2 2 Social (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes) Let one teacher lead activities in different areas of the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. What You Need: A table jail (Table with black streamers taped to it) During the Activity: Encourage the children to crawl under the table and play in the jail. Before the Activity: Look at our table! It looks like a jail! During the Activity: There is a jail in our Bible Truth today. Let s go in and out of the jail and play before we hear our TRUE Bible story! (Do activity.) After the Activity: That was so much fun going in and out of the jail! Now let s get ready to hear our exciting Bible Truth! Transition: Move to Large Group by saying chanting this month s Bottom Line: [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus, as you walk to the Large Group area.

3 3 Find the People Made to Play: An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts What You Need: People Activity Page, gallon-sized zip-top bags filled with shaving cream (1 per child), and masking tape Before the Activity: Tape the bags to the table over each People page. During the Activity: Encourage the children to stand behind one of the Activity Pages on the table. Encourage them to move their fingers over the shaving cream to reveal the people underneath the bags. Talk about how we can find the people who need to hear the BIG NEWS about Jesus! After the Activity: Collect the bags of shaving cream from the table and discard. During the Activity: Is everyone standing in front of a bag of shaving cream? (Pause.) Okay, I want you to use one finger like this to roll over the bag and find the picture underneath. (Demonstrate.) What do you see? (Pause.) People! How many people can you find? (Pause.) Wow! Great job, everyone. You had to find the four people on the page. Way to go! After the Activity: You know, we need to find some people too. Did you know that there are lots and lots of people who do not know the BIG NEWS about Jesus? It s true! Today we ll hear about some men from the Bible who traveled around telling others the big news about Jesus. I can t wait! Transition: Move to Large Group by pretending to search for people who need to hear the BIG NEWS about Jesus. Children can walk on tiptoes to search high and crouch down to search low; they can look right or left; etc. Bible (Large Group, 20 minutes) After children have participated in Social, gather them for a large group time that includes interactive worship, introductory sketch and Bible Truth. Place your We are in The Sandbox sign on the door as you leave. Travel to the Sandbox.

4 4 Journaling (Small Groups, 5 minutes) Journaling is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Give each child a cup of Chex cereal to snack on while you take them through the following exercise. What you Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Matthew 28:19. Journal and a fun-shaped pen. Reward stamps. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Small Group time! Let s sit down and talk about today s Bible Truth. One, two, three, sit down with me! Our today s Bible Truth was about two guys named Paul and Silas. They did something really hard too. Do you remember the hard thing they did? (Pause for response.) Yes, even though the people had put them in jail, Paul and Silas told them the BIG NEWS that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. If Paul and Silas can do the hard job of telling others the BIG NEWS about Jesus in jail, we can for sure tell people the BIG NEWS about Jesus where we live! Who can tell others about Jesus? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus! SGL: Who can tell others about Jesus? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus! (Open Bible to verse.) SGL: Yes, you can, even when it s hard. And when you do, you are doing what our Bible verse tells us to do. It says: Go and make disciples of all nations, Matthew 28:19. (Close Bible and lay it down.)

5 5 Let s say that together with the motions so we can remember to go and tell others the BIG NEWS about Jesus. Just say what I say and do what I do. CHILDREN and SGL: Go (run in place) and make (pound fist into palm) disciples (hold the hand of the friend next to you) of all nations (extend arms over your head in a circle), Matthew 28:19. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with motions a few times.) SGL: You sound amazing! Learning that verse doesn t sound hard for you. Some other things are hard, so let s sit down and make a list of things that are hard to do for our prayer and journal time. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) Let s think about things that are hard to do. It could be tying your shoes, learning to swim, or cleaning your room without any help. When I say your name, tell me one thing that is hard to do. (Write each child s name and what they say beside their name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) Thank you for helping make this list. I m going to add telling others the BIG NEWS about Jesus, because sometimes that is hard too, just like it was for Paul and Silas. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for always being with us and helping us do hard things. Thank You for helping [child s name] (say hard thing they listed). (Repeat for each child.) And thank You for helping us tell others about Jesus, even when it s hard. We want everyone to know the BIG NEWS that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever. We love You, God! In Jesus name, amen.

6 6 Groups (Application Activities, 25 minutes) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible Truth and Bottom Line. Jail Birds Live for God Application Activity Made to Create: An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible Truth, Bottom Line, or memory verse by creating a craft What You Need: Jail Activity Page, black washi tape, and crayons Before the Activity: Copy the Jail Bird Activity Page onto cardstock. Provide one per child. During the Activity: Let the children use the crayons to color their pages. Then encourage them to place the black washi tape anywhere they would like to on the page to create the bars of the jail. During the Activity: Let s color our pages together. What kept people inside those jail cells? (Pause.) Yes, bars! Looks like they re missing from this picture. I want you to use this cool black tape I have to place bars over your jail cell. I can help you if you need it. After the Activity: Way to go, friends. I love this true Bible Truth about Paul and Silas. Even inside their prison cell behind those bars they chose to sing and praise God. They chose to tell the guard all about Jesus, too. And you know what? If Paul and Silas could do it, with God s help, we can too. Who can tell others about Jesus? [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus.

7 7 Jail with Chairs Live for God Application Activity Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: 5-6 chairs Before the Activity: Arrange the chairs in a circle. Leave an opening to allow the children to be able to enter and exit the circle. During the Activity: Encourage the children to run into the circle and pretend it is a jail. When they are inside the jail, ask them to say the Bottom Line. Then encourage them to run back out of the jail. Repeat several times. Before the Activity: I made a jail out of chairs! (Point.) During the Activity: Let s run into the jail and say our Bottom Line. Do you remember what it is? (Pause.) You got it! [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus! After the Activity: Great job! We can tell others about Jesus even when it is hard just like the guys in our Truth today. Who can tell others about Jesus? [Bottom Line] I can tell others about Jesus! Get Ready to Dismiss
