Relocated Bible Truth: Relocated (Abraham) Genesis 12 Bottom Line: God made you for an adventure. Memory Verse: Fore we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10, NIV Life App: Uniqueness discovering who God made you to be so you can make a difference. Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what. Social: Setting the Tone for the Experience (9:00, 10:15, 11:30) Choose Your Own Adventure No supplies needed Bible: Communicating God s Truth in Engaging Ways (9:15, 10:30, 11:45) Bible Presentation in Large Group Prayer (9:50, 11:05, 12:20) No supplies needed Dismiss (10:00, 11:15, 12:30) 1
Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Before kids arrive, pray for each regular attendee by name. Pray for those who might visit your group for the first time. Pray for the kids who may feel like they re too young to experience an adventure or do anything that would be considered big. Ask God to help kids understand that the adventure begins now and it starts with embracing who God made them to be. Choose Your Own Adventure What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Play a round of Choose Your Own Adventure by creating a story with the kids in your group. Give one story starter from the list below and let the kid on your left add a line to the story. Continue moving around the circle, encouraging each kid to add to the story. Anything added must line up and make sense with the rest of the story. In other words, each line that s added must move the story along. At random times throughout the story, say PAUSE! and give a new prompt to add to the story from the Prompt List below. After the PAUSE! and the new story prompt, the next kid has to add their line to it to fit the rest of the story. If the prompts below are too farfetched for the story the kids are creating, say PAUSE and create your own new story prompt. But try to make it super silly or farfetched if possible. Story starters 1. Little Johnny was a curious boy who loved to go fishing. One day Toni loved her family and bugs. Of course, some days she loved bugs most, but that was because her little brother was always getting into her stuff. One day Andre is nine. He has one brother, one sister, two dogs, and no cats. Cats make him sneeze. But he really, really wants a cat. One day Today was not a great day. In fact, it was the worst day ever. Prompts 1. All of a sudden a big, giant snake slithered out. 2. He/she froze, terrified. Right before his/her eyes, there was a huge (fill in the blank with something that makes sense). 3. And right then, his nose grew three sizes larger. Suddenly, he could smell things that were miles away. 4. But the day started to turn around because finally... What You Say: Wow, that was quite an adventure! Let s head to Large Group where we ll hear about someone who went on a pretty crazy adventure of his own a LONG time ago. Pay attention and see if you can tell me after Large Group who our adventurer is! Lead your group to the Large Group area. 2
Relocated Bible Truth: Relocated (Abraham) Genesis 12 Bottom Line: God made you for an adventure. 4 Relocated Bible Truth: Relocated (Abraham) Genesis 12 Bottom Line: God made you for an adventure. Bible: Communicating God s Truth in Engaging Ways (Large Group, 35 minutes) Engage kids hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible Truth, worship, and prayer experience in a Large Group setting. SFX: Play high-energy music as kids enter. CG: Gadgets and Gizmos Theme Slide Host greats children as they enter. Opener Have you ever tried virtual reality goggles? They are so cool! They can send you on an adventure without ever leaving home. I was just sword fighting! And what a fight it was! He was a worthy adversary, but I was victorious. I only have one set of goggles, or else I d let everyone try it. But hey, that gives me an idea! Why don t we make our own unique virtual reality game? After all, all month long we re taking a closer look at uniqueness. CG: Uniqueness Slide Uniqueness is discovering who God made you to be so you can make a difference. God made each one of you special; no one is just like you. God also made us for a unique purpose, just like the volunteer I need right now! Which one of my Small Group Leaders thinks they re unique enough to star in our virtual reality game? Here, you re going to need this. Choose an adult volunteer from the audience and bring them on stage. Hand the volunteer the pool noodle. In this virtual world, you are surrounded by monkeys and you want to try and keep them away from you, which means we need a few monkeys. I need three volunteers who are courageous and nimble. Choose three kids from the audience and bring them 4
onstage. Have them stand behind the designated line on the stage. You three are going to play the part of the monkeys. You want to try and touch [SGL s name] s arms or legs without being hit by the pool noodle. If the pool noodle touches you, you have to back up behind the line and try again. Every time you touch [SGL s name], you get a point. But every time he hits one of you with the noodle, he gets a point. I m going to need two score keepers. Choose two more SGLs from the audience and bring them onstage. Tell one to keep score for the monkeys and the other to keep score for the SGL playing the game. We ll see who has the most points at the end of one minute. On your marks, get set, oh wait! I almost forgot. This is virtual reality, so you need your goggles. There, now we re ready. On your marks, get set, go! Optional CG: 1-minute countdown Put the blindfold on the SGL