2 Guest Speaker: Lloyd Kishinsky The Music of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick Groups in Bloomfield, South Orange, West Caldwell, West Orange, White Meadow Lake, Whippany and Morristown. My programs range from Pavarotti and The Moiseyev Dance Company to Theodore Bikel and Neil Diamond. When I moved to Fox Hills in Rockaway from West Orange seven years ago, I saw a need and started a Music Club. I embarked on my second career combining my love of music and my skills as a Computer Engineer to produce music videos. I now have over 100 programs on DVD and am registered as a Hirschhorn Lecturer. I have presented music programs to all the At Leisure Groups at the JCC and to Senior The program I will be presenting is about composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick. Together they wrote several Broadway shows including Fiorello, She Loves Me, and Fiddler on the Roof. 2

3 STATEMENT ON THE PITTSBURGH SHOOTING BY THE ADL: Our hearts break for the families of those killed and injured at the Tree of Life Synagogue, and for the entire Jewish community of Pittsburgh. We believe this is the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the history of the United States. We are actively engaged with law enforcement to support their investigation and call on authorities to investigate this as a hate crime. It is simply unconscionable for Jews to be targeted during worship on a Sabbath morning, and unthinkable that it would happen in the United States of America in this day and age. Unfortunately, this violence occurs at time when ADL has reported a historic increase in both anti-semitic incidents and anti-semitic online harassment. As we mourn those lost and search for answers, ADL will remain steadfast in its mission to fight anti-semitism wherever and whenever it may occur. AS A RESPONSE TO THE PITTSBURGH JEWISH COMMUNITY TRAGEDY, THE UNITY CLUB EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HAS VOTED TO ASK EACH MEMBER TO CONTRIBUTE AT LEAST $36 TO A FUND THAT WILL BE EQUALLY DONATED TO THE TREE OF LIFE VICTIMS FUND, H.I.A.S., and the A.D.L. THE UNITY CLUB WILL MATCH ALL CONTRIBUTIONS UP to $1000 FROM OUR TREASURY. PLEASE MAKE YOUR CHECK PAYABLE TO THE UNITY CLUB and BRING IT TO THE NEXT MEETING or SEND IT TO OUR TREASURER LOU GIKOW. ABOUT The Unity Club returns to a favorite dining venue for our November meeting. We usually meet the first Thursday of the Month. Next meeting at the Reservoir Restaurant in South Orange to plan events, have a nosh and kibbitz a little. 5 THE UNITY CLUB The Unity Club was formed in The purpose of the club is to provide a social benefit of its members, for the cultivation of civic understanding, for the establishment of a forum for the cultural and social enjoyment of its members, and to promote the general welfare of its constituents. In addition the Unity Club has a rich history of educating its members with Jewish culture and information and provide philanthropy to the community. Best Wishes to Larry Stempler s daughter Falyn who is leaving to study in Israel Norman Wassenberger and Abe Eichenblatt are both recovering from their recent illnesses Scott Delman, son of Steve Delman is recovering from a serious bicycle accident. The Unity Club wishes Scott a speedy recovery. 5

I have two female talking parrots, but they only know how to say one thing." "What do they say?" the Rabbi asks. "They only know how to say, 'Hello, we're prostitutes, want to have some fun?'" "Why, that's terrible!" the Rabbi says, "but I have a solution to your problem. Bring your two female parrots over to my house tomorrow and I will put them with my two male talking parrots that I taught to pray and read Hebrew. My parrots will teach your parrots to stop saying that terrible phrase and your female parrots will learn to praise and worship." "Oh thank you, Rabbi," Hette replies. The next day Hette brings her female parrots to the Rabbi's house. His two male parrots are wearing tiny yamulkes and praying in their cage. Hette puts her two female parrots in with the male parrots and the female parrots say, "Hello, we're prostitutes, want to have some fun?" One male parrot looks over at the other male parrot and exclaims, "Put away the siddurs! Our prayers have been answered!" 6
