Page 2 "The President's message is excerpted from Don's Yom Kippur Message. It contains a lot of pertinent information, and provides an opportunity for those members that were not at the service to become aware of the subjects covered." PRESIDENT S MESSAGE workers. Several months ago I agreed to a third 2 year term as President of the JCC. I did this to oversee and finish the difficult few years of planning, financing, constructing, and occupying this beautiful new building we are enjoying. And just as the President, whoever it is, will give the State of the Union Speech next January, I can give a State of the Congregation message now. At almost every congregation and most organizations, a speech of this type will tell how we are doing, why we need to raise more money, and plead for more volunteer While I had a hand in most of the activities involved in getting us to where we now are, I relied on some very good and dedicated members to do most of the work. Many, many, spent dozens and dozens of hours on this project, and they have been acknowledged and thanked many times in speeches, announcements, articles, and at our gala dedication evening in June. I won t take the time to do so again, but will thank them as a group. Whether you were involved in some committee meetings and planning, or just in doing some of the schlepping, your efforts contributed to the overall success. But there are a few members who didn t devote dozens and dozens of hours, but rather hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours and effort, and REALLY made this thing happen. It starts with Ed Dreyfus who, with his enthusiasm, got this project off the ground and approved by the Board of Trustees. It was his sketches and building plan layout that became the basis for the exterior look and the room plans we now have. He then spearheaded the selection of the Architect, and began the process of selecting the Contractor. CARING COMMITTEE This committee acts as a support system for congregation members facing illness and other personal situations that need to be addressed. Please contact Chairperson, Joy Kern, if you are in need of assistance or if you know of a JCC member that needs our help Nothing could have proceeded without sufficient money. Rose Valentine accepted this responsibility and dove in with both feet. We didn t raise as much as we hoped, and therefore we had to scale down our plans, but she chaired the raising of just over $1.2 million. When coupled with monies realized from the construction and sale of our second condo, and the $500,000 borrowed from members and friends, the project was a GO. Countless hours were spent by her in composing solicitation and acknowledgement letters, articles, and fund-raising strategies. No professional fees were paid, and except for postage and printing costs, all money raised was available for the Project. The baton was then passed to Jeff Shapiro who took over as chairman of the construction phase. While many helped, his primary team consisted of his 2 lieutenants- Sherry Fruchterman and Harold Farin. Those three were involved in every day decisions on materials and design, on furniture, on working with contractors and suppliers, and getting it done. There were many weeks when one or several of them were at the site every single day. If Jeff was the General, then Sherry and Harold were his Colonels rather than Lieutenants. In fact, Sherry is still working on several aspects of the project, and when funds are available has many more ideas. Continued on next page

Page 3 Besides helping Jeff, Harold also took charge of the Transition Phase. This involved finding places to store all the JCC stuff for about a year, getting everything to those storage areas and then back again to our new building, arranging places to run our Office and hold services, and making sure that the proper stuff was at each location when needed. The Julius Robinson family gave us sufficient office space for about a year, and St. Francis allowed us the use of 2 churches for our services for the same year-actually it was for 13 months. We also used space at the Library in Surf City, at Yacht clubs, and at several other churches. And through the generosity of St. Francis and the Robinsons, they also supplied the electricity, the heating, and the air conditioning needed for our use. In this report I am NOT TALKING to a congregation of 300 or so people. I am talking to EACH of you, individually. I am asking YOU, and YOU, and YOU specifically to help by contributing YOUR monies and YOUR time. And by asking you as an individual for your help, I hope I will get an INDIVIDUAL response, not just a group response of ignoring these requests. We still need your support in raising more money. I spoke at Rosh Hashona about our High Holiday Appeal. With this new facility, 3 times the size of our old one, all our