See below, Hosafos, for the laws that apply if you forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo. When bentching, add the Harachaman for Rosh Chodesh (as well as Retzei and the Harachaman for Shabbos). There is no need to repeat bentching if the Harachaman was omitted. When saying a Berachah Acharonah Mei ein Shalosh (e.g., Al Hamichyah), add the additions for Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh. There is no need to repeat the berachah if they were omitted. 1 Shacharis, Krias Hatorah, and Musaf After Shemoneh Esrei, say Half Hallel. (For more on Hallel, see below, Hosafos. ) This is followed by Kaddish Shalem, Shir Shel Yom and Barchi Nafshi. 2 first Sefer Torah, six aliyos are read in Parshas Vayikra. The sixth oleh reads from Shishi until the end of the parshah. The second Sefer Torah is then placed next to the first one. 3 This is followed by hagbah and gelilah of the first Sefer Torah. From the second Sefer Torah, Uviyom Hashabbos is read (Bamidbar 28:9-15). The third Sefer Torah is then placed next to the second one, and Chatzi Kaddish is recited. This is followed by hagbah and gelilah of the second Sefer Torah. From the third Sefer Torah, Parshas Hachodesh is read for maftir (Shemos 12:1-20). This is followed by hagbah and gelilah of the third Sefer Torah. The haftorah of Parshas Hachodesh is then read (Yechezkel 45:18-46:15). 4 The maftir then adds the first and last possuk of the haftorah for Shabbos Rosh Chodesh, Hashomayim Kis i (Yeshayahu 66:1; 23-24). 5 Since the last possuk includes a negative connotation, he reads the previous possuk (Vehayah midei chodesh), the last possuk (Veyatz u vera u), and then the previous possuk once again (Vehayah midei chodesh). 6 See below, Hosafos, for the laws that apply if the wrong haftorah was read. We do not say Av Harachamim. This applies to every Shabbos this month as well. At Musaf, say Atah Yatzarta (instead of the regular Tikanta Shabbos). See below, Hosafos, for the laws that apply if you said Tikanta Shabbos. After davening, say the Nassi. Today s Nassi reading is from Vayehi kalos Moshe until zeh korban Nachshon ben Aminadav. Next, say the Yehi Ratzon, inserting the shevet of Yehudah. Saying the Nassi is not just about recalling karbanos brought in the past. It has an everlasting effect, so much so that all the holy sparks and lights included in this shevet may shine upon me, to understand Your Torah and fear of You, to fulfill Your will throughout my life, I, my children, and my children s children, from now and forever, Amen! 3 Rest of the Day The Rebbe encouraged arranging farbrengens (in shul 7 ) on Rosh Chodesh. 8 At Minchah, we do not say Tzidkas cha. This applies to every Shabbos this month as well. The Frierdiker Rebbe cites an ancient custom to study another possuk from the kapitel corresponding to one s age each Rosh Chodesh, along with Rashi s explanation (and additional commentaries). 9 For Tehillim with Rashi, visit org/ If there are less than twelve pesukim in your kapitel (or less than thirteen in a leap year), when you finish the kapitel, learn it a second time. When saying shnayim mikra, say both the haftorah of Parshas Tzav (Yirmiyahu 7:28; 9:22-23) and the haftorah of Shabbos Hagadol (Ve arvah Malachi 3:4-24, although this haftorah will not be read in public). 14 HOSAFOS ROSH CHODESH NISSAN Yaaleh Viyavo When Davening If you forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo during Maariv and remembered after saying Hashem s name at the end of the berachah, do not go back to repeat it. 15 If you forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo during Shacharis or Minchah and remembered after saying Hashem s name at the end of the berachah, finish the berachah and say it before Modim. 16 If you already began saying Modim, go back to Retzei. 17 If you already said the second Yihiyu leratzon at the end of Shemoneh Esrei, go back to the beginning of Shemoneh Esrei. 18 If you forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo during Shacharis and only remembered after davening Musaf, do not repeat the Shemoneh Esrei of Shacharis רשימת היומן ע' שצז. 15 שו"ע סי' תכב ס"א ובמג"א שם סק"א. 16 שו"ע סי' תכב ס"א. ראה באריכות ב'התקשרות' גיליון ת"ת. 17 שם. 18 שם. 19 שו"ע אדה"ז סי' קכו ס"ג.

