8 Shabbat morning, April 22 Temple Emanu-El will welcome Daniel Sherman, who will speak on A Jewish & Zionist Response to Today s Volatile Middle East. Daniel Sherman is a strategic and organizational consultant focusing on peace and development issues. He served as a Senior General Staff officer in the Israel Defense Forces Strategic Planning Division where he worked on the peace process and Israel s defense-oriented international relations (completing reserve duty with the rank of major); developed social welfare programs for disadvantaged Jewish communities in central and eastern Europe with the Joint Distribution Committee; worked on strategic planning and leadership development at the Mandel Foundation; and was International Relations Director for the Israeli human rights organization, B Tselem, where he was responsible for engagement with diplomats and international policy makers. Daniel recently launched Yuvalim, an innovative project that promotes peace and shared society in Israel by linking communal networks with visionary Israeli leaders and with outstanding organizations working to solve Jewish-Arab and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. To launch Yuvalim, Daniel embarked on a 273 kilometer solo sea kayaking journey in May 2016 from Nahariyya to Ashqelon during which he met and spoke with Israelis and Palestinians about their views on peace and war. Daniel made aliya from the United States in 1990 and lives in Modi in, Israel with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, writing and sea-kayaking. 26 New Shabbat & Festival Siddur, Siddur Lev Shalem Thanks to the great generosity of many of our members, we now have over 200 copies of the new Siddur Lev Shalem available for use on Shabbat and holidays. We recently started using the new Siddur, and it will now be our primary prayer book. But we need many more copies to fill the Main Sanctuary, especially when we have special celebrations. If you would like to donate one or more of these new prayer books, please go to the Temple website, teprov.org, where you can make your donation, or call the Temple office at Each prayer book costs $36. Like the Mahzor Lev Shalem, which we use on High Holy days, our new Siddur features a four column format, new translations in contemporary language, a commentary providing historical context as well as kavanot, poetry and prose that expand and enrich our relationship to the text. To learn more about the Siddur, follow the link and click on the A Look Inside link in the left column:
