1 GRACE HAPPENINGS A WORD FROM PASTOR STEVE I received the following, written by Max Lucado, in an from a dear brother. It speaks volumes as to what November 9, 2016 should look like for us, regardless of the election results. I am reminded of David s words in Psalm 27 as he wraps it up in verse 14: Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord. We are really ready for this presidential election to be over. We re ready for an end to the rancor and tackiness. Voters on both sides feel frustrated, even embarrassed by it all. There is a visceral fear, an angst about the result. What if so and so wins? When we wake up to November 9, post-election, when the confetti is swept away and the election is finally over, what will we see? I have a prediction. I know exactly what November 9 will bring. Another day of God s perfect sovereignty. He will still be in charge. His throne will still be occupied. He will still manage the affairs of the world. Never before has His providence depended on a king, president, or ruler. And it won t on November 9, The king s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes. (Proverbs 21:1 NASB) On one occasion the Lord turned the heart of the King of Assyria so that he aided them in the construction of the Temple. On another occasion, He stirred the heart of Cyrus to release the Jews to return to Jerusalem. Nebuchadnezzar was considered to be the mightiest king of his generation. But God humbled and put him in detention for seven years. For the kingdom is the Lord s, and He rules over the nations. (Psalms 22:28 NASB) Jeremiah did this. He was the prophet to Israel during one of her darkest periods of rebellion. He was called the weeping prophet because he was one. He wept at the condition of the people and the depravity of their faith. He was so distraught that one of his books was entitled Lamentations. But then he considered the work of God. Note the intentionality of his words: This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23) Imitate Jeremiah. Lift up your eyes. Dare to believe that good things will happen. Dare to believe that God was speaking to us when He said: God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God. (Romans 8:28) Many years ago, I spent a week visiting the interior of Brazil with a long-time missionary pilot. He flew a circuit of remote towns in a small plane that threatened to come undone at the slightest gust of wind. Wilbur and Orville had a sturdier aircraft. I could not get comfortable. I kept thinking that the plane was going to crash in some Brazilian jungle and I d be gobbled up by piranhas or swallowed by an anaconda. I kept shifting around, looking down, and gripping my seat. (As if that would help.) Finally, the pilot had had enough of my squirming. He looked at me and shouted over the airplane noise. We won t face anything I can t handle. You might as well trust me to fly the plane. Understanding God s sovereignty over the nations opens the door to peace. When we realize that God influences the hearts of all rulers, we can then choose to pray for them rather than fret about them. Rather than wring our hands we bend our knees, we select prayer over despair. Glorify God Through Family During but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 November 2016

2 Is God saying the same to you? If so, make this your prayer: Dear Lord, You are perfect. You could not be better than You are. You exist because You choose to exist. You are selfsustaining. No one helps You. No one gives You strength. You are self-governing. Who can question Your deeds? Who dares advise You? You are correct. In every way. In every choice. You regret no decision. You have never failed. Never! You cannot fail! You are God! You will accomplish Your plan. You are happy. Eternally joyful. Endlessly content. You are the king and supreme ruler of all history. An arch of your eyebrow and a million angels will pivot and salute. Every throne is a footstool to Yours. Every crown is papier mâché to Yours. No limitations, hesitations, questions, second thoughts, or backward glances. You consult no clock. You keep no calendar. You report to no one. You are in charge. And I trust you. Circle November 9 on your calendar and write upon it the words: Our good God rules the world. November s Family Theme is Grateful for Family...always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father... Ephesians 5:20 For what are you thankful? Perhaps your spouse, children, parents, grandparents, pastors, teachers, church family and the list goes on! Why not let them know just how thankful you are not just this month, but throughout the year. Show your thanks with words, spending time together be creative in expressing your thanks. 3 A Devotion from Pastor Jon: "What is discipleship"? Acts 2: 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Discipleship. What a magnificent blueprint our Lord has given us in Acts 2. Tragically, discipleship has often been pushed aside in the modern Church today in favor of individualism. However, individualism is the antithesis of Biblical Christianity. Nothing could be more critical in the life of the Church and the believer than discipleship. Jesus gave the Great Commission (Mat. 28:16-20) to go and make disciples, but the process wasn t meant to stop there. Paul in 1 Cor. 11:1 declares: Follow me as I follow Christ. That is what I am proposing for each of us. Realize how serious following Him truly is. There is no plan B. No short cuts. Everything else in life fails in comparison to following our Master. Let s walk the walk of Jesus together. He is worth it. ATF had some fun at the Maize Quest in New Park on October 15 ATF had a group of 10 teens go to First Fruits Farm in MD to assist with various needs in getting fresh vegetables ready to send to foodbanks in central PA and the Baltimore area. Due to rain, we were unable to harvest but we worked together to empty and bag numerous bins of potatoes in their barn. Each bag was around 50 pounds. This was a great team activity and a tangible way to show the teens how to be the hands and feet of Christ. First Fruits Farms not only provides food for the hungry, most importantly, they preach and present the Gospel. We will be partnering up with them again in the future. Their ministry is 100% gospel centered and it is a pleasure for us to establish a relationship with them. 4 THANKFULNESS / GRATITUDE Webster's New World Dictionary describes Thanksgiving as a day of "gratitude". In Colossians 3:16, Paul says "...we should sing to God with gratitude in our hearts". Thanks, gratitude and appreciation all cover the same concept. Be thankful for all things, good or bad. Don't pick and choose, just be thankful to God for everything. Sure, "easy for you to say ", you might retort. Not really. I'm an old hard-head and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ expended a lot of patience teaching me this. He has even used some of you in this learning process(for which I am very thankful). Now, He has provided me this opportunity to encourage you to give God thanks for everything. Back to Colossians 3: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be THANKFUL. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with GRATITUDE in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving THANKS to God the Father through Him." Paul's instructions to be THANKFUL was written from prison. Please do not imprison your heart by complaining. Set it free by giving God, through Jesus Christ, THANKS FOR ALL THINGS. ~Tom Greig Creation Weekend Safari with Mike Snavely Mike Snavely was reared in South Africa, the son of missionary parents. After graduating from Oak Hills Christian College in Minnesota in 1979, he returned to South Africa to work for the National Parks Service in the Kruger National Park, which in some circles has earned him the nickname, Ranger Mike. Following this, he began a career as an African wildlife artist. In 1985 he married Carrie Baum who grew up near Hershey and in 1986 they went to South Africa as missionaries with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) and served by teaching at Durban Bible College. Since returning to the U.S., they founded a not-for-profit organization named Mission: Imperative! in a ministry of teaching creation-oriented issues through a series of seminars covering a wide range of topics. The ministry necessitates travel, both in this country and abroad. The Creation Safari seminars Mike has developed are not dry lectures, nor does he speak over people s heads. His "nuts-and-bolts" approach is to make these sessions as interesting and understandable as possible. He uses PowerPoint, video, and various other props. The use of humor adds to the interest. Mike is the author of Creation or Evolution: A Home-Study Curriculum and has produced many DVDs that cover various topics relative to creation issues. In 2010, they started a series of traveling "safaris" that put wings to their subject matter. There are two currently -- one to the southwest, and one to South Africa.
