2 Welcome to the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run We are delighted that you have joined us for worship and want you to feel at home in this community of faith. Please join us after the service for a time of coffee and fellowship downstairs in Hoopes Hall. Church members will be happy to guide you. In the narthex (foyer) is a welcome packet for your family. Please take one before you leave and join us for this morning s activities. Prayer Cards are in each pew. Please feel free to write your requests on them and place them in the offering plate during the offertory. If you would like a call from the pastor, please note that on the card. Please sign the fellowship pad in your pew. Guests are encouraged to include their address and other information they may wish to share. Pass the pad to others in your row and get to know them. Children 3 years to 5 th grade are invited to Sunday School after the children s message during the service. Their teachers will walk them to their classrooms. All younger children are welcome in the nursery downstairs at any time. Parent pick-up: Children ages 3 to 1 st grade will be downstairs in the classroom next to the nursery. Children in 2 nd -5 th grade will be upstairs in the Sunday School wing. Exit the sanctuary by the elevator entrance near the choir loft for easy access to the Sunday School area. Look for signs to help guide your way! Large print bulletins are available. Just ask an usher. Hearing assistance - five sound enhancement units are available in the narthex. An elevator is located outside the door on the left at the front of the sanctuary. Restrooms are located off the foyer. *All who are able may stand.

This church is like a boat where you ve called us to join together to navigate the waters of life. We confess that we are often more like a rowboat, powered by our own will and determination. We pretend that we don t need you, and that we don t need each other. We believe that we can do church and life on our own. But God, this way of doing life and church is exhausting and lonely. And, we confess that we are wrong to think that we can navigate the waters of life by ourselves. We need you, and we need each other. Help us, O God, to be more like a sailboat. Help us to work hard together, using everyone s gifts, that we might hoist the sails and open ourselves up to be moved by the power of your Holy Spirit. 8 ANNOUNCEMENTS CHILDREN S MINISTRY New App for Parents Attention parents and guardians of our Sunday School and Nursery children! We will be using Seesaw to communicate special events, updates and pictures with you throughout the year. Seesaw is an app for any smart device and can also be found on the web. Each family will have their own folder and is private only with your log-in! You can even have grandparents, aunts/uncles and special friends view your folder to share the happenings here at church! ADULT EDUCATION & SMALL GROUPS God and the Game: Monday Night Football and The Fellowship of Men There s a new small group opportunity for men who are seeking the fellowship of other guys and a deeper connection with God. You don t have to be a football enthusiast to join this group; you simply have to enjoy watching the game and the camaraderie of other guys. Participants will enjoy watching the first half of the Monday Night Football game together. Then, at half time, group members will engage in a short devotion led by Pastor Kris. After the half time devotion, participants are free to leave. This group will meet each Monday of October starting at the 8:30 PM kick off in the Larson home. All Church Book Study: Sailboat Church We are asking our entire church to read the book, Sailboat Church, by former General Assembly Moderator, Joan Gray, and to join one of our six-week discussion groups. Rev. Gray uses her background in leadership to help churches think about whether they are a rowboat or sailboat church. Essentially, rowboat churches and sailboat churches both require work in order to get to where God s wants a church to go. But, the difference is where the energy comes from to move the boat. Discussion groups will be offered on Sunday mornings (before and after worship) and midweek mornings and evenings. We begin today and conclude before Thanksgiving. This book study only requires a short six-week commitment and will truly help us as a church to discern together the future mission and ministry we engage in. So, if you want your voice to be heard in this process, plan now to get the book (only $10.00 each) and join one of our Sailboat Church Discussion Groups.

9 COMMUNITY LIFE College Student Addresses Please make sure the church office has your student s current address. The church would like to keep in touch and SALT will be sending a goodie box in October. Newsletter Deadline The deadline for the November issue of the Deep Runner is next Sunday. Copy may be ed to the church office (office@pcdeeprun.org) or placed in the newsletter mailbox in the Communications Room. Quarterly Financial Statements Beginning this month, all financial statements will be ed to you. This will save the financial secretary a considerable amount of time and should be more convenient for you. If you do not have a computer, a hard copy will be printed and will be given to you. Please make sure that the church office has your current address by October 13 th. The third quarter statement will be sent out on October 14 th. MUSIC MINISTRY Organ Dedication and Concert The Presbyterian Church of Deep Run is pleased to announce the installation of our new Rodgers Artist 579 Organ and invites you to the Inaugural Concert this afternoon at 2:00 PM. Dan Miller, internationally renowned organist, will be here to demonstrate the capabilities of the new organ. Our own organist, Betty Trapp, will also offer selections. Don t miss this opportunity to celebrate this addition to our ability to worship God in the Deep Run community. MISSION & SERVICE CROP Hunger Walk Take a hike for hunger during the 34 th annual Pennridge CROP Walk for the Hungry this afternoon. Registration for the five-mile route begins at 12:30 PM at St. Andrew s Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Ave., Perkasie. The Walk, held rain or shine, begins at 1:15 PM. Registration for the shorter Golden Mile route begins at 12:30 PM at the Sellersville scout cabin in Lenape Park. Bring canned goods to donate to the Pennridge FISH food pantry. Twenty-five per cent of all proceeds go to Pennridge FISH for local hunger use. The remaining funds will be used by Church World Service and its partner agencies for hunger and disaster relief in the US and globally. See Carol Schmitt for a sponsor form.

10 Community Dinner The next Community Dinner is Monday, October 16 th. We're serving spaghetti and meat sauce with salad and garlic bread. We don't need any food donations; if desired, money can be donated to the community dinner account under mission committee, and/or donations of time, helping before, during or especially after the dinner for clean up. Thanks to all for your support!!! Church World Service Emergency Cleanup Buckets The Mission Committee is organizing a day for families and volunteers to assemble their own cleanup bucket on Friday, October 20 th to support hurricane relief in the southern U.S. The Mission Committee is requesting monetary donations for items to be sorted and prepared for assembly on October 20 th. Each emergency bucket with complete supplies is valued at $80. Mission has elected to collect monetary donations to ensure entire buckets are fully supplied without receiving more than one type of donated item. Stay tuned for more information during service announcements and information in the bulletins in the following weeks. Questions can be sent to Zack or Karen Johnson on the Mission Committee. Fish Updates Think of FISH when you are shopping and see a good deal. FISH can distribute just about any non-perishable item you donate as the need is so great! For this month, PCDR is focusing on the donation of canned vegetables, especially canned corn, canned soup, and fruit cocktail. Thank you for all your donations. Questions? Turkeys For Calvin The Mission Committee has voted again to provide full turkey dinners to Calvin Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving. These dinners are purchased from the Share Food Program, a nonprofit organization serving a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education and advocacy. Share promotes healthy living by providing affordable wholesome food to those willing to contribute through volunteerism. Each dinner includes one frozen turkey, 1 dessert, 1 container whipped topping, broccoli florets, Texas toast, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, apples, oranges, tangerines, green beans, corn, stuffing mix, mac & cheese, celery, and eggs. The cost of one dinner is only $33. Please consider donating to this outreach so that members of Calvin and the surrounding community will enjoy a delicious healthy meal on Thanksgiving. 11 The Parent/Family Support Group on Addiction If you are a parent/family member of someone struggling with addiction, we encourage you to join with others in our support group that meets the first and third Wednesday evenings each month at 7:00 PM in the Red School House. Parents/family members share experiences, offer support and hope to others in dealing with loved ones addiction. For more information, please batchof5@yahoo.com Mission Trip? We re looking for teenagers/adults wanting to go on a mission trip. The location has not been determined and will be based on interest of those involved.
