1 1 March 11, 2018 PRE-K Bible Focus: Jesus says, Follow Me. Andrew and Peter; John and James Matthew 4:18-22 Memory Verse: Come and follow me, Jesus said. Matthew 4:19, NIV Key Question: Who can you follow? Bottom Line: I can follow Jesus. Basic Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Make It True (Large Group, 20 minutes) Historyteller Greets children at the door as music plays. CG: Welcome Slide ( Amazing Things ) Stop music once all classes are in and on a line. Worship What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Matthew 4:19. HISTORYTELLER: Good morning, everyone! It s so good to see you today. I can t wait to sing with you. But first, tell me: Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus. HISTORYTELLER: Yes, that s right! Let s sing our awesome new song all about how Jesus wants to be our friend forever. SFX: Friend Forever Yay! What incredible singers you are. Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus. HISTORYTELLER: That s right! [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus. Our memory verse tells us the Jesus wants us to follow Him. Let s practice it. Are you ready to do it with me? (Pause.) Let s do it!
2 2 CG: Memory Verse Slide Come (motion toward yourself with hand) and follow me (march), Jesus said (hands to mouth like yelling), Matthew 4:19. (Open your hands like a book.) Let s do it again. CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: Come (motion toward yourself with hand) and follow me (march), Jesus said (hands to mouth like yelling), Matthew 4:19. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat several times.) HISTORYTELLER: Way to go! We can follow Jesus. Jesus is God s Son, and He came to do amazing things. He is so good always! Let s sing another song. SFX: Always I love praising Jesus together with you. He is AMAZING, and He loves us all so much. Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus. HISTORYTELLER: Yes you can! That would be a smart and a great thing to do. Hey, I think the thing to do right now is have a seat so we can visit our friends in the Clubhouse. Introductory Sketch CG: Intro Sketch Video Bible History Lesson What You Need: Bible, Fishermen stick puppets, Children stick puppets, and a Styrofoam block large enough to stand all of the puppets in/on. What You Do: (Note: You will use the fishermen stick figures again next week.) What You Say: HISTORYTELLER: I have a Bible Truth I want to tell you about how four (hold up four fingers) fishermen followed someone VERY special. And if it s from the Bible, we know it s TRUE, right? (Pause.) Right! (Open Bible and hold it.) If you want to hear a TRUTH from the Bible, clap your hands four times. (Pause for claps.) Sounds like you re ready!
3 3 Our Bible Truth begins with two brothers named Peter and Andrew. (Hold up Peter and Andrew stick people and stick them down in the Styrofoam.) (Point to the two stick people as you count them.) One. Two. Peter and Andrew were fishermen. Every day they would get up early, take a big, huge net down to the water, and throw it in. Let s pretend we re fishing and we have a big net that we re throwing into the water. Grab your pretend net. When I count to three, throw it into the water. Ready? Let s count to three and throw our nets in the water! One, two, three! (Pretend to throw a net into the water.) Good throw! Once Peter and Andrew threw their net into the water, they waited to see if any fish would jump in it. While they were waiting, Jesus came walking by. Jesus called out to Peter and Andrew and said (cup hands around mouth), Come follow Me! Peter and Andrew left their fishing net and went to where Jesus was standing. Jesus talked to them about how every day they come out to catch fish, but now Jesus wanted them to follow Him and help tell people about how much God loves them. It would be like catching people for God! Can you guess what Peter and Andrew did? (Pause.) They followed Jesus! But Jesus didn t stop there. When He saw two more fishermen brothers named James and John,... (Hold up James and John stick people and place them down into the Styrofoam.)... He called out to them and said (cup hands around mouth), Come follow Me! And they did! James and John followed Jesus, just like Peter and Andrew did. That made four people following Jesus. Count with me! (Point to figures as you count.) CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: One, two, three, four! HISTORYTELLER: Wow! Four people were following Jesus. But God s amazing Truth doesn t stop there. We can follow Jesus too! (Place the four children figures into the Styrofoam one at a time as you say you. )
4 4 Jesus wants you and you and you and (point to children) ALL of you to follow Him so He can teach you about God and how to do things God s way. Then we can tell people how much God loves them! (Close the Bible and lay it aside if you haven t already done so.) Tell me: Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus! HISTORYTELLER: Louder! Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus! HISTORYTELLER: You got it! That s the truth, friends. You better believe it! Exit Sketch CG: Exit Sketch Video Offering and Prayer SFX: How Great is our God? Music Plays as the offering container is passed around Bring volume down to signify prayer time. HISTORYTELLER: Let s close our eyes and pray now. Dear God, thank You for Jesus and that we can follow Him. I pray that every person in this room will choose to follow Jesus so they can be with You forever and learn how to live Your way. God, You are so good and we love You very much. In Jesus name, amen. (Give Bible a hug and lay it open in front of you.) Today s Bible Truth is about Jesus and how He wants us to follow Him. (Set the Jesus figurine in front of the children) Let s pretend this is Jesus. Say hi to Jesus! CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: Hi, Jesus! (Move the puppets like they are walking and talking as you tell the Bible Truth.) HISTORYTELLER: One day, Jesus was walking and He saw two men named Peter and Andrew. (Set two of the puppets in the Styrofoam block, in front of the children.) Say hi to Peter and Andrew. CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: Hi, Peter and Andrew! HISTORYTELLER: Jesus told Peter and Andrew to follow Him and help Him tell people how much God loves them. Peter and Andrew said yes to Jesus and off they went!
7 7 Later, Jesus saw two more men named James and John. (Set two more of the puppets in the block.) Say hi to James and John. CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: Hi, James and John! HISTORYTELLER: Jesus told James and John the same thing. He told James and John to follow Him and help Him tell people how much God loves them. James and John said yes to Jesus and off they went! Peter, Andrew, James, and John all followed Jesus, and you can too! You and you and you and you... (point to each child as you say you ) can follow Jesus! Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus! HISTORYTELLER: Who can you follow? CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] I can follow Jesus! HISTORYTELLER: Yes, you can follow Jesus! Exit Sketch CG: Exit Sketch Video Prayer Music Plays as the offering container is passed around SFX: How Great is our God? HISTORYTELLER: Thank you for being such great listeners today. Now let s close our eyes and put our hands in our lap so we can talk to God. Dear God, thank You for our good friend, Jesus.
