If you haven't been following any Catholic news agencies (get the CNA app on line), you may not be aware that five years ago our United States bishops initiated the Fortnight for Freedom campaign that runs from June 21 to July 4 each year. The purpose is to call upon Catholics to participate in a pledge to religious liberty and an appeal for the inclusion of a "conscience clause" for religious institutions and religious faithful to practice according to the moral tenets of one's religious faith. It comes at a perfect time considering that this extended weekend our nation celebrates our independence and freedom. In our pursuit of such inalienable rights, please pray that we do not forget that Christians must also boldly celebrate that the only true freedom is not from some declaration or legislation or human power or authority. True freedom is only from Jesus Christ, and the choices we freely make must lead us closer to Him or it is not true freedom at all. The 4th of July is a day for us to celebrate our great nation and to remember the religious freedoms that we enjoy as citizens and residents of America must always lift up religious freedom. To help facilitate our celebration please join us Monday, July 4th (the feast of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati), at our 9:30 a.m. Mass (it will be the only Mass of the day no Eucharistic Adoration will be available). Please consider starting your day in true freedom by choosing to give thanks at Mass also, we will be collecting to restock our St. Vincent de Paul pantry. Next weekend at the 5:00 p.m. Mass we will be offering a special gift of freedom in the Sacrament of Anointing for those who are sick or in need of healing. Please come through the main entrance before Mass begins for someone to help. During the Mass, Fr. Thomas and I will be coming to you if you are in need. I promised last weekend that we are happy to announce our parish will be subscribing to an exciting new online Catholic platform: formed.org. Once we purchase the annual resource, all parishioners will be able to obtain a passcode from us so you can have: 24/7 access to the truth, beauty, and meaning of the Catholic Faith anytime, anywhere. Informative and inspiring teaching and movies from renowned speakers Dr. Scott Hahn, Dr. Edward Sri, Bishop Robert Barron and many more. You can use it by yourself or family, or in Adult Faith Formation, Marriage Preparation and Enrichment, Scripture Study, RCIA...anyway to help evangelize our Catholic faith. Pax, Fr. Bline

If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:14-15 (CCC #1526) Remember that the troubled heart is lightened through the gift of the sacraments. Please prayerfully consider it. If you or your family would like to pray with the Crucifix for vocations to the priesthood, religious life, married or single life, please call the rectory. We will place your name on the list so the Crucifix can be presented to you during Mass on a given weekend or picked up at another convenient time in the sacristy or parish office. Tim and Jeannette Eberhardt received the Vocation Crucifix this weekend. Mercy Beach: Waves of Mercy, an Ocean of Love Please get your registration forms in as soon as possible, so we will know how many supplies to order. Forms are available in the back of the bulletin, the Church foyer under the bulletin board, and on the parish website Fortnight for Freedom Join with the United States Bishops and Catholics throughout the country until tomorrow July 4, in praying for Religious Freedom. The prayer began on June 21, the vigil of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, two martyrs who stood up for the right to live their conscience. Visit for more information. Happy Saint Thomas Day!

3 Mercy: A Light in the Darkness In today s Gospel, Jesus sends His disciples into the world to impart God s message of peace and that the reign of God is at hand. He said, I am sending you as lambs in the midst of wolves. By being bearers of His Grace, they were able to expel demons and bring blessings on those who welcomed them In our present world, we witness much pain and suffering brought on by hatred and the evil. Yet we are called by our Holy Father Pope Francis to also go out and be living witnesses of our Lord Jesus to the world that desperately needs Him. We do this by showing them He lives in and through us by our example for caring for others and showing God s mercy to those who need mercy and always, His Peace. So often we hear and see so much pain and sorrow that we can sometimes wonder why these evil things happen. We must be the light that shines through the darkness of evil. We must be the hands that help, the feet that carry to the Lord, and the voice of the Lord to those troubled souls that need the Light of Christ and His mercy the most. Each week during this Year of Mercy, look for a new message from our Social Action Commission on ways that we can bring this Year of Mercy closer to our hearts. If you have any feedback from any week, whether it be a testimonial to that week s message, or an idea for an upcoming week, please those ideas to mhuggins46@gmail.com Calling all Parishioners who have Antique or Historical Cars! Car Show during the Parish Picnic September 11, :00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are limited to 20 cars first come first serve! Remember, there is always a great need for blood. Please take the time to give this special gift of life ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Fourth of July Collection The St. Vincent de Paul Society at our parish is in need of donations to re-stock our food pantry and for funds to help those in need. For the 9:30 a.m. tomorrow s Mass on Independence Day, we are asking that you consider bringing the following items: Pasta and pasta sauces, sloppy joe sauce, rice, canned fruit, canned chicken, canned tuna, tuna or hamburger helper, peanut butter, jelly, cold cereals, canned soup, toilet paper and paper towels. At this time we have an abundance of canned vegetables so keep that in mind when doing your shopping. In addition, St. Vincent de Paul could also use monetary donations to assist people, and there will be a collection taken up as we would normally do on a Sunday Mass. If you ll be making a monetary donation, please make your check payable to St. Vincent de Paul. If you forget to bring money or are not going to Mass on the Fourth of July, you can always make a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul by using the Poor Box located in the Narthex by the left exit doors. This is one great way our parish helps the poor in our community so all donations are greatly appreciated.
