2 CHAPTER 80 ABASA (42 VERSES) VERSES 1-42 ب س م الل ه الر ح م ن الر ح يم MERITS ابن بابويه: بإسناده عن معاوية بن وهب عن أيب عبد اهلل )عليه السالم( قاا::»مان قا أ عاب و او و الا الكار او ان حتت جناح اهلل من اجلنان و يف ظل اهلل و امته و يف جنا ه و مل يعظم للك على اهلل ان شاء اهلل«. Ibn Babuwayh, by his chain, from Muawiya Bin Wahab, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws having said: One who recites: He frowned and turned around [80:1] (the Chapter 80) and: When the sun is Wrapped up [81:1] (Surah Al-Takweer) would be under the Wing of Allah azwj in the Gardens, and in the Shade of Allah azwj and His azwj Prestige, and in His azwj Gardens, and that is not a big thing for Allah azwj, if Allah azwj so Desires. 1 و من )خواص الق آن(: وي عن النيب )صلى اهلل عليه و آله( أنه قا::»من ق أ هذه الساو خام مان قاوه ياوم القياماة اا ا مستبك ا And from Khawas Al-Quran It has been reported from the Prophet saww having said: One who recites this Surah (Al-Takweer), would come out from his grave on the Day of Judgement smiling and joyful. و من تبها يف ق غزا: و علقها مل ي اال خريا أينرا وجه«. And one who writes it on skin of a gazelle and attaches it (as an amulet), will never see anything except for good wherever he may turn his attention to. 2 و قا: الصادق )عليه السالم(:»الا ق أها املساف يف ط يقه ي فى ما يليه يف ط يقه يف للك السف «. And Al-Sadiq asws said: When a traveller recites it in his route, it would suffice against whatsoever he may come up in the road during that journey. 3 ثواب األعمال: ( ) 2 Tafseer Al Burhan H out of 14

3 VERSES 1-10 ع ب و ا و ى }1{ He frowned and turned around [80:1] أ ن ج اء ه ا ل ع ر ى }2{ When the blind man came to him [80:2] و م ا ي د يك ل ع لىه يا ىزىى }3{ And what would make you realise, perhaps he would purify himself? [80:3] Or pay heed, so the Zikr would benefit him? [80:4] As for one who (thinks he) is needless [80:5] So you face up to him [80:6] أ و ي ىذى فا تا نا ف ع ه الذ ى }4{ أ ىما م ن اس تا غ ن }5{ ف أ ن ت ل ه ص ىدى }6{ و م ا ع ل ي ك أ ىال يا ىزىى }7{ And what is upon you if he does not purify? [80:7] و أ ىما م ن ج اء ك ي س ع ى }8{ And as to one who comes to you striving [80:8] و ه و ي ك ى }9{ 3 Tafseer Al Burhan H out of 14

4 And he is fearing [80:9] ف أ ن ت ع ن ه ا ل ىهى }10{ So you are distracting yourself away from him [80:10] الطوسي: وي عن الصادق )عليه السالم(: أهنا نزلت يف جل من بين أمية ان عند النيب )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه( ف ااء ابان أم م توم فلرا آه قذ منه و عب وجهه و مجع نفسه و أع ض بوجهه عنه فح ى اهلل سبحانه للك عنه و أن ه عليه«. Al-Tabarsy It has been reported from Al-Sadiq asws : It was Revealed regarding a man from the clan of Umayya (Usman) who was in the presence of the Prophet saww. So Ibn Am Maktoum came up. But when he (Usman) saw him as filthy, he frowned his face, and gathered (his clothing around) himself, and turned his face away from him. So Allah azwj the Glorious Spoke that about him, and Criticised him upon it. 4 و قا: الطوسي أيضا: و وي أيضا عن الصادق )عليه السالم( ]أنه[ قا:: «ان سو: اهلل )صلى اهلل عليه و آله( الا أى عبد اهلل بن أم م توم قا:: م با م با ]و اهلل[ ال يعا بين اهلل فيك أبدا And Al-Tabarsy said as well And it has been reported from Al-Sadiq asws having said: Rasool-Allah saww, when he saww saw Abdullah Bin Am Maktoum, said: Welcome! Welcome! And Allah azwj does not Admonish me saww regarding you ever! و ان يصنع به من اللطف ىت ان ي ف عن النيب )صلى اهلل عليه و آله( مما يفعل ]به[«. And he saww behaved with him with kindness to the extent that he used to stay (closer) to the Prophet saww due to how he saww tended to deal with him. 5 Background report علي بن اب اهيم قا:: نزلت يف عثران و ابان أم م تاوم و اان ابان أم م تاوم مللناا ل ساو: اهلل )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه( و اان أعرى ف اء ا ساو: اهلل )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه( و عناده أصاحابه و عثراان عناده فقدماه ساو: اهلل )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه( على عثران فعب عثران وجهه و و عنه Ali Bin Ibrahim (Tafseer Qummi) (مجمع البيان ( 664 : Tafseer Al Burhan H (مجمع البيان (. 664 : out of 14

5 He asws said: It was Revealed regarding Usman and Ibn Am Maktoum. And Ibn Am Maktoum used to be a Muezzin for the Rasool-Allah saww, and he was blind. So (one day) he came to the Rasool-Allah saww, and in his saww presence were his saww companions, and Usman was (also) in his saww presence. Rasool-Allah saww led him (to sit) higher than Usman. Usman frowned his face and turned away from him. فأنز: اهلل: ع ب و ا و ى ]يعين عثران[ أ ن جاء ه ا ل ع رى و ما ي د يك ل ع لىه يا ىزىى أي ي ون طاه ا ز يا أ و ي ىذى قا:: يذ ه سو: اهلل )صلى اهلل عليه و آله( فا تا نا ف ع ه الذ ى. So Allah azwj Revealed: He frowned and turned around [80:1] - Meaning Usman. When the blind man came to him [80:2] And what would make you realise, perhaps he would purify himself? [80:3] i.e. become clean, pure, Or pay heed [80:4]. He asws said: Rasool-Allah saww would remind him, so the Zikr would benefit him? [80:4]. مث خاطب عثران فقا:: أ ىما م ن اس تا غ ن ف أ ن ت ل ه ص ىدى قا:: أنت الا جاءك غاين تصادى لاه و فعاه: و ماا ع ل ي اك أ ىال يا ىزىاى أي ال بايل ز يا ان أو غري ز ي الا ان غنيا Then He azwj Addressed Usman, so He azwj Said: As for one who (thinks he) is needless [80:5] So you face up to him [80:6]. He asws said: You (Usman), if a rich man comes to you, you address him and appreciate him. And what is upon you if he does not purify? [80:7] - i.e., you (Usman) would not have cared whether he was purified or without purification, if he was rich. و أ ىما م ن جاء ك ي س عى يعين ابن أم م توم و ه و ي كى ف أ ن ت ع ن ه ا ل ىهى أي لهو و ال لتفت اليه. And as to one who comes to you striving [80:8] - Meaning Ibn Am Maktoum. And he is fearing [80:9] So you are distracting yourself away from him [80:10], i.e. you play around, and are not turning towards him. 6 VERSES Never! It is a Tazkira [80:11] So one who so desires can heed it [80:12] ىال ا ناىه ا ذ }11{ ف ر ن ش اء ل ه }12{ (تفسير القم ي (. 404 : Tafseer Al Burhan H 5 out of 14

6 يف ص ح ف م ىم ة }13{ (It is) in Honourable Parchments [80:13] م ف وع ة م ط ىه }14{ Lofty, clean [80:14] ب أ ي د ي س ف }15{ In the hands of Scribes [80:15] ام با }16{ Honourable, righteous [80:16] أبو عبد اهلل )عليه السالم(: قا::»يعين بالتذ والية أمري امللمنني )عليه السالم(«. (Sharaf Al Deen Al Najafi) in (the book) Taweel Al Ayaat - (From) Abu Abdullah asws having said: It means by the Tazkira, Wilayah of Amir Al- Momineen asws. حمرد بن العباس: عن احلسني بن أمحد املال ي عن حمرد بن عيسى عن يون عن خلف بن محاد عن أيب أيو ازخزاز عن أيب عبد اهلل )عليه السالم( يف قوله عا : ب أ ي د ي س ف ام با قا::»هم ا لئرة )عليهم السالم(«. Muhammad Bin Al-Abbas, from Al-Husayn Bin Ahmad Al-Maliky, from Muhammad Bin Isa, from Yunus, from Khalaf Bin Hamaad, from Abu Ayoub Al-Khazaaz, who has said: Abu Abdullah asws regarding the Words of the Exalted: In the hands of Scribes [80:15] Honourable, righteous [80:16], he asws said: They asws are the Imams asws. 7 VERSES May the human be killed, what (a lot is) his Kufr! [80:17] ق ت ل ا ل ن س ان م ا أ ف ه }17{ (تأويل اآليات (. 1 /763 :2 7 6 out of 14

7 م ن أ ي ش ي ء خ ل ق ه }18{ From which thing is his creation? [80:18] From a sperm He Created him, and Determined him [80:19] م ن ن ط ف ة خ ل ق ه فا ق ىد ه }19{ مث ى ال ىسب يل ي ىس ه }20{ Then the way, He Eased it for him [80:20] مث ى أ م ا ه ف أ قا با ه }21{ Then He would Cause him to die, so had him buried [80:21] Then when He so Desires, He would Raise him [80:22] Never! But he has yet to do what He Commanded him [80:23] مث ى ا ل ا ش اء أ ن ك ه }22{ ىال ل ىرا يا ق ض م ا أ م ه }23{ الطوسي يف )اال ت ام(: عن أمري امللمنني )عليه السالم( قا:: اللعنة قتاال و ذلك ق ت ل ا ل ن سان ما أ ف ه أي لعن ا لنسان«.»قا ا ل ه م اللىه أ ى ن يا ل ف ون أي لعنهم اهلل أ ن يلف ون فسرى Al Tabarsy in Al Ihtijaj, (It has been narrated) from Amir-Al-Momineen asws having said: May Allah Fight them! How deluded they are [9:30] i.e., may Allah azwj Curse them, how deluded they are. Allah azwj Named the Curse as Kill, and similar to that: May the human be killed, what (a lot is) his Kufr! [80:17], i.e., the human being was Cursed. 8 مث قا: علي بن اب اهيم: أخونا أمحد بن اد ي عن أمحد بن حمرد عن ابن أيب نص عن مجيال بان د ام عان أيب أساامة عان أيب جعف )عليه السالم( قا:: سألته عن قو: اهلل عز و جال: ق ت ال ا ل ن ساان ماا أ ف ا ه قاا::»نعام نزلات يف أماري املالمنني )علياه السالم( يعين بقتل م اياه 8 االحتجاج: out of 14

8 Then Ali Bin Ibrahim said, We have been informed by Ahmad Bin Idrees, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Abu Nasr, from Jameel Bin Daraaj, from Abu Usama, who has said: I asked Abu Ja far asws about the Words of Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic: May the human be killed, what (a lot is) his Kufr! [80:17], he asws said: Yes, it was Revealed regarding Amir-Al-Momineen asws, meaning your killing him asws. مث نسب أمري امللمنني )عليه السالم( فنسب خلقه و ما أ مه اهلل به فقا:: م ن أ ي ش ايء خ ل ق اه مان طيناة ا لنبيااء خلقاه فقاد ه للخري مث ى ال ىسب يل ي ىس ه يعين سبيل اهلدى مث أما ه ميتة ا لنبياء مث ى ا لا شاء أ ن ك ه «. Then He azwj Linked Amir Al Momineen asws, So He azwj Linked his asws creation and what Allah azwj had Honoured him asws with, so He azwj Said: From which thing is his creation? [80:18] from the essence of the Prophets as. He azwj Created him asws, and Determined him [80:19], for the good, Then the way, He Eased it for him [80:20] meaning the way of the Guidance. Then He would Cause him to die [80:21] death of the Prophets as, Then when He so Desires, He would Raise him [80:22]. قلت: ما قوله: ا لا شاء أ ن ك ه قا::»مي ث بعد قتله يف ال جعة فيقضي ما أم ه«. I said, What (is the meaning of) His azwj Words: Then when He so Desires, He would Raise him [80:22]? He asws said: He would remain (in the earth) during the Return, after his asws killing, so he asws would fulfil what he asws had been Commanded with 9 VERSE 24 Then let the human being look at his food (intake) [80:24] فا ل يا ن ظ ا ل ن س ان ا ط ع ام ه }24{ ع ىد م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ مح د ب ن حم ىرد ب ن خ ال د ع ن أ ب يه ع ىرن ل ه ع ن ز ي اد ال ىكا ىحام ع ان أ يب ج ع ف ا ( علياه الساالم ) يف قا او : اللىا ه ع ى ز و ج ىل فا ل يا ن ظ ا ل ن سان ا ط عام ه ق ا: قا ل ت م ا ط ع ام ه ق ا: ع ل ر ه الىذ ي ي أ خ ذ ه ع ىرن ي أ خ ذ ه. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from the one who mentioned it, from Zayd Al Shahaam, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja far asws regarding the Words of Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic: Then let the human being look at his food (intake) [80:24]. 9 VERSES أ نىا ص ب با ن ا ال ر اء ص ب ا }25{ Surely, We Pour the water with (abundant) pouring [80:25] مث ى ش ق ق ن ا ا ل ض ش ق ا }26{ Then We Cleave the earth, with a cleaving [80:26] ف أ نا ب تا ن ا ف يه ا ب ا }27{ So We Grow grain therein [80:27] و ع ن ب ا و ق ض ب ا }28{ And grapes and green fodder [80:28] و ز يا ت ون ا و ن ال }29{ And olive and palm [80:29] و د ائ ق غ ل ب ا }30{ And thick foliaged gardens [80:30] و ف ا ه ة و أ ب ا }31{ And fruits and grass [80:31] م ت اع ا ل م و ل نا ع ام م }32{ Being a provision for you and for your cattle [80:32] حمرااد باان يعقااو : عاان علااي باان اباا اهيم عاان هااا ون باان مساالم عاان مسااعد باان زياااد عاان أيب عبااد اهلل )عليااه السااالم( قااا::»الفا هة مائة و عك ون لونا سيدها ال مان«. Muhammad Bin Yaqoub, from Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Haroun Bin Muslim, from Mas adat Bin Ziyad, who has said: 9 out of 14

10 Abu Abdullah asws having said: The fruits are of one hundred and twenty colours (types). Their chief is the pomegranate. 11 قا: املفيد يف )ا شاده(: وي أن أبا ب سالل عان قاو: اهلل عاا : و فا ه اة و أ با ا فلام يعا ب معا ن ا ل يف القا آن و قاا:: أي مساء ظلين أم أي أ ض قلين أم يف أصنع ان قلت يف تا اهلل مبا ال أعلم أما الفا هة فنع فها و أما ا ل فاهلل أعلم به Al Mufeed said in (his book) Irshaad It is reported that Abu Bakr was asked about the Words of Allah azwj the Exalted: And fruits and grass [80:31], but he did not recognise the meaning of the term Al Abb (grass) in the Quran, and he said, Which sky would shade men, or which earth would hold me down, or what would I do if I were to say regarding the Book of Allah azwj what I do not know? As for the fruits, so we recognise these, and as for the Abb, Allah azwj is more Knowing with it. فبلغ أمري امللمنني )عليه السالم( مقاله يف للك فقا::»يا سبحان اهلل! أما علم أن ا ل هو ال أل و امل عى So that reached Amir Al Momineen asws, what he has said regarding that, and he asws said: O Glory be to Allah azwj! And he does not know that the Abb, it is the feeding and the pasturage? و أن قوله: و فا ه ة و أ ب ا اعتداد من اهلل عا بإنعامه علاى خلقاه مباا غاذاهم باه و خلقاه هلام