1 The FPC Newsletter 601 Pine Street Klamath Falls, Oregon FPC s Support is AWESOME! November 2016 This Sunday... Angel Tree Each year, our congregation has generously supported this wonderful project that began with Chuck Colson in The goal is to give every child in our area who has an incarcerated parent two gifts: one practical, like socks, and one that is the toy they desire. Later this month you will see a tree up in the Narthex. It will be a little early, but that is because we need to get all the gifts back by December 4 for a December 10 party for the kids and their family. Each tag has the age and sex of the child and a note from their parent. We are helping that parent communicate their love when they cannot be there in person. There are about 37 kids needing FPC's Christmas s pirit. Thank you for doing whatever you can for the Angel Tree. Pastor Stuart November 6th, will be our 1st of the Month Luncheon. You will be provided with a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. Please stay for this sharing following our second service today. Who likes Cinnamon Rolls? During the last two Sundays of November, Karli Fussell and the MOPS Group will be ready to take your orders for their beautiful homemade cinnamon rolls. There are two selections: Classic and Caramel Pecan. Please submit your order with payment by Tuesday, December 6th. The cost is $8.00 per 1/2 dozen, or $15.00 per dozen. Thank you for your awesome support!

We will be studying Advent Conspiracy: Can Christmas Still Change the World? by Rick McKinley, Chris Seay, and Greg Holder Are you fed up with how consumerism has stolen the soul of Christmas? This year, take a stand! Join the growing groundswell of Christ-followers who are choosing to making Christmas what it should be a joyous celebration of Jesus' birth, not a retail circus. In four compelling sessions, Advent Conspiracy invites individuals, families, groups, and entire churches to substitute compassion for consumerism by practicing four simple but powerful, countercultural concepts: Worship Fully because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus! Spend Less and free your resources for things that truly matter. Give More of your presence: your hands, your words, your time, your heart. Love All the poor, the forgotten, the marginalized, the sick, in ways that make a difference. Table of Contents Angel Tree 1st of the month luncheon Women s Bible Study Evening Tuesday Night Bible Study begins November 1st at 5:30pm. in the Fire Side Room. We will be studying BREATHE by Priscilla Shirer I know I need this study with the holidays quickly approaching. Thelma Cox See How The Concept Of Sabbath Can Change Your Life One of the greatest challenges about women in our culture is taking time to cease from all the activities and just breathe. We are in bondage to busyness. We constantly strive to complete the limitless to-do lists that hinder us from experiencing all that God has for us. By neglecting time for tranquility, serenity, and repose, we limit our Christlikeness and miss out on some of God's greatest gifts. In the Old Testament, Sabbath was given to the Israelites as a gift, and it is still a gift to us today. If you are weary, worn out, and exhausted, then the concept of Sabbath will change your life. 4 Page 4 Library has Blue Zones! In this expanded paperback edition of his New York Times bestseller, longevity expert Dan Buettner draws on his research from extraordinarily long-lived communities Blue Zones around the globe to highlight the lifestyle, diet, outlook, and stress-coping practices that will add years to your life and life to your years. A long healthy life is no accident. It begins with good genes, but it also depends on good habits. If you adopt the right lifestyle, experts say, chances are you may live up to a decade longer. So what's the formula for success? National Geographic Explorer Dan Buettner has lead teams of researchers across the globe to uncover the secrets of Blue Zones geographic regions where high percentages of centenarians are enjoying remarkably long, full lives. The recipe for longevity, Buettner has found, is deeply intertwined with community, lifestyle, and spirituality. You won't find longevity in a bottle of diet pills or with hormone therapy. You'll find it by embracing a few simple but powerful habits, and by creating the right community around yourself. In The Blue Zone, Buettner has blended his lifestyle formula with the latest longevity research to inspire lasting behavioral change and add years to your life. 5 2nd Annual Harvest Fest Sunday's Chili Cook Off came off with everyone able to handle the heat and all had plenty to eat. Seven giant crock pots of chili competed for Wubba s BBQ Shack Gift cards. Last year we had multiple family members voting for their Chili to win 1st place. So this year we brought in some brave souls willing to take the heat, Klamath County Fire District 1 to judge our chili competitors! Keith Stone and his Rocky Mountain Elk Chili took 1st place for the second year in a row! What a wonderful afternoon of fun and fellowship! Excited for next year! by Austyn Weems King s Kids Boot Camp Page 5 During Boot Camp the kids have been earning marbles for parties. They earn them by coming, wearing their Boot Camp shirts, bringing their bibles, bringing offering, saying their memory verses and bringing new friends! A few weeks ago they earned the entire bucket of marbles and voted for a Movie Night Party with pizza, popcorn and root beer floats. 51 kids enjoyed this fun filled night with us! They're already working towards party #2! Good work Soldiers! The King s Kids watched A Bug s Life and we talked about how Flick was like David when he was asked to fight Goliath. 1. They had courage. 2. They were confident. 3. They both came prepared. 4. They had trust. 5. They both had victory.