6 If you forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo during Minchah and only remembered at night, daven Maariv twice, once for Maariv and the second time as a voluntary tefillah. However, since it is no longer Rosh Chodesh, do not say Yaaleh Viyavo during either Shemoneh Esrei. 20 Say Atah Chonantanu during the first Shemoneh Esrei, but not during the second. 21 All the above also applies if you are unsure whether you have said Yaaleh Viyavo. 22 Bentching The one leading the bentching raises his voice when saying the words ה' אלקינו בו לטובה, ופקדנו בו לברכה, והושיענו בו לחיים טובים,זכרנו and those listening answer amen after each phrase. However, if they are in the middle of bentching as well, they may only answer if they are between berachos. 23 If you remembered Retzei but forgot to say Yaaleh Viyavo and remembered before starting the berachah of Hatov Vehameitiv, say the added paragraph for Rosh Chodesh printed in the bentcher or siddur. If you remembered after starting that berachah, do not go back. 24 If you forgot to say both Retzei and Yaaleh Viyavo and remembered before starting the berachah of Hatov Vehameitiv, say the added paragraph that combines Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh printed in the bentcher or siddur. 7 Hallel If you are saying Hallel without a minyan, say the berachos at the beginning and end. 27 When saying the berachah at the end of Hallel, the word על is omitted. 28 Many are accustomed to saying these berachos even when saying Hallel with a minyan. 29 If doing so, say the berachos before or together with the chazzan, and do not answer amen on the chazzan s berachah. 30 Repeat the possuk of Hodu after each of the three pessukim of Yomar na (even when saying Hallel without a minyan 31 ). With regard to interrupting for devarim shebikdushah, Hallel shares the laws of birchos krias shema. 32 (To elaborate: With Kaddish, you may interrupt for Yehei Shmei Rabba and the amen of da amiran be alma. With Kedushah, you may interrupt for Kadosh, Boruch, and Yimloch. With Modim, you may say the words Modim anachnu lach. You may interrupt for Borchu and for the amen of Hakel hakadosh, Shomei a tefillah, and birchos hatorah. 33 ) Haftorah If the maftir began reading the wrong haftorah, he should stop and continue with the correct one. If he remembered after saying the concluding berachos, he should say the correct haftorah without the berachos. 34 Atah Yatzarta If you said Tikanta Shabbos instead of Atah Yatzarta and have not yet finished Shemoneh Esrei, go back to Atah Yatzarta. 8 CHODESH NISSAN Birchas Ilanos Birchas Ilanos may only be recited during Chodesh Nissan. 36 Women recite this berachah as well. 37 Lechatchilah say the berachah when seeing at least two fruit trees. 38 The berachah cannot be said if the blossoms have already fallen off and the fruit have begun to develop 'שערי הלכה ומנהג' או"ח ח"א עמ' רכ, ע"פ סדר ברכת-הנהנין שבסידור אדמוה"ז. ודלא כמ"ש בלוח כולל-חב"ד )ע"פ קצות- השולחן סי' סו בבדי-השולחן ס"ק יח( שניתן לברך ברכה זו גם בחודשי אדר או אייר. 37 נסמן בס' שו"ע הקצר פרק פז סי"א. 38 כף-החיים סי' רכו ס"ק ב ובדי-השולחן סי' סו ס"ק יח. 39 ואפילו בלא שם ומלכות 'ביאור סדר ברה"נ' עמ' 544. בשו"ת מהרי"ל )הישנות( סי' קמג נקט בפשיטות שמי שלא בירך בראייה ראשונה מברך בראייה שנייה, ונעתק באגור סי' שיח ומטה-משה סי' שסא )שם הביא מזה ראיה לדין שהחיינו, שבו נחלקו עליו, ולדעת רבינו בסידורו מברכים ללא שם ומלכות(, ובבירור-הלכה סי' רכו )עמ' רט( כ' שלפי כללי הפוסקים יש לפסוק כן נגד כל האחרונים שלא ראוהו. בבדי-השולחן שם הבין בסדר ברכת הנהנין פי"ג הי"ד שאין לברך, אבל מפשטות הלשון הכוונה רק לשלול ברכה נוספת באותה שנה )וכמו בהלכה יג וכו' שלא כותבים כך. ובפרט שמהלשון שם "אינו חוזר ומברך" משמע שכן מברך לראשונה(. וראה בזה באריכות בשו"ע הקצר פרק פז ס"ג ובהערות.
