6 Recently, The Foundry Publishing (formerly Nazarene Publishing House) launched a new website in support of our rebranding effort. The FoundryPublishing.com will be the online e-commerce site for the brand and host for The Foundry Community blog. The website release is one of the final steps in the rebranding of NPH. The process of rebranding NPH began two years ago and was first introduced at the 2017 General Assembly. This new brand will allow us to expand our market reach in order to impact a broader audience with the Wesleyan-Holiness message, according to CEO Mark D. Brown. Rebranding a 105-year-old-institution was no easy task, said Brown. The process of making the decision to do business as The Foundry Publishing was bathed in prayer over a two-year period. Ultimately, our vision for the ministry of The Foundry Publishing is to take the Wesleyan-Holiness message to the world. The Foundry name was chosen because it hearkens back to John Wesley s first chapel, The Foundry Church, established in 1739 in London. The Foundry Church was the cradle of a new holiness theology as Wesley led congregants in a commitment to embrace justice and compassion as central to the gospel of Christ. NPH began in 1912 with a mission to share a belief in holy living. For over a century, NPH provided resources for churches that relay this missional message. We are leaning into our rich holiness heritage to inform our strategic plan, Brown said. We believe The Foundry is a powerful metaphor that keeps us anchored in our past and yet propels us into the future. Moving forward, The Foundry Publishing will focus on theology, spiritual formation, pastoral resources, and youth and children s ministry. For use in Spring 2018, The Foundry Publishing released a brand new suite of Adult Sunday School curriculum. In Fall 2018, a new youth and young adult curriculum, Faith for Life will be released. New Foundry Publishing releases include Understanding Your Muslim Neighbor, Edison Churches, Whatever Happened to Evangelicalism?, the recent church-wide initiative for Advent, Long-Expected Jesus, and the downloadable pastor s resource for Lent 2018, Experiencing Lent. With this rebrand comes the introduction of a new children s imprint, The Foundry Kids, creating ministry resources for children and families.

11 Matt Hastings SDMI Chair Taj Mahal Trash Many of my friends are participating in a fast during the Lenten season. This is a time where we intentionally resist and reject the pacifiers in our lives. What this means is getting rid of the stuff that hinders our relationship with God. I was reading an article on the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a beautiful structure in India. It s essentially a mausoleum. Shah Jahan, who ruled the Mughal Empire for 30 years, built it to honor his wife after her death in I m pretty sure you ve probably seen a postcard, or a picture, of this huge structure. It s ornate and luxurious but behind it lies a trash heap, filled with garbage and waste, that most pictures do not capture. It s a sea of trash that is hidden. I thought about how this might parallel many people s lives. Things might be beautiful at first glance, but the picture perfect life is an illusion; many people are struggling inside. I don t want to live a facade life. You know what I mean? The face that everyone sees is great and has it all together but you re dying on the inside. Living in community, with friends who build you up, cultivates a spirit of honesty and openness. This is one of the functions of the church. So be real, honest and share openly with your friends, so you can grow. Growth means walking around the back of the Taj Mahal and cleaning up the mess...and you can t do that alone. You need God and your friends and an open heart. So, who is ready to grab a trusted friend and a garbage bag? Matt Hastings So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to - the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy. Ephesians 4:22-24 (GNT)

22 For Safety s Sake East Tennessee Nazarene Youth International Our District NYI Council and Ministry Team are always working to improve how we do things with safety for our Students and Leaders being a primary concern when planning any event. One of the most important factors for planning the safest events possible is knowing in advance how many students will be participating. When you don t know how many students are coming there is no way to make sure you have adequate adult leadership, supervision, counselors, staff, etc. Unfortunately we have fallen into a couple of bad habits that work against planning the safest events possible. First we don t always have adequate adult leadership at certain District events. Teen Camp is the primary event where this is an issue. For most every other event we may attend as a District, but each Local Church has the mind set that it s local leaders are responsible for their local students. This is the case with TNT, Explosion Sports & Talent, Fall Retreat, Mission Trips, and even NYC. Teen Camp is the only major District Event where it is not always clear who the person is who is responsible for each teen in attendance. The second issue is that by allowing late and even delinquent registrations for events we have fostered an atmosphere that makes it extremely difficult to plan for adequate leadership