4 Catechism Corner The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time When we mention the word virtue, the ones that usually come to mind first are the Theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity (sometimes called Love). These virtues are represented on the top of the high altar in St. Louis Cathedral. (the statues that are holding a cross, an anchor, and children) According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church the theological virtues are the foundation of Christian moral activity. (CCC 1813) These virtues are infused in our souls at our Baptism. They are gifts from God. Faith is the virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he reveals to us (CCC 1814) Hope is the virtue by which we desire the kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our happiness (CCC 1817) Charity is the virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. (CCC 1822) So the virtue we need to have and cultivate first is Faith. Hope and Charity come from our belief in God. How can we build up our faith? One step could be to read and study the Nicene Creed that we recite in Mass each week or the Apostles Creed that is recited with the rosary. I believe in one God, the Father almightly It is important for Catholics to understand and to say out loud this creed regularly. Speaking and hearing the words helps our minds ponder what is being proclaimed. Most of our creed can be found almost word for word in scriptures. A good resource for more enlightenment on the subject is Scott Hahn s book The Creed: Professing the Faith Through the Ages. Submitted by C.C. Merritt Recently Baptized: OLPH would like to welcome our newly baptized parishioners. Brian and Britney Furbush had their daughters Bria and Baelyn Furbush baptized on December 31, Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Weekend of January 13/14, 2018 Chris an stewardship begins with the call to discipleship and in today s Gospel we discover those first individuals who sought out Jesus and wanted to listen to him, learn from him and stay with him. Today, Chris an stewards search out the hidden presence of Jesus in their own lives every day. They know Christ is the Messiah who will one day bring about a perfect restora on to a troubled world. They further understand that they are sacraments of his hidden presence in the world. Their task is to make that reality known through their own words and ac ons. What is one thing we can do to be be er stewards of Christ s life in us? Did You Know? Ordinary Time is the name given to the thirty-three or thirty-four weeks (depending upon Easter) in the course of the year apart from Advent/Christmas and Lent/Triduum/Easter. Ordinary Time is that part of the liturgical year when no particular moment or aspect of the Christian mystery is celebrated.
