Thanksgiving Litany Let us join together in prayer and give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. God thank you for harvests of plenty, Small seeds multiplying to feed many, Trees blossoming into abundant fruit, sweet tomatoes ripening on the vine. God thank you for harvests overflowing, Enough for our own needs and an abundance to share, Enough to feed the hungry and provide for the destitute, Enough to reach out with generosity and care. God thank you for seeds planted in our hearts, Seeds of righteousness yielding goodness and mercy, Seeds of love yielding justice and peace, Seeds of compassion yielding healing and renewal. God thank you for the bread of heaven, Christ our Saviour planted in our lives, Christ our redeemer growing in our hearts, Christ your Son making us one with you. God thank you for the gift of life, like water poured out on thirsty ground, Spring and autumn rains that revive and bring life, A river that flows from your heart and out into the world you love. FEEDING THE TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY Our church has once again been asked to host the Diocesan Synod on Saturday, November 4 th. There are plenty of challenges that come with this honour, not the least of which is to feed lunch to approximately 280 people. We hope to draw on our parishioners for help so if you could volunteer for any of the following jobs we will be able to pull this off with grace and finesse yet again. Sign-up sheets are at the Charlotte Street Entrance. We already have volunteers to put up tables and chairs. --Contributions of food --Setting tables --Help making Sandwiches --Clean-up crew --Help serving the meal If you have any questions see the Rector or Sel Perry. GREATER CHAPTER MEETING The Greater Chapter Meeting for our Wardens, Synod Delegates and Substitutes will be held at St. Margaret s Church on Wednesday, October 11 at 7 pm. Thank you to those members of our Parish who have volunteered to serve us in this way as we prepare for the Diocesan Synod on November 4 th. VESTRY UPDATE --there was a very positive response to our Chapel Tour Guide Year End Review presented by Carol Blacklock. We were blessed by an excellent Tour Guide in Ruth Savidge and she reported that we had 251 visitors and she gave tours to 166 of them. Visitors were from as far away as Scotland, Channel Islands, the U.S. and many of our provinces. Many had a history with the chapel and were eager to share their memories. Donations collected in our Chapel Donation Box have been given to the Chapel Restoration Fund. The Vestry wishes to extend our gratitude to Carol and all who worked to clean and prepare the Chapel for the summer season as well as those who helped compile the historical account we have been able to put together. --A letter of thanks will be sent to Harvey Studio and Joy of Framing for the special care taken to restore the Framed War Memorial Honour Rolls which are now hung outside the office door. The cost was less than expected and the results exceeded expectations. --the elevator cylinder is projected to be completed at the manufacturers on or around September 27. (Further update as of Friday morning they had not yet been delivered a full week behind schedule) -Vestry will look into the purchase of a Defibrillator -Lunch Out at Fredericton High School will be planned after Thanksgiving -- Mission Beyond: 31 visits to our Pantry so far this month (update 53) ; 13 Food Bank deliveries were distributed this month; various families have also been helped with gift cards, financial assistance and drives to appointments --Mission Within: Sunday School will be offered for those who are not confirmed and an after-church Middle and High School Program will be offered by the Rector starting after Thanksgiving. There is a Schedule for the Youth Group for the Fall. Bishop Bill will be delivering a set of lectures on October on the Lord s Prayer; Ladies Advent Morning Out is in the planning stages; new Sunday evening service will begin October 14 --Finance: With 67% of the year completed at the end of August our income and expenditures appear to be on target. This of course includes the monthly withdraw from our investment capital. --Building and Grounds: Masonry repairs in chapel completed and ramp stained; Outside landscaping/tree cutting completed; Needle dispensers in place; Heat distributing pump replaced; Cracked glass in breezeway replaced; Fire escape door painted; New high-rise toilets installed; Adult Learning Classroom floor stripped and waxed. The water fountain outside the gym will be repaired.
5 Thanksgiving Sunday Collect O most merciful Father, we humbly thank you for all thy gifts so freely bestowed upon us; for life and health and safety; for power to work and leisure to rest; for all that is beautiful in creation and in the lives of all people; but above all we thank you for our spiritual mercies in Christ Jesus our Lord; who with thee and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen Epistle 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 6 Gospel Luke 17:11-19 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, Jesus, Master, have pity on us! When he saw them, he said, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked him and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner? Then he said to him, Rise and go; your faith has made you well.