utility and insurance expenses have gone up substantially. Our dues are still very low in comparison with other congregations. Many have several levels of dues structure, and encourage members to raise to a higher level than the already high basic dues. This allows the Budget to be met, and to subsidize the dues of some members whose financial situation makes it difficult to fully participate. Rather than a higher dues appeal, we do this through our High Holiday Appeal. If you haven t yet done so, please get your High Holiday blue pledge card and payment in to the Office as quickly as possible. And, as I requested, make it a MEANINGFUL one. I just spoke about the need for funds to operate our congregation. We also still have our Capital Campaign in progress. To complete our construction we borrowed $500,000 from members and friends. We have paid back $300,000 of this, but still have to pay back the remaining $200,000 and pay substantial annual interest on this. And yes, if you have completed paying your original pledge, you can add to it. I checked with Rose, our campaign chairperson, and that is allowed. Let s pitch in to burn this mortgage. And look around this beautiful building and its social hall. It is available to rent for parties, for meetings, or for such special events as destination weddings, etc. Carole Nunberg should be contacted to discuss these possibilities. About 40 new members joined our JCC this year. Let me make a special appeal to them, and to our many guests and adult children of our members. This new, larger building is also in YOUR best interests. It will continue to allow us to have room for everyone. Please join the 242 members and friends who have contributed to make this happen. We don t have a mandatory Building Fund, but we need your help. Whether your gift is several hundred dollars, several thousand, or a 5 or 6 figure amount, be part of our effort to have a meaningful Jewish presence on the Island of which all Jews can be proud. In addition to your monies, we also need the volunteer help of our NEW and OLD members. Many of our members spend several dozen hours a month helping out. And many more will answer the call when asked. But as we continue to grow, we can always use more volunteer help. It could be to serve on one of our many committees. It could be for stuffing and mailing letters, preparing or serving, (and helping to clean up) at our Oneg Shabbats or lunch and dinner programs, building our Succa, or just giving a few hours for a special project. Things don t just happen. They happen because people plan and organize them, and execute the needs of the project. And doing this is usually lots of fun. We need additional help on our Program committee to plan and provide a full activities schedule for next year. And expert advice on such subjects as insurance, legal, computers and software, financial, and others is welcome. Let me or the Office know that you are willing to help, and let us know what committees, events, or activities you can volunteer for, or provide expert advice on. As you hear about, and realize, the many volunteer hours contributed by some of our members, pledge to do your part, and volunteer a fair share to continue the success of the JCC of LBI. In closing, please read our congregation Bulletins and our weekly Shabbat Reminders to keep informed on what is happening at the JCC. And periodically check our web-site. You will be amazed at all the information it has. In this Holy Day season of Repentance, Reflection, and Generosity, step up and do your part by contributing time, talent and money. Pledge to be a significant part of our NO, YOUR - JCC of LBI. Thank you for listening, and the best of everything good, especially HEALTH, in the coming year for YOU and YOUR family from ME and MINE. L Shona Tova.

Page 4 Capital Campaign Phase II Let s Burn the Mortgage We have just come off a very successful Capital Campaign for the rebuild of our synagogue. We are still in need of funds to pay back the rest of our lenders and complete some of the items needed to finish the project. So many of our members who visited the new building have been impressed with what has been accomplished and yet have not made a contribution to the Campaign. It is not too late to support our efforts. We have lots of new members who were not a part of the congregation when we made our appeal and we would be so pleased if they would consider a contribution at this time. We are forever grateful for the support of the 240 donors to the initial Campaign and would encourage them to consider adding to their gift. We are setting a goal of $200,000 for Capital Campaign: Phase II. SO LET S HELP BURN THE MORTGAGE with a gift to the JCC of LBI. You can use the form below to send in your gift. Rose Valentine, Campaign Chair YES, I WOULD LIKE TO HELP BURN THE MORTGAGE ON THE NEW JCC OF LBI BUILDING. NAME ADDRESS PHONE DONATION AMOUNT MANY THANKS

