1 This last Saturday I was standing at a graveside where I was conducting the burial service for Madison Briner, the infant daughter of Dalton Matthew Briner and Marisa Ann Bower. It was a little windy, a little sprinkle was coming down, and the people there were crying or looking stoically on at the proceedings. At the same time as this solemn event was occurring I noticed something else. The leaves were turning color and beginning to fall to the ground. I saw that life continues to go on, even in loss. It always seems to take me a couple of days after a funeral to gather my thoughts together and move ahead. This has been no different. Non-Profit Organization U.S. Postage Paid Permit #45 Savannah, MO I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened. Ephesians 1:18 Connecting Building Sharing Volume 55 October 19, 2016 Issue 20 OUR MISSION: As I begin to gather my thoughts, I also begin to think of scripture. The great passage from Ecclesiastes pops into my head and I think the inevitability of change. No matter what we do or hope for, things change. Sometimes it feels as if things change too fast and we have no constants. It is a bit overwhelming. But another passage also comes to mind. It is from the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10, verses 13-16, "Then they brought Little children to him, so he could put his hands on them, and pray for them: and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, he was unhappy with the disciples and said unto them, Be good to the little children, and don t keep them from me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Truly I say unto you, Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall not enter heaven. And he took the children up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. I used that scripture at the service. It has become an anchor for me in a very important way. It demonstrates some constants in the life of the believer. It shows an unchanging love of God for His people. He has, does, and always will desire to hold in the midst of life. He is never too busy and He is always welcoming. May we take the time to be as He was, is and always will be: ready to bring others to Him and show them His love. Walk with Him in all that you do, let His love show in your caring and actions. BRANSON TRIP It was great!!!! On Thursday September 28th, the Top of the Hill senior adults boarded the FBC bus with driver Darin Sloan headed for three days of fun and adventure in Branson, Missouri. Our trip coordinator, Shirley Steiner, with more than twenty years of experience managing such outings, out-did herself with the organization of this trip. Accompanied by her daughter Connie Washburn, who flew in from California especially to join us, led our group of twenty-one during the five hour drive with games and songs. Once in Branson and after a lunch stop, we visited Sight and Sound Theater for a back stage tour of the set of Moses, then settled into our seats for the two and a half hour play. Anyone who has not seen the backstage tour and the play could not imagine the time and work demanded in the production of this play. After the play, it was time for supper and some quick shopping as we awaited seating in the restaurant, then off to our motel where a wonderful bedtime snack, that included homemade cobbler and ice cream, was provided. Friday morning we feasted at the motel breakfast bar included in our rooms. Afterward we headed to Hollywood for miniature golf, a wax museum and more. Lunch and shopping followed, then we went on the train ride into Arkansas and back. Beautiful scenery! That evening we enjoyed the music of the Magnificent Seven, a Christian family music production. Saturday after breakfast and checking out of the motel, we were off for shopping then headed home with a stop at the Osceola Cheese Place and supper at a wonderful barbeque restaurant in Clinton. It was such a fun trip; I m wondering what Shirley is planning for us next, maybe a Christmas trip of some sort. I can t wait. Carol Alvarez
