We wait with the JOY of knowing God, his creation and the comfort, strength and abiding love he offers to those who live in sorrow. As we light our third candle, may it be a sign of the joy that God desires for all his people. Joy is a song that welcomes the dawn Telling the world that the Saviour is born. When God is a child, there s joy in our song. The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong And none shall be afraid. 3 PARISH NEWS NEW RELEASE-GREAT GIFT IDEA Bishop Bill s new book Pray Reflections on the Lord s Prayer will be available this Sunday after church at the Charlotte Street entrance. The price is $10. SYMPATHY Our sympathy is extended to Barb Forbes and her family on the loss of her brother-in-law Earl Gilliss. We pray that she may be granted eternal rest and that her family may find comfort and peace in the knowledge and love of God. LADIES ADVENT COFFEE PARTY Approximately 35 women enjoyed a lovely morning on December 9 in the Lounge. Thanks to our Mission Within Committee who organized the event, Joanne Winterford and Garth Maxwell who provided the musical entertainment, Karen Balloch-Tremblay who provided a special take-home Christmas Craft and all the ladies who baked the delicious cakes. It was a great time of fellowship and laughter - an Advent break in the midst of the Christmas rush. CHURCH ENVELOPES Your offering envelopes for 2018 are ready for pickup at the Westmorland Street entrance. If you have any changes in your address, want to switch from envelopes to e offering or you are new to the Parish and need envelopes for the first time please speak to Jessica in the church office by calling OUR SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS Once again we gather for our service of Lessons and Carols. It is a tradition which blesses all of us as we begin the last week before Christmas. Alice, our Organist andr Choir Director has worked hard with our choir to prepare for this day, and for the Christmas Season. We extend our thanks to them for the many hours of rehearsals so that we may celebrate the Christmas story through word and song. YOUTH GROUP PROGRESSIVE DINNER Thank you to the parents who provided food for our Youth Group`s Progressive Dinner this past Friday. It was an evening enjoyed by all. COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS DINNER Saturday evening the Parish hosted their Annual Christmas Dinner for the neighbourhood. There was a lot of turkey to cook and potatoes to peel but with everyone pitching in for a good cause it turns out to be one of the best Christmas presents ever for the workers and the guests. Thanks to all who contributed in any way to this wonderful gift. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS & MEMORIALS If you would like to place flowers in the church or place a memorial in memory of a loved one this Christmas Season please let the office know by Wednesday, December 20. 4 Third Sunday of Advent Collect God of power and mercy, you call us once again to celebrate the coming of your Son. Remove those things which hinder love of you, that when he comes, he may find us waiting in awe and wonder for him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Epistle 1 Thessalonians 5:3-9 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. 5 Gospel John 1:6-8, There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. Now this was John s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, I am not the Messiah. They asked him, Then who are you? Are you Elijah? He said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? He answered, No. Finally they said, Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself? John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, Make straight the way for the Lord. Now the Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet? I baptize with water, John replied, but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.
