5 PoP Communicator Page 5 of 12 October 3, 2015 Prince of Peace Lutheran School Phase II ~ Front Playground "Before we start designing children's environments, it's helpful to first remember the places and spaces of our own childhoods. By going back in time and standing in our own little shoes, we are able to see the world as a child again. We remember how things looked, how they felt, how they smelled and even tasted. The world we inhabited was filled with sensory experiences and it was in that world be it a city street, a country farm, or a suburban backyard where we made our games, our stories, and ourselves." Excerpt from ExchangeEveryDay Prince of Peace Lutheran School is excited to begin Phase II of our Front Playground Project. Last spring we began a campaign to enhance our Front Playground with a more natural playscape area for children. Phase I included the dry creek bed, the bridge, the large rocks and plantings. We received a generous grant from the Circuit 9 Lutheran Mission Endowment Fund and with donations from school and church families, we were able to construct this phase of the project before school started in September. We would like to begin Phase II this fall with a pathway coming off the bridge, continuing into the Kindergarten Garden and circling back towards our center sidewalk. The children will be able to enjoy it before the winter weather sets in. Then in the spring, we would add plantings and more stumps to give a woodsier pathway feel. At this time, we need to raise only $ to begin Phase II! To make a donation, please write a check to Prince of Peace Lutheran School (POPLS) and write playground in the memo. Please mail or bring your check to the Church or School Office. Your prayers will also be greatly appreciated throughout this project. Thank you so much for your help! Blessings, Cindy Deatherage, Principal Cindy.deatherage@poplc.org Upcoming Events for 20s/30s Group Fridays, 7pm Join us on Friday nights at 7 p.m. for study/social opportunities! We are currently studying spiritual gifts and looking for ways we can uniquely serve Christ. We also like to mix in socials. Locations vary weekly. Is this training for you? Good questions to ask yourself: - Am I a good listener? - Do people tend to confide in me? - Do I feel God is calling me to explore something different? - Do people often say that I encourage them? The first step in becoming a client advocate counselor is to attend this training. The training will offer you a chance to explore this special ministry niche to discover whether it suits you. Your attendance does not, in any way, obligate you to volunteer with Sanctity of Life. What comes next if you want to volunteer with us? After this initial training there is a period of practical learning. You will view educational videos, sit in with experienced counselors to observe counselor/client interaction, and complete assorted training modules to help you develop the needed skills.
