If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? - 1 Corinthians 12:14-26 It seems likely that if Jesus had taken the Myers-Briggs personality test, he probably would have come out on the introvert side. ccording to the gospel accounts, he was frequently trying to get away from the crowds to pray or fast alone. His ministry was characterized by intense engagement with people in rhythm with time apart or with a few close friends. Of course, Jesus loved all the varied people he met along the way of his ministry, but he seemed to need that time by himself to regain his energy. By all biblical accounts, garrulous Paul, however, was clearly an extrovert. ome of his letters read like someone who is thinking out loud, a telltale characteristic of an extrovert (see, for instance, 2 Corinthians 11). One can imagine Paul spending time alone only when he was thrown in jail, and even then, he would engage the person in the next cell and work to convert them with the incessancy of an extrovert. urely Paul spent a lot of time in serious study of the Hebrew scripture (our Old Testament), crafting the argument for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. But, when Paul needed energy, he got it from being around people, talking or arguing, working together. Thinking of them alongside one another, Jesus and Paul remind us that introverts and extroverts can collaborate fruitfully, and we need each other to be the fullness of the body of Christ. If Paul were aware of this modern description of personality traits, he might have reminded the Corinthians, If all were extroverts, where would be the practice of careful listening? If all were introverts, who would greet the newcomers at the fellowship hour? Our life together at Lewis Memorial is full to overflowing this summer, with many ways for each one of us to engage. Introverts and extroverts alike have an important part to play in our mission of offering Christ at this crossroad. Just take the example of Vacation Bible chool. ll our personalities, gifts, and resources brought together reach out and witness effectively to all the hundreds of young, precious souls who will be here. We need the introverted ones working quietly behind the scenes preparing alongside the extroverted ones engaging and playing with the children. Our vows of membership invite each one to bring our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. These will look different for each person, but when we bring them together through the power of the Holy pirit, we are an incredibly fruitful collaboration in the fullness of the body of Christ. What a witness to the Lewiston community when our faith is magnified together! Blessings, VB Registration On-Line:

3 4 nnual Conference The North Georgia nnual Conference is always a great time of worship, fellowship, and reconnecting with friends from across the state. This year s conference was especially pirit-filled as our bishop presided for the first time and we focused on worshiping and serving well. Each day brought fresh and exciting expressions of worship led by teams of worship leaders from across the conference. In keeping with the theme of how our Work: Excellent Worship That Inspires, each worship experience was paired with a roundtable discussion with the planners showing their work, inspiring all of us to focus on making worship in our congregations the most excellent expression of praise to God it can be! Other highlights included voting on five constitutional amendments that require 2/3 approval by all annual conferences to be adopted; the Committee on Episcopacy s introduction of Bishop Haupert-Johnson in a rap based on the hit musical Hamilton; celebration of the ministry of laity; licensing, commissioning, and ordination of new clergy; retirement of clergy from active service; and rejoicing in the birth new congregations. Our gifts for the Bishop s Offering for the Ministerial Education Fund and UMCOR layette kits added to those of the nnual Conference where God multiplied our gifts abundantly! Ministerial Education Fund Offering: $88, UMCOR Kits Collected $160 worth of Birthing Kits (20) $10,068 worth of Health Kits (839) $390 worth of chool Kits (36) $53,685 worth of Layette Kits (1,198) $28 worth of ewing Kits (1) $130 worth of Cleaning Buckets (2) Total $64,467 worth of UMCOR Kits ou can read complete updates of each day of nnual Conference and see lots of pictures at Rev. Retirement how your work: Excellent Worship That Inspires LMUMC Clergy and Lay elegates: Rev. Beth anders, Kiki Orum, Reneé & onny Mcowell, Grant Nichols, Vicki Parker outh elegate - Tyler Cooper When I was first going into the Conference, I thought it was just going to be a lot of talking about finances, but I was wrong. It was about different things that go on in the Conference from youth events up to adult things. Lastly, as the Conference came to an end, I had a great time, made a lot of friends, and learned a lot that I didn t know before. New ppointment We rejoice with Rev. onny ellers on his ordination as an elder in full connection on June 14. onny will now serve as enior Pastor for Bascomb UMC in Woodstock, Georgia. onny served as Minister of Music at Lewis Memorial from 2003 to Pam served as pianist. What is the Keeper of the Water award? you may ask. This is an award given to kids who go above and beyond showing servant leadership, reaching out to the home owners in a special way. It is a great honor that says a lot about the recipients.