6 Page 6 ROCK Youth Group Senior s October 8th was the day! The ROCK Youth Group had their sights set on Mt. McLoughlin...and then the storm hit the week before and left some snow on the mountain. Not to be deterred we found another place to hike. So on October 8th we (Tim Bartlett, Ted Vanderlip, Heather Bartlett, Payton Mengis, Cecilia Torres, Nathan Dahm, Chase Vanderlip, and Garrett Short) headed West of Crater Lake to Union Creek. There were lots of beautiful waterfalls and fall colors to keep us captivated. We did a 7 mile round trip hike along the Rogue River. Afterwards we stopped at the Cone Shop at the Union Creek Resort for some ice cream. The day ended with dinner at Old Town Pizza. Our goal for next year is to get to the top of Mount McLoughlin but maybe a little sooner than October. by Heather Bartlett Our Senior (55 plus) group also ROCK! Our luncheons on the 3rd Monday of each month are always filled with wonderful food and great visits with everyone in attendance. On November 21st we will share a meal of Ham and Scalloped Potatoes. The speakers for the November luncheon are our very own Charlie & Barb Dehlinger. Follow along as we go from Anchorage, to Denali, to Fairbanks, to Chicken (yes, this is a real town) and then on down through the Yukon Territory to British Columbia and on to Corvallis. Pictures and commentary. For our December luncheon, we have invited Child Evangelism Fellowship of Klamath-Lake Counties. They serve the children of Oregon s Klamath and Lake Counties, as well as some northern areas of California s Siskiyou County. Our goal is to reach children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, disciple them in His Word, and establish them in local churches for their growth in the Lord. Now more than ever, children need to know about the love of God and the hope He can give them! It is not the will of My Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:14

7 Sunday School October was an incredible month in Sunday School. We prayed and learned our way through some of the great stories of the Old Testament, including the incredible story of Moses, an ordinary man called to extraordinary things. We also watched and studied as God's people received the 10 Commandments and learned how to obey God. We learned about suffering, perseverance and hope as we watched God's Chosen People search for the Promised Land. We saw how God brings aid to those in need as we heard the mighty horns bring down the walls of Jericho. As October wrapped up, we learned about the great Judges. November shows us more famous names of the Old Testament. The Book of Ruth introduces us to Naomi, Ruth, Boaz, and the universal concepts of loyalty, and the gift of family that you choose. We'll also get to meet Saul, and finally be introduced to one of the truly great characters of the Old Testament, King David. We will see him as a young boy who is unafraid in the face of overwhelming odds. We will watch him mature into a King and see how his life is shaped by his relationship with his God. As always, we ask for your prayers for this ministry, for those who teach and for those who learn. As Jesus said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them Sunday School (cont.) Page 7 not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
