2 Greetings from Pastor Jennifer... As I sit next to Roger and Judy Hoover in Hoover Auditorium at Lakeside, OH for Annual Conference, I feel my spirit rejoice in our upcoming partnership for ministry in Brookville. There is sadness in transition that cannot and should not be ignored. It is right and good to grieve because it is a sign of our love in relationship. I am full of joy at the call of God into this new relationship with you. Throughout this transition, well meaning friends and colleagues ask me about the church, the community, the demographics, and/or my feelings. These are all good strategic questions, but I'm not called to a church; I'm called to people. God has been calling me to the people of Brookville. Perhaps that is why I love the name of our church so much: Community. Our world longs for community. Our world longs for genuine relationships. One of the ways I hope to develop our relationship is through home visits. I would like to have the opportunity to sit and get to know your family outside the hustle and bustle of worship and meetings. If you have not yet signed up with the Hospitality team, please make it a point to sign up. I am looking forward to the opportunity to hear your story. As we get to know one another, I feel so blessed that you are welcoming me into your community. As we enter into ministry together I am proud that what we will be inviting people into isn't a church, but Community, God's Community. Though we are just now meeting, we have always been united in Christ. We are God's people, God's community, and I am blessed to be your pastor. Blessings & Peace, Pastor Jennifer Burns Pastor Jennifer s Home Visits Pastor Jennifer would like to visit with each of you in your homes during the next couple months. If you are not yet signed up for a visit you will have another opportunity this Sunday. If you are not able to be at church this Sunday you may call the church office and schedule your visit. The purpose of these Home Visits is to get to know the pastor and for the pastor to get to know you and the church. WELCOME TO COMMUNITY UMC PASTOR JENNIFER, JOHN & MICAH Pastor Jennifer Burns has begun her ministry at Brookville Community Church on June 28, 2015, per her appointment by Bishop Palmer. She has a heart for the marginalized and believes in the importance of ministry with the poor. How: RSVP by July 5th to Pastor Jennifer Burns pastorjhb@gmail.com Trustees Report on Church Parsonage: A three week long project has come to an end thanks to several people who worked very hard to make this happen. A new kitchen was installed with all new cabinets, counter tops, new microwave and new garbage disposal. A new front door was installed and painted, along with new carpet in the living room, dining room, family room and hallway. Bedroom carpets were professionally cleaned. A new medicine cabinet was installed in the master bathroom, and new blinds installed in the family room and master bedroom. A special thanks to Roger and Judy Hoover for their countless hours of work and driving to pick up parts to do the kitchen remodel. Thanks to Harold Liming for his work on installing all of the door hardware on the cabinets and assisting with the new front door. Thanks to Thelma Denlinger, Becky Vaughn and her husband and daughter, and the crew of ladies for cleaning the house after all of the work was done. The parsonage looks better than it has for a long time thanks to the efforts of all these people. Pastor Jennifer and her family were very pleased with the house when they arrived in town on Sunday, June 21. And last but not least, thanks to Pastor Therese for being so cooperative in allowing us to tear up her kitchen before she had officially moved out, and for Karen Osswald who graciously allowed Therese to move in with her while this work was being done. 8 Report on Annual Conference The 46 th session of Annual Conference for West Ohio was convened on Sunday June 7 th at Lakeside, Ohio. In attendance representing Community was voting delegate Roger Hoover accompanied by wife Judy. During the three day session, the members of the West Ohio Annual Conference tended to the business of the annual conference, voted on recommendations to be sent to General Conference, listened to reports, elected delegates to General and Jurisdictional Conference to be held in 2016, worshipped, sang and celebrated the mission and ministry of our West Ohio United Methodist congregations. Highlights of note for the week included the Celebration of Ministry Service, Memorial Service, Retirement Service and reaching the $3.5 million dollar goal for Imagine No Malaria. Business: The business of the church was conducted under the leadership of Bishop Palmer as both lay and clergy delegates voted and discussed many items. There were eleven recommendations before the conference to be discussed and voted on. These included discussions on property, conference offices, investments for the conference and discussions of marriage and ordination eligibility. Lively and passionate discussions were heard on all topics. More information is available on the West Ohio website. Election of delegates was held for both General and Jurisdictional Conference. Jurisdictional Conference is regional and primarily elects and appoints Bishops. General Conference is the global gathering of the UMC which directs the church for the next four years. Many rounds of voting resulted in the final choices of who would represent the conference next year. Awards were presented to congregations and individuals in recognition of a wide variety of ministries and achievements. Evangelism, missionary service, Lay Leadership, and Hispanic ministry training were but a few awards celebrated. Episcopal address: Bishop Palmer addressed the gathering with his thoughts on the world and challenged the church to engage in bold new ideas this year. He is an excellent speaker that moves each of the delegates to consider their faith and their actions. Pictures from the 46th Annual Conference for West Ohio Bishop Palmer Imagine No Malaria Booth Fun Family Games Worship: Each day offered an opportunity to share in worship with the delegates and visitors of the conference. All worship opportunities are moving, inspirational and challenging as the leaders used this year s theme of brokenness to lead us through the worship services. Excellent music, dancing and singing is shared. Baptism Prayer Time Teaching: This year s teaching preacher, Dr. Thomas Long, looked at the four gospels in a thought provoking, interesting and humorous address. His teaching reminded us that our Gospels present a variety of ways that people experience God. Other Activities: There was long list of activities for the families and visitors to annual conference to choose from which to participate including Bible School, a 5k run, coffee with the Bishop s wife, and more other opportunities than we can list. Business concluded at nearly 8PM on Wednesday. The conference again was quite successful. Worship with Dance
