1 DOCUMENT 14 D14.1 PCMF REPORT TO THE 22 ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY HELD AT PCEA ST. ANDREW S CHURCH NAIROBI REGION, MILIMANI NORTH PRESBYTERY A. INTRODUCTION (PREAMBLE) The PCMF with the help of God has continued to be a united Christian force of men following the General Assembly theme Let us all arise and build (Nehemiah 2:18b). However PCMF in an endeavor to fulfill their mandate within the operations of the eight core programmes in the parishes have been guided by the department sub theme on leadership, SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP WITH GODLY STANDARDS (Giving direction to the family Church and the Nation). Scripture taken from last words of Prophet Samuel, As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray you. And I will tech you the way that is good and right (1 Samuel 12:23) B. PCMF STRATEGIC DIRECTION Vision: Spiritual maturity of man and service to the glory of God. Mission: To be a Men s United Christian force in faith, witness and service to Jesus Christ and humanity. Core values: Integrity Faithfulness Commitment to Christian witness Humility Passion Zeal Team work Motto: Never be lacking in zeal, but keep the spiritual fervor serving the Lord with a heart full of devotion (Romans 12:11) Signature: Somewhere working for the Lord C.OBJECTIVES GIVING STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS FOR OPERATIONS The PCMF for the year under review anchored the operation in the following objectives i. The fellowship worked with unity in faith serving God at all levels by participating in Church activities as individuals and in fellowship for community work and the nation.

2 D14.2 ii. Endeavored to encourage members to discern through scriptures in the fellowship dinners and breakfasts their positive Christian contributions. iii. Worked to strengthen and enrich the family through mutual support of family welfare to nurture spiritual growth for the family to function as God intended. There has been collaborations with the women, youth and children ministries. iv. Some Parishes endeavored to have forums to encourage a sense of responsibility and service towards others through discussion forums on issues affecting Christian life and service, giving prophetic, social, spiritual and economic assistance. v. Proactive in the physical development and maintenance of Church facilities. vi. Involvement in mission and evangelistic forums. MEETINGS In the year under review PCMF National Office held two Executive meeting i)29 th March, 2017 Handing and taking over ii) 26 th July, 2017 Transition in restructuring OFFICIALS Director -Rev. Gathuru - Central Region Patron - Very Rev. Dr. Jesse Kamau Chaplain - Rev. Samuel Murigu ANNUAL GENERAL CONFERENCE (2017) The conference was held in Central Region Ngecha Presbytery within Jumuia Conference and County Home Limuru from 15 th to 18 th February, The conference was officially opened by the Moderator of 21 st G.A. Rt. Rev. Julius G. Mwamba and among the key facilitators were the Secretary General Rev. Peter Kaniah and Deputy Secretary General Rev. Alfred M. Kanga who shared insights on men with Godly leadership standards. Other facilitators included: i)very Rev. Dr. Jesse Kamau (Patron) - Bible Exposition and reflections ii)rev. Dr. H. Muraya - Man and Cultural Practices (Mburi cia Kiama - a research) iii)rev. Robert Waihenya - Role of Man in Mission

3 D14.3 iv)rev. Wilson Macharia - Man and Children Ministry v)rev. Simon Githiora - YPCMF/ Role of Youth This conference was a great success, recording the highest turn up of 210 delegates of which 40 were presbytery chaplains and 5 international delegates from Uganda, Ghana and UK. On the official opening, the Deputy Governor Kiambu County- Hon. Githinji gave good will message from the county office and on his behalf as a PCMF outstanding member. The conference launched the theme of the year which resonated with the nations electioneering period focusing on leadership with Godly standards. These forums of engagement served as an encouragement of men to realize their God given responsibilities and in response men have been proactive in family Church and the Nation as stewards and pacesetters. This has also strengthened implementation of church resolutions and fellowship programs through individual, corporate and representative responsibilities.

