3 Bruchim Ha bayim, Welcome to Ramah Darom! When I was a child I spent several years at Jewish summer camp, a place that was filled with meaning and love. Every year when I would come home it would take a long while to acclimate being back in real life. I remember thinking, Why do they keep calling our chadar a dining room? Why am I sleeping alone instead of with 18 other people? and wishing that my family could relate to the homesick feeling I had when away from camp. Winter Break Family Camp is the chance to tap into the alternate universe that camp creates, where fun and games are the work of your day, new acquaintances immediately become family, and Judaism is felt and experienced in a warm and radically welcoming environment. I am so happy to welcome you to the Winter Break Family Camp family. Please know that Ramah Darom is your home now and always. Eliana Leader Director, KMRC Kaplan Mitchell Retreat Center at Ramah Darom Shalom, Winter Break Family Campers! As the Program Coordinator for the Ramah Darom Retreat Center, I am excited to welcome you to Winter Break Family Camp at Ramah Darom. This program book includes all the information you need to ensure a fun and meaningful vacation for you and your family. We are so excited you are here and are looking forward to sharing five fun-filled days of laughter, games, learning, and connecting. We hope you have the opportunity to do something you love, connect with old friends, try something for the first time and meet new people. If you have any questions during the retreat about the program schedule, kids program or logistics, I or one of our Ramah Darom team members will be happy to help you. I look forward to celebrating with you as we ring in the New Year! Emily Kaiman Program Coordinator, KMRC Kaplan Mitchell Retreat Center at Ramah Darom שלום Winter Break Family Camp 3

If you have difficulty walking, please see a Ramah Darom staff member to discuss accommodations. Please note, we are not able to rent out golf carts to individuals and families. Alcohol Alcohol may only be consumed by adults 21 years of age and older. To maintain our standards of Kashrut, we ask that you do not bring your own alcoholic beverages into the Dining Room. Boxed Lunches Boxed lunches will be available for you to take on your checkout day. Business Center There is full Wi-Fi access in every building on campus, however there are times that our breathtaking mountain terrain might pose some challenges to this connection. Guests are welcome to use our computers, printer, and copier at any time in our Business Center located in the Welcome Center. If you require a private space to work, our staff will be happy to help you find what you need. Candlelighting We will provide Shabbat candles for candle lighting in the Dining Room. You may not light candles in your room! Cars and Parking The speed limit on campus is 5mph. Guests are asked not to use their vehicles to travel around campus. Guests may park only in approved parking locations. It is extremely important to only park in designated parking areas to ensure our maintenance and facilities team can access all areas of our campus. Cell Phone Use Cell phone signals can be spotty. We suggest enabling your Wi-Fi calling if your phone has this feature. If you find a good spot, stay put! Check-In and Check-Out Check-in starts on December 27th at 1:00pm. Check-out is no later than 11:30am on Monday, January 1st. Children s Camp/Youth Programming Supervised youth programming will be offered daily by professional educators and experienced counselors. A daily camp schedule can be found in this program book. Please encourage your children to join us in all camp activities. There is a mandatory meeting for parents at the start of the program so that everyone understands drop-off and pick-up procedures, and to ensure the safety of all our campers. Clothing Our atmosphere is casual. For Shabbat we recommend bringing dressier attire. Temperatures can drop quickly in the evenings and early mornings, so we do suggest layering your clothes. Bring comfortable shoes, and rain gear just in case! Drinking Water All water on our property is underground mountain spring water great for drinking! Driving Directions Online mapping and navigation systems can be inaccurate in the mountains. If you intend to go off campus during your stay, please refer to the driving directions in your Welcome Packet. Electronics Family Camp is a great time to take a break from electronics. While camp is a safe environment, please be aware that individual cabins do not lock. Campers will not be permitted to bring electronics to group time each day. We encourage everyone to enjoy the community by using earphones and game-playing devices only in their rooms. Emergencies/Illness In the event of an emergency, call 911 or from a land line. Be prepared to state the nature of the problem and your location (70 Darom Lane, Clayton, Georgia 30525). Please also dial #9300 internally or (706) to reach our receptionist who will help notify a staff member of the situation. From Midnight-7:00am your call will be routed to our answering service who will notify the appropriate Ramah Darom Staff. For minor medical issues, first aid kits are available at the Welcome Center Reception Desk, in the Marcus Lodge Hotel community room (ground floor), in the Mountainside Retreat Hotel kitchenette (lower level), in the Lakeside Hotel sitting room (lower level), and in the Main Dining Room. We will have a Nurse Practitioner on staff available after breakfast, in the afternoon, and for emergencies. The Mini- Marp (Infirmary) is located on the lower level of the Levine Center. Meals Times At lunch and dinner, approximately halfway through the meal, the Mountainside and Lakeside Kid Zones (located in side dining rooms) will be open. These children s rooms will be a supervised area for kids who have finished eating to hang out and play. There will be some toys and games available and you may also add your own (please label them so they can be returned to you). At Shabbat dinner, Kiddush will be recited aloud for the community; the buffet line will open thereafter. At all other meal times, ritual items will be provided per table as needed. Prayers All participants are welcome to join in daily prayer services. Times are listed in the Program Book. Our services are run as traditional egalitarian services. On Shabbat we are also happy to offer tot-shabbat services to serve the diverse needs of our guests. Room Keys Hotel room keys are available upon request. Keys must be returned to the Reception Desk prior to check-out or a charge of $50 will be assessed. Running/Walking Off Property If you intend to run or walk on the road outside of our property, please be aware that there are dogs in the area that might not be as friendly as we are at Ramah Darom! Shabbat Shabbat at Camp is also a special opportunity to unplug from our phones and other devices so we can connect with family, new friends, and nature. Out of respect for this value and our community, we ask that guests refrain from using electronics in public spaces during Shabbat. In case of emergency, phones are available in all rooms and throughout the campus. Smoking Smoking is not allowed inside any building. There is a designated smoking area on the back porch outside of the Mountainside Dining Hall. A fee will be assessed to rooms or areas showing evidence of smoking or smoke damage. Supervision When your children are with their counselors during group time they will be fully supervised by the counselors and given a full camp program. At other times, such as family time and meals, parents are responsible for the supervision of their children. During the evening adult activities, counselors will be assigned to central spaces in the hotel and cabin areas to listen for children who wake up or need something. Counselors are there to respond to needs that arise but are not available to supervise bedtime. One counselor will always be available to get a parent if necessary, and every location will have a walkie talkie to stay in communication. However, please note that each family will not have its own individual babysitter. If you wish to participate in Shmira (Night Listening) you must fill out the Shmira Agreement and return it to us at registration.