Page 5 LEGACY If you are planning to initiate or change your will or estate plan, please remember and include The Jewish Community Center of Long Beach Island (JCC of LBI) as part of your legacy. The monies can be used for a specific purpose as designated by you, or added to an endowment fund already set up to assure the ability to continue providing a full-service congregation to serve the Jewish people of the area. This legacy can be accomplished by a simple bequest in your will, by one of the allowable charitable trusts where you get an immediate tax advantage, or through life insurance. PLEASE DO IT NOW! Please check with your attorney or insurance agent. If you have any questions or need additional information, contact Don Pripstein. Thank you. ADDITIONAL PRAYERBOOKS We have purchased additional High Holiday prayer books to meet the needs of our growing congregation. Please consider donating some in memory of someone dear, or in honor of a person or event. The cost per book, which includes an attribution, is $72. 10 Page 10 BOARD MEETING SUMMARY: JULY 17, 2012 Attendees: Lynn Berkowitz, Ed Dreyfus, Harold Farin, Vivian Fitts, Basil Karp, George Katz, Eileen Levin, Richard Morgan, Carole Nunberg, Don Pripstein, Jeri Riffle, Karen Schwing, Jeff Shapiro, Mickey Sherry, Judy Smith and Rose Valentine JCC Rebuild Committee J. Shapiro reported there is $85,000 in our Rebuild bank account. We owe payments for the overflow chairs, commemorative boards, and outdoor sign. In addition, money must be put aside for the parking lot repairs. Currently there is $325,000 owed to lenders. When expected pledge money is received, we can hopefully make a distribution of $100,000 to lenders and still have money in reserve. 200 overflow chairs are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, giving us a total of 420 seats. H. Farin reported that the permanent exterior sign has been installed. Rebuild Capital Campaign R. Valentine reported that we have raised a total of $1,619,383 from all sources, which is $16,025 more than we had last month. Of this, $1,455,247 has been collected. Only 14 donors have not completed their pledges. There have been very few new donations - only some donors who raised their donation. Of the 7 lenders, 5 have forgiven at least some of the interest the interest was given back to the JCC. Corrections will be made to the dedication boards after the High Holidays. Other Topics In his finance report, J. Shapiro noted that our total income is way ahead of last year at this time mostly due to membership dues. Michael Gross, the consultant hired to review the JCC financial books and records in preparation for an audit, has started his fieldwork and has met with Marcie Deutsch and J. Shapiro. The main area for review is the Building Fund. Mr. Gross will also look at the Sisterhood finances. E. Levin reported that the Dedication and 50 th Anniversary Gala was a financial and social success. Over $9,900 was made. She also noted that we received income so far of $40,250 on pavers with expenses of about $3500. $254 was made from the Talit making class. Volunteers are needed for the Joshua Nelson concert on August 5 th. More publicity is needed for this event. J. Smith announced that E. Dreyfus, G. Katz and B. Karp are stepping down from the board. She thanked them for their years of service and expressed the hope that they continue to be actively involved in the JCC. D. Pripstein also offered his thanks. She presented the following slate of nominees: Officers D. Pripstein, President, J. Smith, Vice President, L. Berkowitz, Treasurer and K. Schwing, Secretary. Members returning: J. Shapiro and C. Nunberg. New Members: Jackie Avondoglio, Barry Goldman and Lori Shomer. There were no additional nominations made for members at large or officer positions so this will be the slate presented to the congregation for the election at the August Annual Congregation Meeting. M. Sherry announced that we passed the fire safety re-inspection. As chair of the House & Grounds Committee his main focus is on safety. ADT, our security system provider, has corrected the locking system on 2 doors and the building is now secure. The roofer will be in next week to address the leak in the Social Hall and 3 in the kitchen. Sherry Fruchterman has plans for window treatments, which should reduce the heat created by the sunlight. We still have a problem with water build up in the driveway. M Sherry recommends that we cut the gutters and redirect them to the street. A meeting was held of the Insurance Committee (J. Shapiro, R. Morgan and H. Farin) with our current insurance agency Brown & Brown. Plans are to meet with other agencies to discuss our needs as well and to contact other synagogues regarding their coverage. B. Karp and J. Smith completed performance reviews with the office staff. T. Schwait s membership report indicates we have 162 paid family members and 55 paid single members. There are 35 unpaid family members and 16 unpaid single members. C. Nunberg announced that 90 of the 120 sanctuary seats were sold and 11 were sold in the general seating area so far for the High Holidays. The Business Alliance used our JCC facility for their July meeting. L. Berkowitz reported that although the Religious School is not in session, the students have been distributing flyers and signs for the Bazaars as well as working at the Bazaar. An experience Hebrew teacher, Iris Harrari, has been hired. The 1 st Bazaar was a huge sell out success. At the next Bazaar, we will be selling donated shoes. J. Income for the dinner was $4730 less expenses of $1625 for a profit of $3105. There are still kitchen issues, particularly with the range hood, oven, stove and refrigerator condensation that require follow-up. Sisterhood is paying to have someone regularly clean the rabbi s condo. D. Pripstein presented our gift of the Menorah with the inscription to Father Steve at the High Mass on June 24 th. Father Steve and Sister Pat presented the JCC with a beautiful framed prayer at our Gala. J. Smith announced that we jointly hosted a Mah Jongg tournament with St. Francis on June 5 th. Our portion of the proceeds was $855. H. Farin shared a substitute rabbi schedule that runs through August It was agreed we will need to add more dates to the schedule. The board approved a motion to authorize payment of $250 to go to guest rabbis up to a total of $3000, including the prior 3 weeks. Planned topics for the Annual Congregation Meeting on August 12 include: retirement of our building debt, a wish list for the JCC, plans for a temporary rabbi, a building update and select committee reports. A Community Open House will be held immediately following the August Congregation Meeting on August 12 th. L. Berkowitz, R. Morgan and J. Riffle volunteered to help. The topic of a possible dress code for services was discussed. The Board agreed this was a non-issue and the topic will not be discussed further. A defibrillator will be donated to the JCC with the contingency that we have someone trained. E. Dreyfus suggested that if members make individual contributions to the local police and fire departments, that they make their membership at the JCC known. We are unable to run the High Holiday Raffle this year because our gaming permit expired.

Page 11 BOARD MEETING SUMMARY: SEPTEMBER 11, 2012 Attendees: Jackie Avondoglio, Lynn Berkowitz, Harold Farin, Barry Goldman, Eileen Levin, Richard Morgan, Carole Nunberg, Don Pripstein, Jeri Riffle, Ron Rosner, Karen Schwing, Jeff Shapiro, Mickey Shrry, Lori Shomer, Stu Snyder and Roe Valentine JCC Rebuild Committee J. Shapiro reported we have $120,000 in the building fund bank account. Anticipated spending is $6,000 in addition to $10,000 for bimah chairs, blinds, etc. A $5000 reserve is needed for correcting the parking lot. R. Valentine expects an additional $30,000 of pledges to be paid by the end of the year. Two $25,000 loans will be paid back by Sept. 24, 2012 leaving $200,000 of debt. Another $50,000 loan could be paid off by year-end. We want to keep a reserve of $25,000- $30,000. Rebuild Capital Campaign R. Valentine reported that Phase 1 is complete. We raised $1,291,983 in pledges and donations. Adding in the money from the sale of the condo, pavers, 50/50 raffles and other fundraising, we have $1,619,983. We still have $39,935 outstanding from 12 donors. The donor recognition wall in the lobby is completed with all corrections made. The goal of Phase 2 is to raise $200,000 to burn the mortgage. We have raised $2100 from 2 donors so far. Other Topics D. Pripstein welcomed Goerge Katz as Treasurer Emeritus and J. Avondoglio, B. Goldman and L. Shomer as new board members. He distributed copies of the JCC Constitution and by -laws to all. D. Pripstein sent a letter to the congregation informing them of Rabbi Jack s health and resignation. Rabbi Jack has officially retired as of September 2, Plans are to have an Oneg Shabbat in Rabbi Jack s honor in the spring when he is hopefully feeling better. The board approved a motion to name Rabbi Jack, with his permission, Rabbi Emeritus and to provide a lifetime membership to him and Ali in our congregation. H. Farin reported that we are looking for a permanent replacement for Rabbi Jack. H. Farin, R. Valentine, C. Nunberg, D. Pripstein, L. Berkowitz and Mark Chazin, who was instrumental in helping to find guest rabbis this summer, are on the search committee. J. Shapiro reported he is still waiting to get documentation for the auditor, Michael Gross, from George Katz. Mr. Gross has nearly completed his review with the exception of all bank accounts and the Sisterhood records, which he must review