5 OTHER ENGAGEMENTS WITHIN THE YEAR D14.5 i) National Level Since the Nation was in the heart of General Elections which concluded with a repeat election, the Director attended: Multi- sectoral forums in Ufungamano 21 st 23 rd March,2017 ( peace and cohesion towards elections). National prayer day organized by Woman s Guild in Kasarani Stadium. 17 th Edition of Parliament day of prayer in Safari Park on 25 th May, ii)ecumenical Partnerships Attended the NCCK Consultative meetings in Jumuia Limuru. Held dialogue meetings with the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary of All African Conference of Churches (AACC) on the African Agenda and the role of Men. PAN- AFRICAN PRESBYTERIAN MEN FELLOWSHIP The PCMF Director as president of Pan African Presbyterian Men Fellowship (PAPMF) was invited to the Men s Christian Guild (MCG) in the uniting Presbyterian Church in southern Africa 17 th Conference held in the Presbytery of Mthatha from 7 th 10 th September This was guided by the theme Discipleship, Character of an Evangelist. On Saturday 9 th, the Executive meeting for PAPMF to plan ahead of 2018 Conference was held. OPERATION WITH 8 CORES PROGRAMS All Parishes have been active with new approaches and innovation on the eight core programs as reflected in sampled reports from Parishes after restructuring. This has given rise in spiritual growth and commitment and participation of men in Church activities. More analytical statistical data is given in presbytery reports. 1.SPIRITUAL PROGRAMMES/ DISCIPLESHIP This involved men in recruitment for admission, dedication and commissioning Grounds and opportunities of recruitment included seminars, prayer breakfast, dinners, Retreats and home visits, congregational and parish fellowships Some Parishes organized Video shows and time for songs like St. Andrews and Kariobangi South. 2.MAN AND HEALTH Through the year under review men organized seminars related to health, medical checkup. Sports and games: some Parishes have initiated physical fitness facilities like aerobics. Nutrition seminars Health hikes

6 D MENTORSHIP OF BOY/GIRL CHILD Men organized seminars/retreats Seminars for parents of Teenagers. Continued facilitation of the Sunday feeding (Uji) programs in congregations. Collaboration with Youth and Woman s Guild Rite of Passage( ROP) with pre and post seminars/coaching of Boys & Girls. Most parishes organized a common centre, while some presbyteries upheld their team work in one centre to be cost effective like Milimani North. Nairobi North through the parishes like Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa farmers have continued to set resourceful model in mentorship involving parents and the mentees under the ROPES program. 4. MAN AND EDUCATION Parishes have encouraged man to take TEE Program, BSF and Man Enough series in urban centres. Bible study groups Information Technology ICT( Local computer classes) Dispute and Conflict Resolution St. Andrews Study of key books (i.e. Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren) (PCMF Naivasha), Real Fatherhood in a Fatherless Generation. This continues to awaken a reading culture in men. 5. ENVIRONMENT STEWARDSHIP Planting of trees continued during the rains and when there was a funeral. Nairobi West Parish planted trees in Nairobi West Prison during their visit. With the ban of nylon papers, men have embarked on educating on reduce reuse, recycle of the Bio- degradable materials. Renewable and alternative source of energy; through Biogas, and filtering dirty water for domestic use. 6. FAMILY LIFE Activities included: Couple seminars and Retreats Pre and post marriage coaching. Dinners with a message Mass weddings supported in the Parishes. The highest number registered in PCEA Kitengela 7. ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT The PCMF economic empowerment pillar has been supported through formal establishment of Sacco s and Housing Finance. Noting the struggles in business management new initiatives have been started. a) Entrepreneurship Training Programme Model PCEA St. Andrews with Semps Organization has started a sixteen week training program.

