1 VERNON VENTURES A Monthly Publication of Vernon Presbyterian Church Big Bend, Wisconsin March 2016 VERNON VENTURES April 2018 April 2018 What s Inside Pastor s Note Pg. 1-2 Worship Leaders Pg. 2 Birthdays/ Anniv Pg. 3 Food Pantry Pg. 3 Events Pg. 3 VAA Pg. 4 Calendar Pg. 5 Church Contact Information: Pastor Claire Beutler-Cruise Phone: pastor@vernonpres.org Office Hours: Tuesday: 1-4pm Thursday: 9-12pm Call for appointment Christ is RISEN! Christ is RISEN, INDEED!! Hallelujah!! This is the Easter mantra of the Christian Church not that this season is the only time we use these words. We claim to be an Easter people people who trust that these words are true for ALL time. Not only do we have God s promise that death hasn t the final word over our lives God s Word is the final word, as Jesus Christ demonstrates, being the firstborn of the dead we also have new life right now. In the Presbyterian Church (PC-USA) we value our risen life the new life we have through Jesus Christ, who gave his life out of overwhelming love for humanity...for each and every one of us. We rise anew each morning to new possibilities for living in the way Jesus modeled for us; for seeing our lives in new ways; for seeing the lives of others as valuable and beloved as we are to God; FOR NOTHING CAN SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS! In Christ Jesus we have opportunities we may have never imagined possible for us. Do you ever wonder what people from Jesus time would think if they were plopped into our world today? Could they have imagined airplanes, trains and cars? Computers, smart phones and the internet? These are all things that have been invented in the last century give or take a decade or two! What will the world look like in a century from now? 1
2 To be honest, sometimes I shudder to think about it! But our God-given human intelligence, curiosity, imagination and scientific research have brought us many ways to improve life and make it more sustainable when we use them for good and not evil. There is even talk about extending the human life span beyond anything we ve seen before. As I ve often been known to quote from the old TV show, M.A.S.H.: we ll see then we ll know! In the mean time, I m looking forward to that great reunion, when all God s people are reunited in God s kin-dom, where we are all related to God and to each other. Just as the disciples and friends rejoiced upon seeing Jesus risen from the dead, what a celebration that will be! We could even start NOW, dismantling the human-made divisions among us, for There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 Christ IS RISEN! And we are, too! Hallelujah! +Pastor Claire WORSHIP LEADERS FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL DATE USHER GREETER COUNTER LAY READER April Ron & Barb Ron & Barb Schwartz s Bev 01 Zimmerman Zimmerman W.