and safety. At our District NYI Council meeting held August 22, 2015 it was decided that we needed to take action to implement solutions to these two issues. Our plan to make sure each student has a person responsible is fairly simple. We want you to work with your Mission Area Churches to make sure that every student you send to an event has a Responsible Adult, that they know who that Adult is and that the student understands that Adult is the primary leader they will answer to at the event. We understand that not every Church can provide a leader for the duration of a week at Camp, though even if you can attend part of the week it is helpful! However, every Church CAN reach out to its Mission Area neighbor Churches and work out a system for having a Responsible Adult for each student. Our registration forms will now have a space for Responsible Adult. This will be a requirement. If you don t have a leader who will be attending from your Church we need you to work with other Mission Area leaders to assign someone who will take the role of responsibility with your students. Ideally we need 1 Adult leader for every 10 Students in attendance. Our plan is to waive Camp registration fees for all adults who attend as counselors and stay in the dorms as dorm leaders. We must improve in this area, and this plan provides a way for that without requiring every Church to send adult leaders. Our plan to solve the issue of late and delinquent registrations is also fairly simple. From now on with ALL East Tennessee District NYI events beginning with EXPLOSION 2015 there will be a 3 Tier Registration Fee system. The advertised price for EXPLOSION is $40 per participant. If you simply complete all forms and send them with your payment by the Postmark By date that will appear on your form, then you will be able to take a $25 per participant discount making your registration fee per student now only $15. If you miss the Postmark By deadline up to the day before the event, you pay the advertised price of $40 per participant. If you show up the day of the event and have still not registered your group you will still be eligible, but you will pay the late registration price of $65 per participant. So there will be an advertised price, a discounted price that is $25 less and a late price that is $25 more than the advertised price. I know this will seem exorbitant to some, but you are not the ones trying to plan and properly staff the safest possible events for our students. This decision is not made lightly. We have begged and pleaded with many groups over the years to please get their forms in on time to no avail. We often pay more attention when our budget or purse strings are affected, so that is why we ve arrived at this system. These will be hard and fast rules. Make the Postmark By date and receive the discount; miss it by a day and you do not. We also believe that the late price is still better than just having a cut off and not allowing anyone to register past that date. We try our best to work with everyone. We are merely asking for the same courtesy in return. It is the Council s wish that these measures weren t necessary, but they are. Thank you for understanding that the safety of our students and the events they attend must come first. If you have any questions or concerns don t hesitate to contact me personally at info@etnyi.org. Thank you! BJ Miller East Tennessee NYI District President
23 Pastor Ryan is working on Old School Youth Camp, June 18-22, 2018 and the Old School trend will continue into August! Let me explain. Back in 2001 the ET NYI made a decision to do away with an event in early August to pave the way for a new event NYImPASSion. We had some great times in August through the years until the time came for NYImPASSion to be updated. I'm very pleased to announce the event that was done away with back in 2001 IS COMING BACK! Youth-A-Rama! I know some of you are saying, "What is that?" Let me tell you it was a great event that brought ET NYI together for a day of community and fellowship in a cheap, non-threatening way and Youth-A- Rama is back! Mark your calendar NOW for August 4, Let me briefly give you some details concerning this event. It will be held on August 4 at the Cumberland Co. State Park in Crossville, TN 8:00 AM CST. Competition will begin at 9:30 AM CST. We already have reservations for the large pavilion where we will not only fellowship together but eat lunch and enjoy an inspiring word of testimony. The cost is minimal! $2.00 per person to help offset expense of the pavilion rental, etc. or $7.00 which would include a t-shirt. Throughout the morning and early afternoon we will divide up into teams and play a round robin tournament in sports such as: basketball, softball, tug-o-war, ultimate frisbee, etc. Not into sports? No problem! Sit back and enjoy a great day with friends from across the district. Each church will be responsible to bring their own lunches. Once the event concludes each church will be able to stay longer and enjoy activities that the park offers. Check our their website for more details at Youth-A-Rama...August 4, DON'T let your local NYI miss out on this GREAT event! If you have questions let me know. More details with deadlines (t-shirts primarily) will come at a later date. Thanks! "Don't give up on God when you need Him the most!"
