VBS 2007 June Thanks be to God, who always puts us on display in Christ, and spreads through us in every place the scent of knowing him. 2 Corinthians 2:14 Back in the days of the Roman Empire, Roman generals would often hold a victory parade after winning a great battle. In a celebration known as a triumph, enemy prisoners would be marched through the streets as evidence of the Roman conquest. During the parade, sweet-smelling incense would be released into the air, signaling to everyone in the area that their general had won a great victory. Interestingly, the apostle Paul compared Christians, not to the Roman conquerors, but to the captives. He explained that we have been captured by Christ, and now we are his prisoners of war to display to the world his victory over sin. Paul said that through our lives--christ's captives--comes the victory fragrance that alerts others to the presence of our Conqueror. We are the fragrance of life to those who come to know Jesus through our witness. On the other hand (according to verses 15-16), we are the smell of death to those who reject him. When people meet you, do they have the unmistakable sense that you belong to God? It should be obvious to them that through you they can come to know Christ. The choice is theirs, of course, whether to accept God's love or to reject it, but there should be no doubt by your example that it is available to them. Ask God to use your life so that everywhere you go, you will fill that place with the knowledge of Christ. How does a believer look, sound, and seem different from others? LifeWay's Vacation Bible School 2007, Game Day Central: Where Heroes Are Made will get kids in the game and help them learn how to become heroes both on and off the field by focusing on Jesus and following God's plan for their lives. Kids will have an all-access pass for everything from the Worship Rally Arena to the Crafts Fan Zone. So, get ready for a record-setting Vacation Bible School with LifeWay's Game Day Central VBS - it's where heroes are made! All children and youth ages three and up are invited. Classes for children two and under will be provided for VBS workers children only. VBS times are 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. June Kickoff at ballfield June 9 Everyone (including you adults) is invited to the ballfield on June 9 at 6:00 p.m. for this year s VBS Kickoff. We ll play ball, eat hotdogs, popcorn and peanuts and have a grand ole time! Why we do VBS Keeping with its 10-year pattern, Vacation Bible School continues as the single most effective evangelism tool in the Southern Baptist Convention. Numbers show that 26 percent of baptisms in SBC churches came as a direct result of VBS. Lifeway News

3 Page 3 Brent Howell graduated from Fullington Academy. He will be attending Darton College in Albany majoring in paramedics. Andrew Langston graduated from Fullington Academy and was salutatorian of his class. He received a full scholarship to Milsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he will pursue a degree in pharmacy. Arthur Murray also graduated from Fullington Academy and will be attending Georgia Southwestern University in Americus this Fall. He plans to major in marketing. Josh Peavy graduated from Fullington Academy and will be attending Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton majoring in environmental horticultural technology and commercial turf management. Ansley Thompson graduated from Dooly County High School and was the valedictorian of her class. She also received several scholarships. She will begin nursing school at ABAC in August and is now employed by Crisp Regional Hospital. Pictured above are some of our Seasoned Saints enjoying themselves at this year s Turkey Creek Festival on May 5. For more pictures of the festival go to Mothers honored During the morning worship service on Mother s Day, May 13, all mothers present were given a beautiful pen and bookmark. Also gifts were presented to the oldest mother, Lucy Thompson, and to the mother with the most children present which was also Mrs. Thompson. Keeping it in the family, Kimberly Godfrey, Mrs. Thompson s greatgranddaughter, received the gift for the youngest mother present. The average teenager in America watches 21 to 29 hours of TV per week. The average father spends seven minutes a week with his kids. Walt Larimore, Focus on the Family broadcast Taylor Willingham graduated from Mercer University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He is currently working at Crisp Regional Hospital and is planning a July wedding. Kindergarten graduates include Sabrina Bowen, Samantha Bowen and Hannah Morrow. Pray for our pastor search.