playing the game. While in close proximity of the SGL, encourage them not to swing the pool noodle too forcefully, especially if some of the monkeys are younger. As the game progresses, give updates of the score. And the time is up! What a fight! Let s see how everyone did. What was the final score for our monkeys? (Pause for response.) And the final score for [SGL s name]? (Pause for response.) We have a winner! Let s hear it for all our volunteers. Collect the props and dismiss the volunteers from stage. I love a good adventure! And today that s exactly what we re learning about! But it s not just any adventure! Fighting off monkeys would be a wild adventure, but God has something planned for you that is even better! Let s find out more. Host exits as Historyteller enters. SETTING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: Hey, everyone! So good to see you all! Did you know that before you were born, before your parents were born, before their parents parents were born, and even before God created the world, God had an adventure planned just for you? It s true! He knew what you would be like and where you would live and what you would like to do. The Bible is full of stories about people who went on an adventure for God. And in our Bible Truth today, we get to find out what happened when God sent two people on a very important adventure! Let s get right into it. 5
ABRAHAM'S ADVENTURE HISTORYTELLER: Abram and his wife Sarai, who you might know better as Abraham and Sarah, were both very old and lived in a place called Haran. Listen to what God told Abraham one day (open Bible to Genesis 12:1): Go from your country, your people and your father s family. Go to the land I will show you (NIrV). Did you catch that?! God told Abraham to pack up everything they owned and to move away from Haran. God didn t say where to move exactly, but He did promise Abraham that He would make him the father of a great nation, and people everywhere would know about him and what God did for him. Pretty cool, huh? Could you imagine being Abraham? It must have been scary to think about leaving behind everything you had ever known your friends, your family, your favorite places to hang out and play. On top of that, Abraham didn t have Google Maps or even an exact final destination. God just told him to go! Have you ever read a comic book or watched a superhero TV show where the hero just sits around and plays video games all day? No! CG: Abraham s Adventure Slide God called Abraham and Sarah to an adventure! It was scary and they didn t know what was going to happen, but they were obedient to God and left Haran. Along the way, Abraham set up altars dedicated to the Lord where they worshipped God. Because of their obedience, like God had promised, Abraham and Sarah became very important in the history of the church. Abraham was the great-great-great-great-great-many-more-greats grandfather of Jesus! And remember how God said that Abraham would be known to people everywhere? We re still talking about him today! Now that s famous. What an adventure God had for Abraham and Sarah! MY ADVENTURE Historyteller Note: Feel free to edit this section based on your unique skills and adventures. HISTORYTELLER: Now, I realize that you and I don t pack up a camel and roll up any tent homes with each new adventure God puts in front of us like Abraham did. So let s see how our adventures might work with a scenario. Think about me for a second. Could God use my unique interests for an adventure? CG: My Adventure Slide Maybe you re like me and you love swimming. I love diving off the diving board, playing sharks and minnows, and playing king of the hill on the swim rafts. What if I notice a group of kids struggling to swim next time I m at the public pool and I feel God prompting me to help? I could use my love for swimming to teach others to swim and help others have the same love for swimming as I have! That could be my adventure. WHAT'S YOUR UNIQUE ADVENTURE? HISTORYTELLER: And it s not just me, either! God has a unique adventure just for you too! 6
CG: Your Adventures Slide I need four volunteers who want to go on an adventure right here on stage. While Historyteller gets volunteers from the audience, Stagehand can bring the four balloons on stage. In each of these balloons is an example of an adventure that God may have for you. One at a time, you can take this thumbtack and pop a balloon so we can see what adventure is inside. [Volunteer #1 s name], you can pick the first balloon. (To the crowd) Which balloon do you think he should choose? CG: Move Adventure Slide One at a time, allow the volunteers to pick and pop a balloon. When there is only one balloon left, still ask the audience, as if they have a choice. After each balloon is popped, retrieve the paper inside, unfold it and show it to the audience. You can also put the picture on the screen. Respond with the corresponding paragraph based on the image. Wow! You re going on a moving adventure. Good one! So, like Abraham, God may be calling your family to move. Moving can be scary, but if you face it with excitement, it can be a great adventure! Maybe you ll have new neighbor who really needs someone to help them with yard work and you can show them Jesus love by helping pull weeds. Or maybe in your new school you ll meet a new friend who might need some encouragement. You can tell them all about Jesus and maybe even invite them to church. What a unique adventure! CG: School Adventure Slide School. Yep, school can lend itself to some amazing adventures. Maybe at school, you