و لنعاامهم مماا حتياا باه أنفساهم و قوم به أجسادهم«. And His azwj Words: And fruits and grass [80:31] are an enumeration from Allah azwj the Exalted of His azwj Bounties upon His azwj creatures with what He azwj has Provided them with, and Created it for them, and for their cattle from what their souls can be revived with and their bodies can be strengthened with. 12 VERSES So when the deafening blast comes [80:33] ف إ ل ا ج اء ال ىصا ىخة }33{ يا و م ي ف ال ر ء م ن أ خ يه }34{ (It would be) a Day the person will flee from his own brother [80:34] (الكافي ( 2 /352 : اإلراا:: out of 14

11 و أ م ه و أ ب يه }35{ And his mother, and his father [80:35] و ص ا ب ت ه و ب ن يه }36{ And his spouse and his son [80:36] ل ل ام ئ م نا ه م يا و م ل ذ ش أ ن يا غ ن يه }37{ For every person from them on that Day, would be a concern occupying him [80:37] ابن بابويه قا:: دثنا أبو احلسن حمرد بن عر و بن علي بن عباد اهلل البصا ي قاا:: ادثنا أباو عباد اهلل حمراد بان عباد اهلل بان أمحد بن جبلة الواعظ قا:: دثنا أبو القاسم عبد اهلل بن أمحد بن عام الطائي قا:: دثنا أيب قا:: ادثنا علاي بان موساى ال ا )عليه السالم( قا:: دثنا أيب موسى بن جعف قا:: دثنا أيب جعف بن حمرد قاا:: ادثنا أيب حمراد بان علاي قاا:: دثنا أيب علي بن احلسني قاا:: ادثنا أيب احلساني بان علاي )علايهم الساالم( قاا:: «اان علاي بان أيب طالاب )علياه الساالم( بال وفة يف اجلامع الا قام اليه جل من أهل الكام- و ل احلديث ا أن قا: فيه- و قام جل فسأله و عنته و قا:: يا أمري امللمنني أخونا عن قاو: اهلل عاز و جال: يا او م ي ف ا ال ر ا ء م ان أ خ ياه و أ م اه و أ ب ياه و صاا ب ت ه و ب ن ياه ]ل ال ام ا ئ م انا ه م يا و م ل اذ ش اأ ن يا غ ن يه من هم [ Ibn Babuwayh said, It has been narrated to us by Abu Al-Hassan Muhammad Bin Amro Bin Ali Bin Abdullah l Basry, from Abu Abdullah Muhammad Bin Abdullah Bin Ahmad Bin Jabalat Al-Waiz, from Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah Bin Ahmad Bin Amir Al-Ta iy, from his father who said: It was narrated to me by Ali asws Bin Musa Al-Reza asws that: It was narrated to me by my asws father asws Musa asws Bin Ja far asws, from his asws father asws Ja far asws Bin Muhammad asws, from his asws father asws Muhammad asws Bin Ali asws, from his asws father asws Ali asws Bin Al-Husayn asws, from his asws father Al-Husayn asws Bin Ali asws having said: Ali asws Bin Abu Talib asws was at Al-Kufa in a gathering, when a man from the people of Syria stood up and asked him asws, O Amir-al-Momineen asws, inform us about the Words of Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic: (It would be) a Day the person will flee from his own brother [80:34] And his mother, and his father [80:35] And his spouse and his son [80:36] For every person from them on that Day, would be a concern occupying him [80:37], who are they? فقا:: هابيل يف من قابيل و الذي يف من أمه موسى و الاذي يفا مان أبياه ابا اهيم و الاذي يفا مان صاا بته لاو و الاذي يف من ابنه نوح يف من ابنه نعان«. So he asws said: Habeel as will flee from Qabeel la ; and the one who will flee from his mother is Musa as ; and the one who will flee from his father is Ibrahim as ; and the one 11 out of 14

