I refuse to be blackmailed and so to take away their leverage, I am preempting them and sharing the s with you myself with some information redacted. I am obviously very embarrassed and regret that I used my own personal server instead of the Shul s more secure one. You would attack me for something outrageous and call on the community to fire me for not being frum enough. The people will rally around me and drop this distraction about going to the right. 7 ISRAEL UPDATE SOCIAL ACTION JNF is Honoring Spain's Former President, José María Aznar, with the esteemed Shalom Peace Award at JNF's National Conference November 10-13, Aznar is certainly worthy of this honor. Under his leadership, a high level group met in Paris in the middle of 2010 to launch a new project, the "Friends of Israel Initiative" in defense of Israel s right to exist. "If Israel goes down, we all go down," the former premier wrote in the London newspaper, The Times. "Israel is our first line of defense in a turbulent region that is constantly at risk of descending into chaos," Aznar continued, adding that "to abandon Israel to its fate, at this moment of all moments, would merely serve to illustrate how far we have sunk and how inexorable our decline now appears. The "Friends of Israel Initiative" has been joined by such notable figures as Former Prime Minister to Canada Stephen Harper, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate David Trimble, Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, and others, with the aim to counter growing efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel and its right to live in peace within safe and defensible borders. Have you ever wondered what that meal must have been like? Ahashverosh : This food is awful. What is it? Esther: It s marror. You re not supposed to eat it yet. Haman: Well, when are we supposed to eat? All you ve given us so far is a wet potato! Ahashverosh (chewing): Is this cement? Haman: Can we drink the second cup of wine now, or not yet? Esther: OK, everybody, calm down. First we re going to talk about the Jews being enslaved in Egypt. Ahashverosh : Why? Esther: Very good, you re asking questions. Actually, I m Jewish, too, and someone wants to kill me. Ahashverosh : Who? Esther: I m getting there. Point is, if we had been slaves, I wouldn t be giving this speech. (Adapted from Purim Torah The Halakhah requires that shehitah must be accomplished by using a cutting implement to sever the simanim (trachea and esophagus). The Gemara (Hullin 8a) wonders about using a boiling hot shehitah knife since there are two elements at play that may have caused the severing of the simanim. Do we assume that the actual cutting of the simanim resulted from the sharp blade, or perhaps were the simanim already partially split because of the intense heat of the metal blade? קודם לליבונה או ליבונה קודם לחידודה) (?חידודה Shmuel asserts in the name of R. Zeira that it is clear that the sharpness of the blade caused the cut and not the heat. Hatam Sofer quotes the Hafla ah to explain what is otherwise a strange assertion R. Zeira takes a strong position on a factual matter that appears rather unknowable. He answers by referring to the story in Gemara Megilah where Rabbah and R. Zeira celebrated their seudat Purim together and in the midst of the joviality, Rabbah killed R. Zeira. The Gemara describes it as shehitah. The Hafla ah suggests that perhaps it was with a scalding hot knife and so R. Zeira is perhaps the only person who could actually testify that he knew from experience which part of the blade causes the cutting. Hatam Sofer wonders how R. Zeira could have been so sure that it was the sharpness and not the heat that caused his death. He references a Gemara (Yevamot 120b) that points out that a scalding hot blade has the potential to heal as well (by cauterizing a wound and preventing continued blood flow) and not necessarily kill. Since the Gemara Megilah is quite clear that R. Zeira died (and was later miraculously brought back to life), it could not be the heat of the blade that caused the shehitah but rather its sharpness.
