1 February, 2018 Volume 21, Issue 2 ASSOCIATION CONNECTIONS Post Office Box 158, Claxton, GA Phone: Fax: Associational Missionary: Rev. Freddy Gardner fmgard@bellsouth.net Cell: Home: Missionary lines Today as I write this column I was studying for a sermon out of Luke s gospel in which Jesus speaks about the weather and how we look at the weather and predict things that are happening or going to happen but fail to look at the times around us. I hear all the doomsayers that say we are worse than we have ever been. No we are not! The only difference today and when Christ was alive on earth is the amount of instant information we have. I actually believe that we are living in one of the greatest times in history, and in the history of America, to be a Christian. The good news of the Gospel is just as powerful today as it was 2,000 years ago. Today people are not luke-warm. They are either hot (on fire for Christ) or not. Let us be those on fire. March is going to be a busy month for Tattnall-Evans with some wonderful opportunities of ministry and training. On March 2-3, the Medical Van Ministry will be at Reidsville First. This is a wonderful time to serve those who are under insured. The next weekend is the Wildlife Festival in Claxton and we will be manning a Baby Comfort Station. If you would like to help please give us a call. On Saturday, Mar. 17, we will host an Evangelism Training event. Randy Mullinax will be leading this event at Friendship beginning at 9 a.m. On Tuesday, Mar 20 we will be hosting a Church Safety Workshop at Pine Gove beginning at 7 p.m. Ricky Thrasher with Georgia Baptist will facilitate this event. On a personal note. Many of you know that Lynn and I are hosting a Haitian Student in our home who is attending Brewton Parker College. He is in need on a reliable mode of transportation. We are not looking for something nice, just dependable. If you have a vehicle you would sell (cheap, he is a college student) please give me a call at or Lynn at Looking forward to what the Lord is going to do among us as we await His second coming. 2 Men On Mission For God Supply Preachers Tattnall-Evans Baptist Association Rev. Freddy Gardner Rev. Rodney Bullard (Also for Worship Leader) or Rev. Bob Murray Rev. Edward Oglesbee or Rev. Harold Smith (Lives in Nevils) Rev. Grady Collins or Rev. Bob Green Rev. Jerald Dorr Doug McMurtry (Layman) Kyle Oglesby (Lives in Nevils) Good Morning Jesus, thank you for filling our Hearts with Joy! Hello Everyone, I pray all is well! The Tattnall/Evans Baptist Association conducted its Annual RA Derby Race for It was held at Cobbtown Baptist, on Saturday January 20 th, WOW! What an awesome event! We had 62 participants and 7 Churches represented in the race; and others came to watch and cheer the racers on! We had fun, fellowship and food. What more could one want? Well, even if you were not looking for it, you found Joy! Pure, God given, Joy! To see the faces, full of excitement, on the kids and adults was worth the trip. We had an aweinspiring message from Brother Freddie Gardner, about how we take our block of wood and sculpt it into a finely shaped race car; God too, takes us as a plain form and sculpts us into what becomes a beautiful representation of Him. I share what Jordan Easley, pastor from Englewood Baptist in Jackson TN, quoted: Who we are in God is easily answered; When we come to Christ our identity is shaped reshaped into the image of Christ. He brings us back to what He intended us to be in the first place. There was an air of excitement from the first moment the participants arrived. The buzz of emotion came from seeing the competitors, viewing the cars of many colors and intricate designs, to anticipating Who s the One?; Who is the one that will be the fastest? When the race time came, the excitement elevated to an on the edge of your seat extravaganza! There were cheers and jeers and egging on of your competitor. All was conducted in a Fun and Christian attitude. Finally, we had the trophy celebration, and everyone left with memories that couldn t be matched by writing them in stone! Previously, we conducted two Derby-N-Day workshops, where you could come and build your car in a day and be ready for the race, other than the final painting and design, in a couple of hours. My friend Joshua Collins came to the workshop for the first time this year, and although he was a little unsure at first, it didn t take him long to get the fever! He designed and sculpted his truck into a race ready, mean machine. He painted it beautifully, and modeled it after the famous character Lightning McQueen. His machine, Lightning Joshua, was a fierce competitor and finished on the podium with a third-place victory in his division. If you ask: What is the RA Derby About? Well let me tell you! This is an opportunity for Fathers and Son s to bond, Men to mentor to Boys, and develop a relationship with each other as well as a relationship with Jesus. This event is open to Mom s and Girls as well. In today s society, we often find that the world is educating our children more that we are. Many times, this worldly or street education is NOT wholesome or based on Christian values. And too; many times, we find ourselves too busy to do activities with our kids that hold such opportunities as this derby race does. Opportunities to teach creativity, discipline, craftsmanship skills and pride of completion. Much like Joshua s story, his Dad and Mom joined in and helped instruct him and enjoyed a feeling of being proud of their son s accomplishment as well as Joshua being able to spend quality time with his parents. So, Dads and Moms, if you are missing time with your sons or daughters, please seize an opportunity like this. It is a quick and easy way to show them love and appreciation. This is a memory that they will tell their children and grandchildren. Your brother in Christ, ~Steve West~ Psalm 127:3 Association-wide Men s Ministry Update Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him!

10 Ministry Safe Church Safety Workshop March 19, First Baptist Church, Statesboro, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm March 20, First Baptist Church, Americus, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm A comprehensive training that covers the WHY, WHAT, and HOW of sexual abuse risk. WHY: The first segment will cover necessary information about sexual abuse and sexual abusers. WHAT: With good information about sexual abuse and sexual abusers, a church can understand the WHAT: an effective safety system and its elements. HOW: Now, HOW to get started. Attendees will learn about the online trainings, forms, and systems to immediately implement an effective safety system. Lead by Gregory Love and Kimberlee Norris. Lunch is included. Register at Ministry Safe Skillful Screening Training This is the next step of the Ministry Safe Training Process. March 21, Eastside Baptist Church, Tifton, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm In ministry programs, we have responsibility for children in our care. Screening job applicants and volunteers is an important responsibility for managers, coordinators, and administrators, but how can we distinguish between a dangerous individual and an appropriate candidate ready to serve? Is it possible to keep the wolf out of the sheep pen? Child sexual abuse is an equal opportunity employer it cuts across all demographics, racial profiles, socioeconomics, geographic areas, and age groups. Both men and women commit child sexual abuse. There are no visual indicators that someone is a molester, or will become one. Less than 10 percent of child sexual abusers are criminally prosecuted; 90 percent, therefore, have no criminal history to check. Hiring and screening personnel must be trained to recognize high-risk responses, which indicate that an individual may be a danger to children served by the ministry. Lead by Gregory Love and Kimberlee Norris. Lunch is included. Register at Mailing Address: P.O. Box 158, Claxton, GA Physical Address: Hwy 280 E, Claxton, GA 30417
