This is an annual week-long celebration dedicated to vocations in priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations. Please ask Our Lord for more dedicated, holy priests, deacons and consecrated men and women: May they be inspired by Jesus Christ, supported by our faith community, and respond generously to God s gift of a vocation." Church fact: NVAW began in 1976 when the U. S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW. In 1997, this celebration was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November. 4

5 Observing All Souls Day Every year on November 2, the Catholic Church observes the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day). This is a time when we remember all who have died and commend their souls to God. It also reminds us that we all will face death someday, yet hope that by God s grace, we will be welcomed before the face of the Lord. This can be a motivation to reflect on the present direction of our lives and how we are using our time in this world. It heightens awareness of the preciousness of our lives. When we reflect, for even just a moment, how precious we are to God, it changes our perspective on how we live out each day and use our time. With the heightened awareness of the gift of time we have in this world, we can also be mindful of those who are near death, such as the terminally ill and the elderly. We can be the face of God s love to others by caring for their needs, assuring them of the healing and comfort of God s mercy, and witnessing to the sacredness of their lives. As we begin the month of November and observe All Souls Day, let us use this opportunity to remember those who have died and commend their souls to God. Let us reflect on the remaining time we have in our lives to focus on what truly matters - with our loved ones, those we know, and those we may encounter who are suffering, alone or broken in any way. Let us resolve to help everyone we meet, whether man, woman, or child, to understand how precious they are in God s eyes. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. ~ The above are excerpts from Precious in God's Eyes written by Kimberly Baker, Programs and Projects Coordinator for the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, USCCB. Remembrance Tree Ceremony to be Held on All Souls Day The Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul Regional seminary will host the 6 th Annual Remembrance Tree Ceremony on Monday, November 2. Begun on the First Sunday of Advent and concluding on February 2, 2016, the Year of Consecrated Life is a time for all to celebrate: it is a renewal for men and women in consecrated life and a time of thanksgiving among the faithful for the men and women in the Diocese of Palm Beach who live a consecrated life. The theme for the Year of Consecrated Life is "Wake Up the World." In addition to praying the Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is encouraging the faithful to spend these months promoting "Days with Religious" initiatives and resources to help families learn about the consecrated life of religious men and women. 19 Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Guided by this truth, Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach accepts the remains of those who have no family or friends to bury them the loveless, the homeless, and the abandoned stillborns who possess inherent dignity because they are made in the image of God. Please consider volunteering to attend these charitable services which occur periodically throughout the year. If you would like to be added to our charitable committal service notification list, please contact Christina: christina@ourqueen.org Learn More About Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery As Catholics, We Respect Life From Conception Until Natural Death, However.not all Catholics are aware of: The respect that must be given to the human body after death Why this respect is due And how we show this respect The Catholic Church s teaching in this area is in logical agreement with the Church s teaching on life issues. Learn more about this teaching by contacting Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery and arranging for a representative to speak to your parish or ministry, either at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery or at a location you prefer. Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery Month s Mind Requiem Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery On the second Saturday of each month Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery celebrates the Month s Mind Requiem Mass. This Mass takes place 10 a.m. 11 a.m. in the cemetery s outdoor chapel. Prayers during this Requiem Mass are offered for those who have been laid to rest during the previous month, all of the deceased at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, and all of the holy souls in purgatory. All of the faithful are welcome and encouraged to attend. The tradition of the Month s Mind Requiem dates back to the fifteenth century as a feast of prayerful remembrance for departed souls on or about the thirtieth day of their passing. Though it is still common in Ireland and England, few parishes in the United States continue the custom today. Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery is located exactly 1-mile west of State Road 7 (US-441) and 3-miles west of the Florida Turnpike at Southern Boulevard, in Royal Palm Beach.
