2 Women s Bible Studies FALL 2018 Choose a study and join us! Mondays Hebrews, The Nearness of King Jesus, by Lisa Harper Mondays September 10 May 6 8:30 10:00am Room 213 Hebrews was a sermon for a specific people and culture in the midst of martyrdom and persecution, but is also so relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or our circumstances. Join Lisa as she journeys through this bridge between the Old and New Testaments to get to the heart of the matter: Jesus is our accessible King. He is not a faraway God, but an up-close Redeemer who draws near to us. Hebrews helps women make the connection between God the Father and God the Son, and reminds us that Jesus is supreme, but He is also compassionate, empathetic, and loving to no end. Lisa Harper makes digging into Hebrews fun and doable, as only she can, without losing an ounce of depth. We are in bondage to busyness. What s missing is space space for God to speak, room for you to hear. It is time for us to breathe and build margin into our lives for God. Join Priscilla Shirer s study, entitled Breathe, on discovering Sabbath margin the boundary God puts around things we enjoy

3 so that we never become slaves again. This boundary of Sabbath rest is especially important as the busyness of the Christmas season bears down upon us. The Sabbath was intended as a gift, and it is still a gift to us today. If you are weary, worn out, and exhausted the concept of Sabbath will change your life. By neglecting time for tranquility, serenity, and repose, we limit our Christlikeness and miss out on some of God s greatest gifts. 4 The Gospel Project God the Pursuer Wednesdays September 12 November 14 5:00 6:30pm Home of Jean Nickell The Gospel Project is a Christ-centered journey that focuses on the story line of the Bible God s plan of redemption for His people. In this study of Acts and the Epistles, we will examine how the work Jesus began on earth continued through the New Testament church in the power of the Holy Spirit. We will also discover how that work continues today as we, as the church, are empowered by the Holy Spirit to take the love of Christ and the gospel message to all the world. Meets at the home of Jean Nickell (480 East Parkins Mill Road) To register, contact: Jean Nickell jeannickell5@gmail.com Towards a Deeper Understanding of Jesus by Xploring the Jewish Scripture and Jewish Life Video Series by Desi Maxwell Wednesdays September 12 November 14 6:15 7:15pm Formal Dining Room Look further at the Jewish roots of the Christian faith by exploring various aspects of the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, whom if we are to truly understand, must be set as a Torah-observant Rabbi in the matrix of first century Jewish life. Jesus has become many things to many people, and sadly the real man from Nazareth has been obscured or even lost. We constantly need to pursue the quest for insights into the true Jesus as we engage with His world, words, and wisdom. He grew up in a Jewish family, attended synagogue on Sabbath, celebrated the Jewish festivals, and walked the land of Israel. So much of what He said was coherent with Jewish thought and consistent with the teaching of contemporary rabbis. Yet He was unique. In this encouraging study, as we look at the life of Joseph, we ll see how his passions, relationships, and suffering fit into the greater story of God and how our stories can do the same. Come learn how we can intentionally live each day with the purpose of glorifying God in all we do. 6 Thursdays The Life of Moses beginning with the book of Exodus Thursdays begins September 6 9:30 11:15am Room 301 Moses delivered an oppressed people from bondage, molded them into a renewed nation, and received revelation from God with new moral standards and laws. From the moment God first appeared to him at the burning bush, Moses consistently turned his eyes toward God. As Moses responded to God in faith, the Lord developed his character as a mighty leader of His people. Join us this fall as we delve into the life of Moses, a man of faith, humility, prayerfulness, and courage. The Eternal Covenant of Redemption is the basis for all of God s dealings with his people. Participants will delve deeply into the glory of our Covenant-making, Covenant-keeping, Covenant-remembering God. Sproul Thursdays September 13 December 6 (no class Nov. 22) 9:30 11:30am Room 305 Knowing Scripture shows us that it is the privilege and duty of every believer to diligently study God s Word. It reminds us that along with this privilege, comes the responsibility to interpret the Bible correctly. Dr. R. C. Sproul teaches that interpreting Scripture, like all sciences, is governed by rules. He lays out the basic guidelines

7 for correctly understanding, interpreting, and applying Scripture, using time-tested principles from Scripture to show how to find the true meaning of its contents. This series is a great study tool for both beginning and long-time Bible-readers.
