2 Sister Myra Dudley-Byrd Myra was born in Sumter, SC. She is the daughter of Amanda McDaniel Dudley and the late James Dudley. Early in life, her parents instilled in her Christian and biblical values. From early childhood until her membership movement to Mount Calvary Baptist Church, she was a member of Jehovah Baptist Church, Sumter, SC. Myra grew up with very humble principals, aligned with God s word of treating everyone with love. Romans 2:11 states: For God has no respect of person. As a result, she is intrigued with God s majestic means of knitting together the uniqueness of different individuals and marvels at the beauty and the extraordinary purpose found in EACH person. Myra is continually inspired by her mother s favorite poem, IF, by Rudyard Kipling - If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much, Myra received her undergraduate Mathematics degree from South Carolina State University and her Masters degree in Applied Engineering from The George Washington University. She also received her Client Executive Certification from Harvard University, School of Government. She currently holds the position of Certified Client Executive, Special Programs, for the IBM Corporation. Myra has received numerous achievement awards from IBM and has participated in civic organizations e.g., Board of Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, NAACP Parents Council Representative for two Montgomery County schools and South Carolina State Alumni Association. In 1986, she was cited as one of the 30 Top African-American Achievers by Ebony Magazine. Her greatest joy in life, however, is to know that she is a child of the Most High God and to walk daily in alignment with His will for her life. Keeping constant to her focus on God s awesomeness and the importance of constant communication with God, her favorite scriptures are Ephesians 3:20, Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ASK or IMAGINE and I Thessalonians 5: 16-18, Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Myra is married to a wonderful, supportive, God-fearing mate, Mr. Jeffrey Byrd, and they are blessed with four children; Morgan Denise, Jeffrey Collin, Drew Anthony, and Logan Elisabeth. God s parenting guidance for Myra and Jeff is Galatians 6:9, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Holding on to My Sister Letting Go of Myself Galatians 6:2-10

9 9 Ministry Focus MOTHER (Woman) A mother is a vital part of a family. She has several roles to play. In many instances, the mother is the one who holds the family together. (Proverbs 31:15, 17, 27 and 30). Proverbs 31:15 says: She gets up while it is still dark, she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls ; Verse 17 says: She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks and Verse 27 goes on to say: She watches over the affairs of her household. Mothers were created to have a positive and profound impact on everyone around them whether it is their husbands, children, parents, friends or others. Numerous women who did not birth children have significantly impacted those around them. Finally, verse 30 states, Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. A mother (woman) who prays is a powerful woman; she knows, with God, all things are possible. A praying mother (woman) will be remembered long after she is gone because of the great legacy that she left for her family. 16 16 COUNSELING MINISTRY Unconditional (Love) Relations with Children: Five Ways to Demonstrate Sponsor: Counseling Ministry This is the fourth of a series of articles which focuses on RELATIONSHIPS. Each article will address relationships from a biblical perspective. Unconditional love, as described in previous articles, can simply be characterized as having a relationship with someone with no conditions or expectations for a return. Consider the following five ways for demonstrating unconditional love for your children in a manner as previously described: Pray for and with children (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Assure them that they can pray anywhere, anytime, out loud and in their minds; Demonstrate self-discipline for children (1 Kings 1:6). Help them to understand that orderliness matters, and help them learn to make decisions about what s important and what s not; Teach children to keep their promises (Isaiah 36:6). The best way to teach this is by keeping your word to them; Exemplify good work ethics. Show children that work is a part of life and that there are rewards to working other than money (Matthew 25:21); and Show children how to value money and time. Let children know that money and time can be properly balanced by offering themselves to God without reservation. Show them how to spend time and money wisely they both belong to God (Mark 12:17). What s next? 18 FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY Excerpts from "The Evidence Bible" by Bridge-Logos Publishers "How should I witness to someone I know? For most of us, it is far easier to witness to a stranger than someone we know and respect. This certainly creates an internal conflict in each of us. An effective way to soften the message without compromise is to speak in the first person or in testimonial form. Say something like, "I didn't know that the Bible warns that every idle word I have spoken, I will have to give an account on Judgment Day". Romans 14:12 states "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God". I thought that as long as I believed in God and tried to live a good life, I would go to heaven when I died. I was so wrong! Jesus said that if I as much looked with lust, I committed adultery in my heart, and that there was nothing I could do to wash away my sins. I knew that if God judged me by the Ten Commandments on Judgment Day, I would end up guilty and go to hell. It was when I acknowledged my sins that I began to understand why Jesus died. It was to take the punishment for my sins, and the sins of the world. Then, depending on the person's openness, you may ask How do you think you will do on Judgment Day, if God judges you by the Ten Commandments"? Always be friendly and open, do for them and pray for the opportunity to let your light so shine, that others may see your Christian walk. 18
