Dress up like a pirate!

2 May 7, 2017 EXPLORERS & TRAILBLAZERS Today s Key Point: A treasure is something valuable and meaningful. Treasures can be earthly items like money, toys, jewelry or they can be heavenly gifts like salvation, wisdom, love etc. God wants us to collect heavenly treasure! Bible Passages: Matthew 6:19-21, 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Introduction: Name something that you treasure. Discuss how you treat treasures. You keep them safe, you take care of them, you never lose them. Show video Treasures (Matthew 6:20-21) on flashdrive. Lesson: Read together Matthew 6:19-20 & 1 Timothy 6: Explain the difference between earthly treasures (things we can touch that can be lost, stolen or broken like toys, money and jewelry) and heavenly treasures (things we might not be able to touch, but are special blessings from God like love and wisdom). Say the memory verse together. What is the treasure in this verse? (instruction) Is God s instruction an earthly treasure or a heavenly treasure? (heavenly) Does God want us to collect more earthly or heavenly treasures? (heavenly) Ask each student to name an earthly and a heavenly treasure in his/her life. -Earthly vs Heavenly Treasure Sorting Game: Divide the class into groups of 3 or 4 students. Give each group an Earthly treasure sheet and a Heavenly Treasure sheet along with a stack of cards. Students Turn the cards face down. One at a time, a student flips over a card and reads it. The group decides together if it is earthly or heavenly treasure and the player puts the card face up on the correct board. Continue until all cards have been sorted. Go over the answers altogether as one big group. -Treasure Hunt: Before class, hide the paper heart, 10 commandments, open Bible and Cross. Give each student a treasure map to follow. Start by reading aloud Psalm 119:11. Ask students, Where do we hide God s Word? (in our HEART). Students should

3 color the heart on their map and then go search for the paper heart. On the back of the paper heart will be a clue. Read the clue and follow the directions. For each paper item found, students should color the corresponding picture on the map. Continue until the treasure is found!

4 May 14, 2017 EXPLORERS & TRAILBLAZERS Today s Key Point: People are God s special treasure. We too should treasure people in our lives. Bible Passages: Exodus 19:5, Deuteronomy 7:6 & James 1:18 Introduction: While students eat their snack, read aloud Tessa s Treasures. Lesson: Have students stand in a circle. Recite the memory verse together. Play music and pass a Bible around. When the music stops, the student holding the Bible chooses a friend to help him look up and read aloud Exodus 19:5. Ask, What does God treasure most? (His followers, those who obey Him) Repeat the Hot Potato game. This time when the music stops, the students look up and read Deuteronomy 7:6. Ask, What is God s favorite treasure? (us!) Explain that we are God s treasure and He wants us to treasure His Word and His people too! -Mother s Day cards -Watch Veggie Tales A Snoodle s Tale video

5 May 21, 2017 Today s Key Point: We should search God s Word for hidden treasures! The Bible says, seek and you will find Matthew 7:7-8! Bible Passages: Proverbs 2:1-7, Matthew 7:7-8 Introduction: While children eat snack, play the video Ask, Seek & Knock on flashdrive. Remind children that we treasure God s Word. (Show the treasure chest & The Bible inside.) Ask children if they like to play Hide & Seek. Explain that the words seek & search mean to look for. Tell children that today we are going to seek or search for treasure in God s Word. Lesson: Explorers: Ask children, Have you ever lost something and couldn t find it anywhere? How did you feel? Did you search for it? God s Word tells us that we will always find treasure in the Bible. But, we will have to look for it! Read aloud Proverbs 2:1-7 & Matthew 7:7-8. Divide the group into pairs or groups of 3. Give each pair an NLT Bible. Challenge children to look up the following verses: ROMANS 5:8 & ACTS 2:28. (If they find the right verse, a paper treasure will be taped inside the Bible on the 2 pages.) Ask children, What are 2 of the treasures that God gives to us? (Love & JOY) Trail Blazers: Same as above except use Hidden Treasure Scripture Search sheet. -Play Seek & Find - Send one child out of the room. The rest of the group agrees on a hiding place for the Bible. The child comes back in the room and searches for the Bible. Allow the group to give clues if needed. When the Bible is found, say, Seek and you will find! -Hidden Object Search sheets or Word Search Sheets

6 May 28, 2017 Explorers are invited to dress like a pirate today! Today s Key Point: Treasure Show and Tell Day Introduction: Show the two music videos Treasures and Ask, Seek and Knock on the flash drive. Lesson: Recite the memory verse together. Briefly review the difference between earthly and heavenly treasures. Discuss ways to treasure God s Word. -Give each student a turn to show and tell about his/her favorite treasure. -Play Seek & Find - Send one child out of the room. The rest of the group agrees on a hiding place for the Bible. The child comes back in the room and searches for the Bible. Allow the group to give clues if needed. When the Bible is found, say, Seek and you will find!
