In our 8:30 a.m. traditional service we offer familiar hymns and rich, traditional worship forms in a meaningful and inspirational setting. Our 11:00 a.m. contemporary service includes the same message as our 8:30 a.m. service but in an informal style, enhanced with contemporary music. We encourage you to try both worship styles! And the people of Israel also began to complain. Oh, for some meat! they exclaimed. 5 We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna! 10 Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the Lord became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated. 11 And Moses said to the Lord, Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people? 12 Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors? 13 Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, Give us meat to eat! 14 I can t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! 15 If this is how you intend to treat me, just go

4 ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery! 16 Then the Lord said to Moses, Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle to stand there with you. 24 So Moses went out and reported the Lord s words to the people. He gathered the seventy elders and stationed them around the Tabernacle. 25 And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this never happened again. 26 Two men, Eldad and Medad, had stayed behind in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but they had not gone out to the Tabernacle. Yet the Spirit rested upon them as well, so they prophesied there in the camp. 27 A young man ran and reported to Moses, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp! 28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses assistant since his youth, protested, Moses, my master, make them stop! 29 But Moses replied, Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them all! 30 Then Moses returned to the camp with the elders of Israel. (NLT) L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. LISTENING TO GOD SPEAK TO US THROUGH HIS WORD James 5: Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. 17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. 19 My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, 20 you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins. (sung) 38 John said to Jesus, Teacher, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he wasn t in our group. 39 Don t stop him! Jesus said. No one who performs a miracle in my name will soon be able to speak evil of me. 40 Anyone who is not against us is for us. 41 If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded. 42 But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands. 45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It s better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out. 49 For everyone will be tested with fire. 50 Salt is good for seasoning. Attention Parents: During the Month of October, your child s Sunday School class is collecting boxes of instant potatoes. All Donations will be appreciated and will go to the Northeast Community Fund. Screen Show Help Needed: We are in need of someone to do the screen show computer for the 11:00 a.m. service. Thanksgiving Dinner will be offered to anyone who eats alone on Thanksgiving Day, November 22 at 12:00 noon at St. John s Lutheran Church. Tickets will be $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available starting September 23 rd at church or in the church office. Ticket sales will end on October 28 th and no tickets will be sold at the door. LSA News Substitute Teachers Needed: LSA is currently seeking substitute teachers for the 2018/19 school year? Bachelor s degree required and must follow a background check paid for by the school. Hours range from 10 hours/week for before school care to 15 hours/week for after school care.
