8 From Your Youth Assistants Hello Everyone! I have some exciting news about Wednesday Night Worship! This year we are trying to get everyone involved in the planning of Wednesday Night worship. Both the High School and Jr. High will be responsible for the activities occurring in a specific Wednesday sometime this year. We ll be planning and participating in skits, film making, prayer and other fun activities that allow us to worship the Lord. If anyone has any ideas about WNW or is very interested in planning certain aspects of it, contact Pastor Rick. Also, save your ideas because your time to plan may be approaching any minute. -Melanie 8

10 Fall is in the Air! Hey everybody! With the coming of fall, there is always the symbolism of the harvest and then the rest of winter. Coming this month is the partnership of Bethel and the ELCA (see page 11) as we work and pray to define the new ministry at the property formerly know as Redeemer Lutheran. One of the cool things about that place is that it s only a quarter mile from De Anza College. Now, the primary intent is to develop a Chinese ministry, but that also includes the college student population. I want you to start brainstorming and praying for how God will use YOU to realize this new ministry. We ll have plenty of time to figure this out together. In the mean time, come join us for our workday on Wednesday, October 25th at 3:30pm. Peace, Tom Hoegel Our is: thbigdog@earthlink.net Give me a call: The House is Bethel s ministry to the post Sr High / College age Community. To accomplish the mission of The House. Key components shall be Worship, Bible Study, Service and Fellowship. Come check it out! 10
11 TOM'S PAGE Time to Stretch! I hope by now you ve heard about the exciting ministry opportunity for Bethel in West Cupertino: The c o n g regation formerly know as Redeemer (thanks Prince) has dwindled in size to the point where they felt it was time to honor and cel - ebrate their ministry of the past 42 years and move on so new things can happen. I believe this to be a bold, coura - geous, and spirit-filled move. We definitely want to keep that commu - nity in prayer as they find new places to worship and belong. As Redeemer Workday Wednesday, October 3:30 pm with most things when they die, there is often a transition to new life: The ELCA has suggested a partner - ship with Bethel that would bring an Asian Pastor onto our staff, it would have us manage the old Redeemer sight, and allow us to vision what ministry might look like in the future. Kind of sounds nice, doesn t it? While this is venture has so many positive aspects, it will also require lots of work: The easy stuff will include painting, weeding, and other physical muscle stretching. I think the hard part is truly embracing another culture. And for all you High School students, I know embracing the Asian culture is a tough one. Many jokes are made about bad driving, raising GPA s to a point that messes with your college applica - tions, all work and no fun, language elitism, etc, etc, etc. If we are to Love Like Jesus, we must learn to lay down our arms, erase boundaries, and truly open our hearts to new relationships that God gives us. We will spend a good chunk of time over the next year exploring these issues and praying that God give all of us the peace and welcoming spirit to embrace the new face of Bethel. In the mean time, come help clean the property up on Wednesday, October 25th. We ll meet at 3:30pm, do a bunch of work and then eat dinner and talk a bit about this new partnership. What an exciting time for Bethel. We need our youth to lead the way in showing the rest of the congregation how to be accepting. It s gonna be cool! 11
