crown them with the crown of victory; emplace peace in the land, and everlasting joy for its inhabitants. And our brethren, the entire House of Israel, remember, in all the lands of their diaspora, and lead them quickly, upright to Your city Zion to Jerusalem, the dwelling place of Your Name. As is written in the Torah of your servant Moses: If you will be removed to the end of the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you, from there He will take you. The Lord your God will bring you to the land that your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; He shall be good to you, and increase you more than your fathers. The Lord your God shall rectify your hearts and the hearts of your offspring, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul, so that you may live. (Deuteronomy 30:4 6) Unite our hearts to love and revere Your Name, and to keep all the words of Your Torah. Send us, quickly, the son of David your righteous messiah, to redeem those waiting for the time of your salvation. Reveal gloriously the pride of Your might to all the inhabitants of Your physical world, and let all who have breath in their nostrils say: The Lord, the God of Israel is King, and His Kingship rules over all. Amen, Selah. Prayer for Peace A season is set for everything, a time for every experience under heaven: A time for being born and a time for dying, A time for planting and a time for uprooting the planted; A time for slaying and a time for healing, A time for tearing down and a time for building up; A time for weeping and a time for laughing, A time for wailing and a time for dancing; A time for throwing stones and a time for gathering stones, A time for embracing and a time for shunning embraces; A time for seeking and a time losing, A time for keeping and time for discarding; A time for ripping and a time for sewing, A time for silence and a time for speaking; A time for loving and a time for hating; A time for war and a time for peace. Ketuvim (Ecclesiastes) 3:1-8 Global Shabbat Prayers for Peace 4
5 Alternative Prayer for the Peace and People of Israel Our Divine Guardian, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the beginning of our redemption. Shield it beneath the wings of Your steadfast love and spread over it the shelter of Your peace. May a spark of Your spirit inspire the actions of its President, Prime Minister, officials, judges and advisors that they may follow the path of righteousness, liberty and freedom. Strengthen the hands of those who build and protect our Holy Land and grant them salvation and life. Grant peace to this land and everlasting joy to its inhabitants. Be near to all the people of Israel throughout the lands of their dispersion. Plant within their hearts the love of Zion, and may those of our people are so inspired come to Jerusalem, Your city, which bears Your name. Spread Your spirit over all the inhabitants of our land. Uproot hatred, jealousy and evil; plant in our heart love and brotherhood, peace and friendship. And speedily fulfill the version of Your prophet: Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn more anymore. Lo yi-sa goi el goi che-rev, lo yil-du od mil-cha-ma. And let us say: Amen.
