3 April 10, 2016 Basic Truth: God loves me. Key Question: Who can you love? Bottom Line: I can love God and love people. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39, NIV Bible Story Focus: We can love God and love people with our friends. Early Church Acts 2:42-47 Make It Fun Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your 2-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Show Me Show Me is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while children use gross motor skills to act out the word. What You Need: Nothing needed. Before the Activity: Guide kids to stand in a circle with you. During the Activity: Call out different words and tell the kids act them out. After the Activity: Sit down and introduce the Bible story. Before the Activity: Hello, boys and girls! Come stand in a circle with me. During the Activity: We are going to play a game where you act out the word I say. Ready? (Pause.) The first word is eating. Show me what eating looks like. (Pause.) Great job! Okay, the second word is praying. What does it look like when you are praying? (Pause.) That s good! Okay, the next word is reading. Show me what reading looks like. (Pause.) Fabulous! 4 does it look like to share? (Pause.) You guys are awesome at this! (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: That was so much fun! We are going to hear more about those words in our Bible story today. 2. What s in the Basket? What s in the Basket? is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while encouraging kids to guess and identify the items in the basket. What You Need: Picnic basket, play food, toy plates, and toy utensils Before the Activity: Place all the items in the basket. During the Activity: Encourage kids to reach in, grab an item, and guess what it is before pulling it out. Then tell them to pull it out and identify it. Repeat as many times as desired. After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story. Before the Activity: Hey, friends! Do you know what this is? (Pick up the picnic basket.) It s a picnic basket! We are going to play a guessing game to figure out what s inside the basket! During the Activity: Reach inside and pick one thing, but don t pull it out yet. What do you think it is? (Pause.) Okay, pull it out and show everybody what it is. (Pause.) It s a (say what the item is). Let s do it again. (Continue with each child and repeat if desired.) Wow! Great job! After the Activity: That was so much fun guessing what all was in the picnic basket. I love eating a picnic with my friends. 5 April 10, 2016 Basic Truth: God loves me. Key Question: Who can you love? Bottom Line: I can love God and love people. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Early Church Acts 2:42-47 Make It True Help the kids worship and listen to the Bible story. Make It Stick Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Early Church Early Church is an activity that retells the Bible story while the children identify different pictures that go along with the story. What You Need: Eating, Praying, Singing, and Sharing from the Activity Pages found on the Website, and cardstock Before the Activity: Copy Eating, Praying, Singing, and Sharing on cardstock. During the Activity: Retell the Bible story as kids call out the actions on the pictures held up. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line. Curriculum Materials for 2-year-olds 2016 The rethink Group. 6 Before the Activity: Our Bible story today is about the church the very first church in the Bible. During the Activity: But friends, can you have a church without people? (Pause.) No! You need people to make the church. The very first church was just a group of people who loved God and loved people. Every time they met, they (hold up the picture of people eating) ate together. They also (hold up the picture of people praying) prayed together. They (hold up the picture of people singing) sang to God together. And they shared what they had together. (Hold up the picture of kids sharing.) If someone needed shoes, one guy would take his off and give it to the other guy. If someone needed a teddy bear and someone else had two, they shared! And you know what? Every time they helped each other, their hearts became happier and happier. After the Activity: This is how God wants the church to be! He wants US to be people who eat together and pray together and share what we have. God wants us to love Him and to love each other, just like the people in the very first church did! Who can you love? [Bottom Line] I can love God and love people! 2. The Path to Love The Path to Love is an activity that encourages kids to follow the paths to different areas in the room to find early church actions. What You Need: Painter s tape, toy food and plates, Bibles or books, and heart stickers Before the Activity: Make a dotted line on the floor around the room. Stop the dotted line at three different spots. Place toy food and plates at one spot, Bibles or books in the second, and the heart stickers at the last stop. During the Activity: Have the kids walk with you along the dotted line. Stop at the food spot. Talk about the early church and how eating together was a way to show love to God and people. Continue on the dotted lines to the next stop. Talk about the early church and how reading together was a way to show love to God and people. Continue on the dotted lines to the next stop. Talk about the early church and how praying together was a way to show love to God and people. Stay at this stop and talk about how sharing is also a way to show love to God and people. Give each child a heart sticker. Follow the line back to the beginning and have a seat. After the Activity: Sit down and say the Bottom Line together. 7 Before the Activity: Hey friends, come stand with me over here. Let s follow the dotted line and see where it leads us. During the Activity: Follow me. (Pause.) Look! There s toy food and plates right here. Eating together is one of the ways the early church showed they could love God and love people. Follow me! (Pause.) There are Bibles and books here. Reading and studying God s Word was another one of the ways the early church showed they could love God and love people. Follow me! (Pause.) There s nothing here. Another one of the ways the early church showed how to love God and love people was by praying together. Put your praying hands together. (Pause.) Thank You, God, for everything. Amen. There is one other way we can show our love for God and people, and that is by sharing. I have a love sticker that I want to share with each of you. Follow me back to the beginning. (Pause.) Super job! Now find a seat on the floor. After the Activity: You guys did a great job following and learning how the early church showed their love for God and people. Who can you love?
