Summaries TRY AGAIN The poem Try Again has been written by the poet William Edward Hickson. In this poem he gives us a universal message of success-try Again. The very idea of the poem is a road to success. In this 23 lined poem, he uses 8 times phrase Try Again, which shows his strong belief in this philosophy. In this poem, he describes an important thing we should pay attention to. No matter if we lost at first, try again. If we work hard without the fear of failure, we shall be successful after some tries. And then failure should never be a source of discouragement as it gives us new directions and ways towards success. Neither trying again and again is an insult nor the failure. It is extremely well said: Ever tried. Ever failed No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better The poet does not believe in giving up in case of failure. Failure is a key to success, a key to open the doors that take us towards the success from different other ways. And giving up is against the dignity of Man, if he loses heart he can never succeed. The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success. In the same way. poet says we have to work hard and we, should be firm in our struggles that will really help us to reach to the heights. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. We should think that if other people can do a thing why we cannot. THE RAIN Rains are Mix blessings The poem The Rain has been written by the poet W.H.Davies. The poet loves to write about the nature and he is the one who does not ignore the violence of human rights. So he also highlights the troubles faced by the poor people in the society. In this poem, he describes two scenes, during the rain and after the rain. In the first scene he describes the leaves which are drinking water and giving a pleasant and melodious sound. He says that the upper leaves get the water drops firstly and then droplets reach the lower leaves. It is the Page 8

9 general idea explained by the poet, the hidden fact is that the rain symbolizes the injustice that is done with the poor people. The poor people suffer due to the violence of their rights. The symbolic idea says that it's a bitter reality that the rich people get all the benefits and poor people get nothing. And in case they find something that's of no use. In the second scene, he says that the sun comes out and water droplets get filled with the sunlight and shines. The poet wishes the sun to shine brighter. Here, in this scene, Sun is symbolized as the sign of equality and it gives light to all and lightens everything covered with darkness. After the rain cometh the pleasant weather In this way, poet has not only described the beauty of nature but also raised an important issue found in our society by using symbolism. He has also used the metaphors to describe his thoughts. The poet hopes for equality and peace along with great beauty of the nature. Rain shows my spirit Water is my soul" PEACE This poem has been written by Dr. Hartmann. She talks about the power and purpose of the wind. She tells us the lesson that nature teaches us through the wind. The poetess describes that apparently, the wind seems a monster of destruction. It destroys everything around us. It goes on moving from place to place ruining all man's work. On the other hand, the poetess tells us that destruction is not the real purpose of the wind. The wind is for the sake of revival and birth. It brings us comfort and unending peace. Its pleasant whispering brings stillness and calmness for us. But all of that is not its core its center is in truth eternal stillness. The poetess uses figurative language to describe the wind. She personifies the wind as a roaring monster. The poetess uses imagery of different types. Roaring and gentle whisper are examples of auditory imagery. Bright blue skies and broken flying are the examples of visual imagery. Towards the end of the poem we get to know that wind is constrictive and not destructive. The wind brings us peace not anarchy. We hear melodious whispers of the wind and comfort ourselves. Page 9
