SESSION UPDATES Session Notes: The Session met this week. The church is thankful to Able Roofing (John and Diane Haggerty) for the great work on the roofs of the manse and barbecue shelter plus the painting of the sanctuary and education wings. Quite an improvement! Rev. Amo will begin a Bible Study in the near future. The Elders heard a report from the Mission Study Team, approved a request for a Woman s Bible Group to use the facility, agreed to participate in the Locust Fall Festival on October 31, planned a picnic activity for October 1, reviewed Homecoming plans, discussed the need for additional tithes or fundraising to help keep the bills paid, outdoor worship will be September 17 th this year; we will celebrate Communion on September 3. UPCOMING SERMON SERIES Beginning next week, Rev. Evan Amo will be preaching a series of sermons on the Kingdom of God. Come and hear a fresh perspective on the old, old story! HOMECOMING SAVE THE DATE Homecoming! Don t forget to mark your calendar for October 15. That is Homecoming Sunday at Locust Presbyterian. Lou Pfeiffer will come and deliver the homecoming message as we celebrate our 134 th anniversary. Invite friends and family! SPECIAL SERVICE 500 years of Reformation! The Presbyterian Churches of Stanly County will hear a series of sermons in October in preparation for our celebration of the 500 th anniversary of Martin Luther s nailing the 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenburg Church. For us, this is the birthday of the Protestant Church. On Sunday, October 29, all PC(USA) churches in Stanly County (Badin, Norwood, Locust and 1 st Albemarle) will be worshipping together at First Presbyterian in Albemarle in celebration of this anniversary. Rev. Amo will be preaching and our choirs will join together in song. We will not have worship in Locust that Sunday. CHRISTMAS SHOEBOXES Now is the time to start collecting school supplies for Samaritan's Purse Shoe Boxes!!! Thank you to Mary Ann and Lee Smith for keeping this organized for us!!! MISSION STUDY UPDATE The committee is working very hard to make the survey user friendly. We will be using survey monkey for online completion. Paper copies will also be available to those that desire them. We will be rolling out the survey on September 10.

3 *Affirmation of Faith: (from A Declaration of Faith)*: rning Jesus Prayers Christ overthrew evil powers that enslaved and degraded people, yet he made no use of power to protect himself. He healed those who were sick in body and mind, yet he did not avoid pain and suffering for himself. He commanded his followers to place loyalty to him above loyalty to family and country, yet he lived among them as a servant. Jesus taught with authority, challenging many time-honored customs and ideas, yet he submitted to humiliation and death without a word on his own behalf. He forgave sinners, yet he was counted among sinners. We recognize the work of God in Jesus' power and authority. He did what only God can do. We also recognize the work of God in Jesus' lowliness. When he lived as a servant and went humbly to his death the greatness that belongs only to God was manifest. The praise song will be Majesty and the anthem will be People Like Us. The first songs encourage us to approach worship ready to praise God because of all of the blessings we have received. Then offertory is a fast, fun song which reminds us that as people of God, we do not face this life alone. Please sing out on our worship songs today! NEWS FROM THE CHOIR The adult choir will begin regular Wednesday night practices on September 6 at 7:00 PM. We will introduce this year s Christmas Cantata and prepare music for the rest of September and October. This is a perfect time for new folks to join the choir. Plan to come directly after the Wonderful Wednesday meal. CYMC 2017 KICKOFF Lights, Camera, Action: "A Living Faith" Bellefonte Presbyterian Church, 8868 Rocky River Road, Harrisburg Charlotte Youth Ministry Consortium Parent/Youth Movie Night & Information Session at Bellefonte PC on Saturday, September 16th at 7:00 pm. Movie will be "Queen of Katwe". Popcorn, drinks and candy will be provided. Door prize for the church with the largest number of youth and parents in attendance. WEDNESDAY MEAL TEAMS Wonderful Wednesday meals begin next week! Robin Hill will be the cook team leader for the first Wednesday and Cindy Fish will lead the 3 rd Wednesday night team. Contina Salyer and the Girl Scout troop will pick up the months that have a 5 th Wednesday night in them. These church dinners will be held on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month and are primarily for those who participate in the life of our church, although all are welcome. Another great place to stay up to date is the church Facebook page. ORGAN RECITAL AT MATTHEWS PC Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 W. John Street, Matthews Matthews Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce the completion of a 38 rank, 3 manual pipe organ, built by Garland Pipe Organs, Inc. based in Ft. Worth, TX. This is the first pipe organ built in our area by builder, Dan Garland, well regarded throughout the southwest for his pipe organs. The building of the organ was made possible by a generous posthumous gift from a lifelong member of the church in memory his mother. A Dedicatory Organ Recital will take place on September 29th at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary with Patrick A. Scott as the Guest Organ Recitalist. An active recitalist and accompanist, Dr. Scott has appeared in concert and with choirs throughout the United States, as well as in Europe. He has a local connection to Charlotte, having served as Music Associate and Organist of Myers Park United Methodist Church. We hope that this organ will fill our church and community with uplifting music offered to the glory of God.