12 who will flee from his spouse is Lut as ; and the one who will flee from his son is Noah as, fleeing from his as son Kanaan. 13 يف ت اا ازخ ص اا: ع ان احل س اني ب ان ع ل اي ع ل ي اه ال ىساال م ق اا: : اان ع ل اي ب ان أ يب ط ال اب ع ل ي اه ال ىساال م ب ال وف اة يف اجل اام ع ا ل ج ااء ا ل ي ا ه ج ل م ن أ ه ل ال ىكام ف س أ ل ه ع ن م س ائ ل و ان ف ير ا س أ ل ه أ ن ق ا: ل ه : أ خ او ن ع ان قا او : اللىاه ا ع اا :»يا او م ي ف ا ال ر ا ء م ان أ خ ياه «و ل م ث ل م ا يف ع ي ون ا ل خ ب ا س و اء ا ىال أ نىه ل ي ف يه يا ع ين ا ل ال ر يب ال ال و ال د In the book (Al Khisal), From Al Husayn Bin Ali asws having said: Ali Bin Abu Talib asws was at Al Kufa in the central Masjid, when a man from the people of Syria came over to him asws. He asked him certain questioned, and among what he asked was that he said to him asws, Inform me about the Words of the Exalted: (It would be) a Day the person will flee from his own brother [80:34] and he mentioned similar to what is in (the book) Uyoon Al Akhbar, same (as the Hadeeth above), except that there isn t in it, that the meaning of the father is the adopted, not the (biological) father. ه اللىه : ا ى ن ا ي ف م وس ى م ن أ م ه خ ك ي ة أ ن ي ون ق ىص ا با ا اه يم ف ير ا و ج اب ع ل ي اه م ان ق ه اا و و با ع د ه ق ا: م ص ن ف ه ذ ا ال ت ا مح ا ى ن ا ي ف م ن ا ل ك ال م ن ا ل ال و ال د و ه و ال ر يب ال ر ك ا خ And after it, the author of this book says, But rather Musa as would flee from his as mother, fearing that he as may have been deficient in what is Obligated upon him as from her rights, and Ibrahim as, rather, would flee from the adopted father, the Polytheist, not from the father, the biological one and he is Tarukh as. 14 )بساتان الاواعظني(: عان ساو: اهلل )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه( أناه قاا: لاه بعاض أهلاه ياا ساو: اهلل هال ياذ ال جال ياوم القياماة محيره (The book) Bustaan Al-Waizeen From Rasool-Allah saww, one of his saww Family members said to him saww, O Rasool- Allah saww! Will the man remember his intimate ones on the Day of Judgement? فقاا: )صالى اهلل علياه و آلاه(:»ثالثاة ماواطن ال ياذ أ اد أ ادا: عناد امليازان اىت ينظا ىت ينظ أ جيوزه أم ال و عند الصحف ىت ينظ بيرينه يأخذ الصحف أم بكراله أ يثقال ميزاناه أم ياف و عناد الصا ا So he saww said: There are three places at which no one would remember anyone At the Scale (Al-Mizaan), until he looks whether his Scale is heavy or light; and at the Bridge (Al-Siraat) until he looks to see whether he has been Permitted across it or not; and at the (presentation of the) book, until he looks to see whether he has taken in his right hand or in his left hand. 13 فهاذه ثالثاة ماواطن ال ياذ فيهاا أ اد محيراه و ال بيباه و ال ق يباه و ال صاديقه و ال بنياه و ال والدياه و للاك قاو: اهلل عاا : ل ل ام ئ م نا ه م يا و م ل ذ ش أ ن يا غ ن يه مكغو: بنفسه عن غريه من شد ما ي ى من ا لهوا: العظام So these are the three places at which no one would remember his intimate one, or his beloved, or his relative, or his friend, or his son, or his parents; and these are the Words of Allah azwj the Exalted: For every person from them on that Day, would be a concern occupying him [80:37], being busy with himself, apart from others due to the intensity of what he will be seeing from the great horrors. نسأ: اهلل عا أن يسهلها لنا ب محته و يهوهنا علينا ب أفته و لطفه«.