could find ways to serve others. Ask your teacher how you can help her in the classroom. Maybe you can pick up the room before going to recess or push in everyone s chairs. Or you can serve your class by letting others be the line leader. Or at lunch you can serve your friends by throwing away their trash. Maybe that s your next adventure! CG: Nursing Home Adventure Slide A nursing home, huh? Well, maybe you have a grandparent who lives in a nursing home. Your next adventure could be visiting with other people there who don t have any family who comes to see them. You could sit with them and listen to their funny stories. You could draw them pictures and tell them about what you learn here. You could share the memory verse with them and talk about what adventures they ve been on. That would be a great adventure for God! CG: Sports Adventure Slide Sports! Yes! Yeah, some of you might play a sport or take dance lessons or music lessons. How can 7
God use those to take you on an adventure? Well, maybe you have a person on your team who is having a hard time learning the plays. Maybe YOU can help them. Or what if God is giving you opportunities to share your music or dance talents with others? An adventure could be playing piano or singing a song for someone. God can use all of your gifts no matter what they are to help others. After all the balloons have been popped, dismiss the volunteers from the stage. WRAPPING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: Wow! Those sound like some pretty amazing adventures, and those are just a few ideas that God may have in mind for you. It s like our Bottom Line for today. Let s take a look at that. CG: Bottom Line Slide [Bottom Line] God made you for an adventure. Can you say that with me? HISTORYTELLER AND KIDS: [Bottom Line] God made you for an adventure! HISTORYTELLER: That s right! God doesn t want your life to be boring. He wants you to be courageous and willing to obey and go, even if you don t know how it will turn out. And God has a unique adventure just for you! Let s pray together. Pray HISTORYTELLER: God, thank You for making us for adventure. Help us to have the courage to obey even when the adventure seems scary. In our small groups, help us to see the unique adventures that You have for each of us. Thank You for being faithful and always being with us. We love You and pray these things in Jesus name, amen. If you have an offering with you today, rise your hand and we ll bring the bucket over to you. Now, up on your feet! It s time for some praise and worship. Worship POWER PRAISE: Yes, it s time to worship. Everybody stand up to your feet. We are going to sing our new song called Rock This Planet. I LOVE it! As we live out the adventure that God has for us, we can tell others about Him and show them His love. That s what this song is all about. Let s sing it loud together and rock this planet! SFX: Rock This Planet Oh, that was super fun. Way to go. We serve a good God who has good things in store for us as we go out and rock this planet. As we continue to put our faith and trust in Him, He will continue to lead us on the adventure we were made for. Let s worship God now. SFX: Look at Me During this next song, we want to invite you to pray with us if there is something on your heart that you want to lift up to God right now. 8
SFX: Close Wonderful job everyone! We will see you all next week! Have a safe week. Power Praise exits as Host enters. Closer HOST: So, [Historyteller s name] is right! God does have a unique adventure just for you. And do you know what? You re living that adventure right now one that is way cooler than any virtual reality game. Your adventure looks different than anyone else s because God made it unique for just you. And while it s true that sometimes our adventures could get scary or we might not always know the next step we re supposed to take, there s something we need to remember. [Basic Truth] You can trust God no matter what! God made you for something amazing, and you can trust Him to help you do it. Our memory verse for this month has something to say about that too. Let s take a look at it. CG: Memory Verse Slide For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIrV). God created us to do something good to help change this world, and that will be quite an adventure worth taking. In your small groups, you re going to talk more about how God made you for an adventure and what your unique adventure looks like. Have fun with your groups, and we ll see you next week! CG: Prayer Group Slide Dismiss children to their Prayer Groups. 9
Pray and Dismiss (10 minutes) What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Ask the kids to pair up. Once in pairs, have the kids share an adventure they d love to go on. What You Say: You talked about some pretty amazing adventures! Who knows where you ll go or what you ll do someday! Well, wait, who DOES know? That s right: GOD! He already knows about the plans He has for you. Your job is to continue to learn how He s made you and to trust Him to show you all the adventures ahead. I m so glad that [Bottom Line] God made you for an adventure. Let s pray. God, we love You. Thank You for the reminder today that You are with us and that You have made us for adventure! Help us to trust You like Abraham did. Show us where You want us to go and how You ve uniquely created us for all the adventures ahead. In Jesus name, amen. As parents arrive to pick up, encourage the kids to tell their parents or guardians about the crazy adventure Abraham went on in our Bible story today! 10
