Wher it s that y ve spped gog Mass or haven t been confession a rey long time, ir parents are deeply concerned that this essential dimension of who we are, is missg ir lives. If this experience resonates with you, n you are not alone. This week, Church celebrates feast of a third century Sat by name of Monica, who found herself ust such a predicament. Sat Monica was born North Africa year 332 AD. She was born Christian parents, and later married a pagan man named Patricius, whom she discovered had a bit of an irascible temper. After y were married, she not only found herself livg with her new husband, but with her cantankerous mor--law as well. This would likely have been enough make most people quite embittered. Monica, however, was a woman of deep faith and persistent prayer always comg Lord with troubles of her heart and strivg give an auntic witness Jesus Christ way that she lived. Her perseverance eventuy won out, as both her husband and her mor--law became Christians. But Monica s concerns for her family didn t end re. She and Patricius had at least three children Auguste, Navigius, and Perpetua none of whom were that terested beg disciples of Jesus Christ. Eventuy, Navigius and Perpetua would come Church, but Auguste was an telligent, headstrong youth who was domated by his passions. He lived a rar dissolute life loose livg, carousg, and most distressg Sat Monica, Auguste had adopted Manichean heresy. The Manicheans believed that good and evil were equal powers. They held that material world was created by evil power and spiritual world was created by good power. This stands at odds with Dive Revelation where God, who is good, made both spiritual and material worlds, and saw that that He had made was good. Also, God has no equal ( devil is not God s counterpart on or end of spectrum, he is a created beg and re is an fite chasm between his power and God s). Sat Monica was determed, for sake of her son s salvation, brg him Catholic faith. She prayed for him unceasgly and followed him wherever he went for 17 years (despite her son s contual attempts avoid her). Along way, she would beg ors pray for her son, especiy priests whom she came for spiritual guidance and consolation. One such dividual, Sat Ambrose of Milan, ld her it is not possible that son of so many tears should perish. And, deed, he did not. After almost two decades of his mor s persistence, Auguste underwent a powerful conversion. He came Church, and was eventuy made a Bishop. Now, puttg his keen tellect God s service, he became greatest Christian thker Church s first thousand years and day is known as Sat Auguste, whose feast day is celebrated day after his mor s. If you know someone who is far from God and not practicg faith, resist temptation become discouraged. It ok Monica nearly two decades of persistent prayer and pesterg. She would, no doubt, have contued workg for her son s conversion until her last breath. Perhaps askg Sat Monica assist you with her prayers will yield greater spiritual success. 2
3 who believes him might not perish but might have eternal life. How can I be a good steward? Footprts - Similar a track left mud, humans have left our carbon footprt on world. Many dividuals are reluctant adopt environmenty friendly practices, due expense or mundane tedious tasks, so here are creative ways go reuse and recycle while also keepg your budget md: Use a reusable lunch bag or box, you won t need throw away a paper bag every day! When you make a purchase, don t take a bag unless you absolutely need one. Also consider re-usable shoppg bags! Rent thgs you use frequently stead of purchasg m. Use cloth stead of paper napks. Use a sponge or cloth stead of paper wels. Look for items with little or no packagg. Use reusable plastic contaers for food stead of plastic bags. These are simple precautions. Gods Before Guns cs for commonsense laws. Keep your kids safe: Just talkg your child about gun safety is not enough. Children are natury curious and open peer pressure. With a gun 40% of homes with children, keep your child safer: Always ask if re is a gun anor family s home and, if so, how it is secured, before sendg your child over play or your teen a party. If you have doubts, vite children play at your house. If you own a gun, secure it: Keep gun unloaded and locked up, with ammunition a separate lockbox, and keep keys with you at times. It will take less than a mute or two unlock and load if needed. Always check be sure re s not a bullet chamber before cleang a firearm When handlg or cleang, never leave a gun unattended, not even for a moment. Make sure that no one who is stayg or livg with you is keepg an unsecured firearm your house. Most school shooters use firearms taken from a relative s home. Don t let that weapon be yours.
