1 St. Olaf Lutheran Church The CALLER March 2018 SEDER SUPPER FOR EVERYONE on Sunday, March 11 th at 10:15am for G.I.F.T. Sunday (Generations In Faith Together) To lead this Passover Meal turned into the Lord s supper, is our special guest, Chris Heeb, who is a Messianic Jew (a Jewish person who believes Jesus IS the messiah). Chris Heeb was born near Lake Constance in Switzerland, just 2 hours away from Munich Germany and the Dachau concentration camp. His uncle was a Swiss border guard during WW2 and had a big impact on Chris interest in the events leading up to the atrocities of the Holocaust. Chris moved with his parents to America in 1960, and his first exposure to personal antisemitism came in late grade school when some of his classmates began calling him a Christ Killer. His Jewish-sounding surname Hebe is also slang for Hebrew/Jew, and having been raised as a Lutheran, he was challenged to understand this seemingly bizarre aggression directed at him, as well as his Jewish classmates. He learned that being a Hebe definitely had its issues. In the late 1970s, Chris attended the University of Minnesota where he pursued a political science/history major. In 1979, his secular agnostic lifestyle was changed forever by the outreach of a Christian couple and through scripture study, he came to the realization that the God of Israel was also Yeshua/Jesus of Nazareth, God Incarnate. Twenty years later, the Lord greatly blessed his life when he met and married YWAM missionary and nurse, Regina Johnson. They currently home school their three children. Pastor Chris Heeb has spent over 30 years studying the Bible from a Hebraic/Jewish perspective primarily through the teachings of Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Zola Levitt and Derek Prince. In 1997, he joined with Good News for Israel to continue the outreach into the Jewish and Christian communities, and he has also been at the forefront of end-time s prophecy awareness. Sunday, March 4 th, 4pm at Beer Snobs in Hartland Martin Luther was not a homebody! He got out to the local tavern, made music, rocked the house, and celebrated life with his community. We carry on his tradition of praising God in public places and invite you to join us. Steve Stretz (our worship guitarist/vocalist) and I (Pastor Tom) play in the Christian hymns band. We encourage you to bring friends, neighbors, coworkers, and relatives who might get into such a festive occasion. Sharing God s Love, Caring for Community ANNUAL PIE AUCTION Sunday March 4 th at 11:00 a.m. Bid on your favorite piece or a whole pie. Our annual Pie Auction will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 4, Light refreshments will be available before & during the Pie Auction. Proceeds will help support youth events. Students, families, and others are asked to bring 2 pies each.
2 Hans Peterson & Nelson Morlock to perform at Parsonage Party on Friday, April 6 th 6:00pm Dessert, Hors d oeuvres, & drinks 7:00pm Intimate Concert $20 (35 max, so go to now and sign up ) Hans Peterson - song leader in faith - based setting Born and raised in Alaska, Hans began his life in the Midwest at Luther College. Since his college days, Hans has toured with a musical group to West Africa, worked as a youth director/worship leader, and served homeless men in a Catholic Worker House. Hans' passion for the church as a welcoming place led him to United Seminary in the Twin Cities where he completed a masters in theology and arts. As a singer/songwriter he ventures out solo and with the Dakota Road band, playing piano and acoustic guitar. Home is now in Jordan, MN where he teaches music and private lessons at St. John s School. Hans lives with his spouse, Heidi, on her family's farm with their two boys. When he is not leading people in song, he might be weeding the garden, picking berries, tapping sugar maples, or harvesting hazelnuts. In all that he does, Hans prays and works for a world where all creation is seen as sacred. Nelson Morlock Currently on a gap year before beginning his studies in the fall of 2018 at Earlham College (Richmond, IN), Nelson is a versatile musician. Whether it is his soulful voice, playful bass guitar, or the creative expression of fiddle, he draws an audience in with his dynamic musicianship. His music dances with energy & longing, playfulness & panache, tenderness & joy. Nelson s music [along with his dad, Hans], is authentic, sacred, indie, organic, acoustic, eco-hippie Rev.
