Thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer is the most popular and widely known prayer in the Christian church. Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox and Evangelical congregations all share it. This prayer has been repeated down through the centuries by millions and millions of people in different languages and different cultures. I, like many of you, learned the prayer in childhood but it takes on new rich layers of meaning as we go through adulthood. Lord, said the disciples, Teach us to pray. And in response Jesus said, Pray then like this. Our Father who art in heaven The prayer that Jesus taught his disciples is found with slight variation in Matthew 6:9-13 and in Luke 11:1-4. What does this prayer mean? Do we understand everything we are saying when we take these words on our lips? What guidance does the Lord s Prayer give us for our own conversations with God? This month I ll be preaching a series of sermons on the Lord s Prayer and its meaning for our daily lives. Come and worship with us on Sunday mornings. 3 FIRST WEDNESDAY WOMEN S GROUP We ve just completed our first full year of monthly dinner gatherings. Always such a fun evening sharing a meal, laughter and stories. Not bad for a totally informal group that isn t even a committee! Jen Troy s wonderful idea really took off thank you Jen! Please - if anyone ever wants to organize something different, or wants to help out with the signup and coordination, just say so; either would be welcomed. PLEASE LET THE CHURCH OFFICE KNOW IF YOU ARE IN OR PLANNING TO BE IN THE HOSPITAL. WE WOULD LIKE TO KEEP YOU IN OUR PRAYERS. THE 2018 FLOWER CHART is posted in the Gathering Room. 5 . A NOTE FROM ANN Fall for Music! Many thanks to our talented lineup of artists who performed in church over the summer. We truly have depth and a wide spectrum of musical genres in our gracious members and friends who helped us make worship even more meaningful. The SBCC Choir will resume our season of singing on Homecoming/Rally Day, September 9. New members, including teens, are welcome to join us just meet us in the Choir Room on Sundays at 9AM. For any shy singers that want to try it, extra help is available! Looking forward to our fall season of worship and music! BOARD OF FAITH FORMATION The SBCC Youth Garden is bursting! We are taking turns tending to the garden, weeding, picking, and most importantly, delivering our produce to the Food Bank. All are welcome to help once, a few times, or on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in helping with this project, please amybsmith1120@gmail.com. This is both a fun and very rewarding project! Plans for a youth group are in progress for the upcoming year. Please let Amy or Krista know if you want to participate, or have any friends who would like to come check out our group. We are looking to "grow" our group this year; youth group members do not have to be church members or attend services. The planned format is to include positive service as well as social opportunities throughout the year. Youth group is appropriate for ages 13 and over; however, younger participants are welcome to join us with an accompanying adult. Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements! We are looking for donations of ribbon, strips of cloth and remnants that can be cut into strips. Any color or pattern will do. There is a basket in the Gathering Room to receive your donations.

6 If you are interested in joining in the Washington DC mission trip next spring, please let Amy Smith know at or by cell at Though it is a long way away, planning starts now and depends largely on having a good idea of how many people will be participating. This trip is open to church members, associate members, and friends, ages 13 and up. We have already had work requests for the "hire a teen" fundraiser, so there are opportunities for fundraising to help defray the cost of this trip. If you are ready to start fundraising, please let Amy Smith know right away so participants can be matched with those requesting some help at home. RALLY DAY Faith Formation will kick off on September 9 with Rally Day. Come and join us for the 10 am service. The service will be Weaving Our Lives Together With God. The service will include both young and old. Invite a friend or family member to join us as we worship together. There will be a reception following the service in the Gathering Room. Faith Formation is taking orders for Apple Festival T shirts. Proceeds to go to the mission trip fund. Cost $15 per shirt. 7 BOARD OF OUTREACH Our Outreach Offering for September will be for Ann s Place in Danbury. Ann s Place provides help and hope to those living with cancer and their loved ones. Their clinical social workers, facilitators and wellness experts provide a host of services aimed at improving quality of life during and after cancer. Ann s Place also has an Amazon wish list for wanted items. For more information go to annsplace.org. Every year we donate 200 bagged lunches to GWIM and this year we chose Columbus Day- October 8th. We ll make 200 pb and j sandwiches as usual but we need the following items to complete the bagged lunches: 200 juice boxes, 200(easy to chew) granola bars, and 200 applesauce/fruit cups. The deadline for donations is September 30th so we ll have time to purchase anything we need before the Brigade on the 7th.There will be a box in the Narthex for donations. On Sunday, August 5, SBCC congregants were treated to a visit from Wilbur and Macy Gray, two temporary residents of Whisker's Pet Rescue and their volunteers Jeannie and Jackie. Our visitors were welcome additions to our after church gathering on the green and it gave everybody a chance to see where their generous Outreach donation of money and supplies is headed. Many thanks to everyone at SBCC. Thanks to Amy Smith and the Youth Group for making 246 sandwiches for GWIM in July. Thanks also to Kris Cody and family for filling the 20 backpacks for Covenant to Care.SBCC has donated backpacks every year for at least the past 10 years thanks to all of your generous contributions!