7 D14.7 b) Biblical Financial Study that applies to financial challenges this has been inspirational providing hope and new inter- relations. In St. Andrews the study has a Curriculum for the course provided by crown financial ministries through Financial Counseling Ltd. 8. DRUGS AND ALCOHOL ABUSE -Within the year under review this included Proactive Education on the enemy within in men fellowships and schools. Gathering addicts for seminars Public awareness campaign Seminars for youth, families. MISSON WEEK The PCMF had a successful Mission week from 30 th October 5 th November 2017 observed at congregational level. Where possible Parish Minister launched the week and members followed the week programme from the PCMF National Office. Many congregations climaxed with a fundraiser to support the work of the Church and the men programs. Some Parishes climaxed with colorful, well organized Commissioning like PCEA Zimmerman. All monies collected were to be managed within the congregational level after restructuring. HOUSE PROJECT The PCMF National office has continued to manage Five star Meadows House No. 5 in Kiambu Road bought with the proceeds from Milele Karen after loaning the money to Presbyterian Foundation. The house was given a face lift and in February and March 2017 and got a new prospective tenant in July at a monthly rate of Ksh. 150,000 inclusive of service charge. ACHIEVEMENTS More men have their marriages registered and blessed in church with the support from parish sessions. High transition of men in leadership, as ordained elders and deacons. Prayer breakfasts and meetings were successful within the year of elections. Increase in the number of seminars retreats compared to the past year. Continued support of physical development inclusive of landscaping, construction of churches and purchase of land for church expansion. Sunday school feeding program has been embraced in congregations and also PCMF is giving maximum support on the children s play corner facilities. Increased support, mentorship and commissioning of YPCMF (Young Presbyterian Church Men Fellowship ). Continued support of prisons ministry in partnership with Theological Education by Extension (TEE) ADMISSIONS & DEDICATIONS/COMMISSIONG From data analysis in the office through sales of materials year 2017 recorded. Admission- over 3181 men

8 Dedication 3,500 men D14.8 Commissioning 1675 men DEATHS Through the written condolences the year recorded 152 deaths. Within the year under review the Very Rev. Dr John G. Gatu first patron, patriarch of PCMF rested and was honorably buried in his Karen home. MISSION WORK Some parishes and presbyteries like Rungiri and Kiambu have been involved in Nendeni work through visits, recruitment of men and construction of churches, in their assigned mission areas. PCMF supported the Annual Mission to Uganda in June 2017 organised by the Mission Board. CHALLENGES -Communication Gaps between, Parish, Presbytery and National office after the role presbytery chaplains and presbyterial leaders stopped with restructuring. -Competition in the rite of passage program and recruitment of men due to wake of Traditional Cultural Movements. -Low emotional intelligence resulting in domestic violence and Homicides during conflicts. -Huge balances left in the National office after Restructuring. LOOKING FORWARD i). Focus on structured capacity building through curriculum development and initiate Trainers of Trainers Program ( TOT) ii)engage PCMF on environmental stewardship through renewable and alternative sources of energy. iii)send ten delegates in the 2 nd Continental Conference scheduled for June 13 th -16 th, 2018 in South Africa under Pan African Presbyterian Men Fellowship (PAPMF). iv) Develop a clear communication structure to the parishes through ICT. v)collaboration and partnership with PCEA St. Andrew s Church in the Conflict, Dispute Management Training to strengthen the family pillar. ADOPTION The report followed by audited accounts was presented to the PCMF Annual General Conference in Pwani, Milele Beach Hotel on Saturday 25 TH February and accepted for forward transmission to the GA. 9 DOCUMENT 15 RESOLUTIONS 1.This G.A. receives the report of Presbyterian Church Men Fellowship (PCMF) and audited accounts report for financial year from Maina Kinyua and Company with appreciation. 2: This GA notes the outstanding cess payable by Presbyterials after restructuring amounting to Ksh 15, and authorize the debts to be written off. 3. This G.A. receives and upholds the recommendations from the research work done on men and cross cultural issues i.e. MBURI CIA KIAMA and men s participation in sacraments as a basis of training, education, correction for Church leaders, ministers, elders and groups. 4. This G.A. notes with gratitude the role of men in mentorship, upholding children and youth ministries and further urges all parishes to work with strategic goals for value addition after restructuring. 5. This GA notes the urgent need for structured Capacity building after restructuring. Further the GA Instructs PCMF to develop curriculums for the core programs and initiate Trainer of trainers (TOT) program for parish leaders. 6.This G.A. upholds the PCMF Annual General Conference as per the practice and procedure for purposes of evaluation and engagement with the G.A. officials for direction and counsel. Further this G.A. instructs presbyteries within one region to be sending at least one Chaplain ( Minister) to lead the delegates from parishes.
