She is an educator, mathematics specialist in middle school and has taught most of her adult life and a native of Washington D.C. and consented to travel through the rings of United Methodism without murmur or complaint. We have two daughters; Karolyn "Janee" who is a senior at Xavier University in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She works two to three jobs. She loves San Antonio and was imported with her younger sister from Nashville Tennessee at the age of four years old. Francis "Cecilia" was two years old when she came to San Antonio and she is a rising sophomore at Wiley College in Marshall Texas (Home of the Great Debaters). Her current debate is to get her first car. Hmmmmm She is majoring in Sociology and on to graduate school to become a counselor. I love people and want to be involved encouraging and motivating them, mentoring youth, and networking people to help them find their dreams. I have been part of varied non-profit boards, agencies, general commissions and other designations for the better part of my teen and adult life and have served locally, nationally and internationally. While in Nashville, I served with the General Board of Discipleship as a National Stewardship Associate and later became a member of the National Evangelism Unit. I have travelled extensively within the United States and abroad connecting with mission personnel and field staff in numerous countries on the continent of Africa. For our local district mission teams, who made eleven trips New Orleans and three trips to Galveston Texas, I worked to raise money. I identified disaster and response specialists for our district and designed an evacuation strategy from the Golden Crescent of South Texas with mission teams annually. While at the General Board of Discipleship, I assisted in the design of varied National Schools of evangelism as well as new church development and transformation. Moreover, I served with the Offering Christ Today Schools, Methodist Health Care Ministries as a board member, with institutions locally, and participated in disaster relief efforts for victims of hurricane Katrina in the city of San Antonio. I worked with the Red Cross and other government response agencies. I have worked with the hearing impaired; the Creek Nation of Southern Alabama; designed two National Native American schools of Evangelism, and support the Advance in my current role of District Superintendent and dean of the cabinet. My wife Kay and I have respected and admired the Windcrest Family for the near twenty years that we have been in the state of Texas. You are a special group with a freedom to explore and engage in exciting ministry. All I have ever heard has been about the warmth and family experience that the Windcrest families share with the communities of San Antonio and beyond. 5 Children s and Family Ministry Vacation Bible School 2014 As I write this article, Wilderness Escape Vacation Bible School is in full swing. The children and volunteers alike are having a blast pretending to be Israelites being led by Moses through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. We have been there while God parted the Red Sea, provided food and drink each day to His people, and gave us His best rules the Ten Commandments. Everyone learned that God is with us; God gives us what we need; God gives us strength; God saves us; God guides us; so.trust God! By the time this newsletter reaches you, Vacation Bible School will be but a memory. All of the decorations will be put away for another year, snacks will be eaten up, friendships will have been made and plans will probably already be in the works for next year s VBS! But Vacation Bible School 2014 can t be filed away until the thank you s have been said. First of all, thank you to all of the awesome volunteers who shared their time and talents with us all week. Some of them were first-time VBS volunteers and weren t real sure what to expect! We are so thankful for all of you because VBS can t happen without you. Thank you as well to all of the persons who made donations to our VBS. As you all know, we stepped out in faith this year and did not ask or receive any budget monies for Vacation Bible School. This decision was made after lots of prayer and consideration. But God was faithful and we were given money through donations and fund-raising events to fully fund our program. We have been so blessed! Most of all, thank you to God for laying out before us the opportunities to serve Him through all of the missions and ministries here at Windcrest Church! July is Eye Injury Prevention Month July has been officially recognized as Eye Injury Prevention Month. For this reason, a focus is placed on protecting your eyes in various environments. Eye injuries of all types occur at a rate of more than 2,000 per day. In particular, an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in American workplaces alone. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found that almost 70% of the eye injuries studied occur from falling or flying objects, or sparks striking the eye. The best ways to prevent injury to the eye is to always wear the appropriate eye protection. It is estimated that over 90% of eye injuries are preventable with the use of proper safety eyewear. For more information on this topic, please visit webpage: American Academy of Ophthalmology- or contact your Wesley Nurse: Dawn at (210) , Ext # 142 Blessings, Your Wesley Nurse, Dawn Gonzales, R.N.