before issuing a comprehensive report. J. Shapiro suggested we look into the possibility of selling the condo across the street and buying a smaller one as a means to pay off our debt to lenders. This topic will be addressed at a future meeting. E. Levin reported that we had a very successful year for fundraising. Ideas being considered for fundraisers for next year include: a car raffle, a dinner and 50 s dance, a casino night and a goods and services auction. Some events require a lot of manpower. Plans are to publish a program guide to possibly include ads and to be put in real estate offices. M. Sherry reported we are having problems with both our fire and safety monitoring systems and safety monitoring systems and is working to ensure they are working correctly. He is meeting with the Long Beach Township police department to ensure we have a police presence and to discuss the possibility of having TV cameras places up and down the boulevard. He will look into getting a lock for the ark doors and continues to work on a solution to fix the driveway problem. T. Schwait reported we have 181 family and 61 single paid members as well as 30 family and 14 single unpaid members. Since the August congregation meeting, we have 12 new members. The 2013 membership directory will be printed in-house, which will be less costly. J. Avondoglio suggested we assign a buddy to new members in order to help make them feel welcome. R. Valentine will pursue this idea. C. Nunberg reported that 330 High Holiday seats have been paid for. Calls are still coming in and she expects to have about 390 seats sold. We have 426 seats available, but could rent more. Avi Green is coming to LBI for the High Holidays as our cantor. The Book of Remembrance was closed out yesterday. Thanks, from the entire board and congregation, were given to C. Nunberg for a job well done. C. Nunberg noted that the 1 st facility use will be on Oct. 27 th for a bar mitzvah. L. Berkowitz reported that the Reform congregation in Barnegat expressed interest in joining religious schools with the JCC. Given the relatively small number of students in both schools and the same teacher has been hired by both schools, this will require serious discussion. J. Riffle brought up the need for new memorial boards. She will look into the cost. D. Pripstein noted that the Art Festival was a huge success again. D. Pripstein encouraged everyone to sign up with TD Bank for the Affinity Program. We have only 18 of the needed 50 members. We have been getting potential new members as visitors to the JCC almost every day the building is open. 6 additional sanctuary chairs were delivered, a lapel mike was installed and 4 additional personal earpieces were ordered. Rabbi Jack is not doing as well today as last week. He donated a computer he used in the condo office to the JCC.

The last Saturday service will be on November 3rd and will commence again in May. During some weeks of the winter season, we do not have a minyan at our Friday evening services. If we are to be considered a full-service congregation, we must provide the opportunity for our members to attend a weekly service or to say kaddish for yahrzeits being observed during the following week. I am asking our members who remain in the area during the winter months to commit to at least one, and hopefully two, Friday eve services each month. These services begin at 7:30 pm, and only last one hour. In view of the many hours of volunteer service many of our members do for the JCC, it is not too much to ask you to commit about 2 hours a month for this mitzvah. Please consider it your obligated Jewry Duty. We need you for this Jewry Duty. Volunteer to be a Minyanaire. It s a mitzvah. NEW YAHRZEIT BOARDS We will shortly order additional Yahrzeit Board sections to accommodate more names. We plan to get 4 additional Sections and will place 2 on each side of the existing Boards on the North wall of the Sanctuary. Sponsorship of each set of 2 sections is available at a cost of $6,000. We will continue to play Mah Jongg, Bridge or Canasta on Wednesdays at the JCC from 12:30-4:00 PM. HOUSE AND GROUNDS My name is Mickey Sherry and I am in charge of " House and Grounds". Being responsible for the Temple's House and Grounds s a very diverse job with multiple responsibilities. As you would expect there are many things that need to be done to keep in pace with the Temple. Some examples are setting up chairs/tables for scheduled events, construct the Succah as well as take it down and just "routine stuff" that needs to be done. In many of these tasks it takes several people to help accomplish. I would like to put together a committee of "Helpers" that I could call when things come up. We would appreciate you volunteering to help with some of these tasks. If interested, PLEASE call me so we can discuss further. My home number is
